WWAARRNNIINNGG::
When using electrical products, basic cautions should always be followed, including the following:

9. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than the other. A grounding type plug has two blades and a third grounding plug. The wide blade or third prong is provided for your safety. If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet.
10. Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched, particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point they exit from the apparatus.
11. Note for UK only: If the colors of the wires in the mains lead of this unit do not correspond with the terminals in your plug‚ proceed as follows:
a) The wire that is colored green and yellow must be connected to the terminal that is marked by the letter E‚ the earth symbol‚ colored green or colored green and yellow.
b) The wire that is colored blue must be connected to the terminal that is marked with the letter N or the color black. c) The wire that is colored brown must be connected to the terminal that is marked with the letter L or the color red.
12. Only use attachments/accessories provided by the manufacturer.
13. Use only with a cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table specified by the manufacturer, or sold with the apparatus. When a cart is used, use caution when moving the cart/apparatus combination to avoid injury from tip-over.
14. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time.
15. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.

18. Exposure to extremely high noise levels may cause a permanent hearing loss. Individuals vary considerably in suscep­tibility to noise-induced hearing loss, but nearly everyone will lose some hearing if exposed to sufficiently intense noise for a sufficient time. According to OSHA, any exposure in excess of the above permissible limits could result in some hearing loss. Ear plugs or protectors to the ear canals or over the ears must be worn when operating this amplification system in order to prevent a permanent hearing loss, if exposure is in excess of the limits as set forth above. To ensure against potentially dangerous exposure to high sound pressure levels, it is recommended that all persons exposed to equipment capable of producing high sound pressure levels such as this amplification system be protected by hearing protectors while this unit is in operation.

Electronic Crossover
You’ll be pleasantly surprised with all the new features loaded in the VSXII. Whether you’re an experienced user or not‚ you’ll find this crossover easy to use and understand. The unit is visually designed using color coding to denote functionality. Easy to set up and use‚ the VSXII is a single rack space‚ 2-way stereo/3-way mono crossover with an independent mono—100 Hz subwoofer output. With gain control‚ low- and high-frequency level controls‚ adjustable crossover control (60 Hz–6 kHz @ 24 dB per octave), 1/4" and XLR in/out and a 40 Hz LCF (24 dB per octave)‚ this is one of the most versatile crossovers in the industry.

Used to optimize the interface gain between the VSX II Channel 1 and the associated mixer. Control range is
-20 dB to +20 dB with Unity gain at center (detent) position. In mono MODE Gain 1 is the only channel gain control.
OOppeerraattiioonn NNoottee
The default (0dB) setting (center detent on all controls) should be considered normal for many applications. However, adjustments in the - (negative) direction will reduce system noise. Settings in the + (positive) direction will improve headroom with mixers having output capability less than +22 dBu, at the expense of added system noise.
In applications requiring low system noise, such as studios, churches, etc., and where headroom is not critical, the noise level can be improved by operating the VSXII gain levels below 0 dB. Example: A setting of -6 dB will reduce system noise by 6 dB. At the same time, system headroom will have been reduced by 6 dB. Such “compromises” should be considered normal in noise sensitive applications.
System headroom can be substantially increased with the VSXII in applications where the mixer output is less than +22 dBu. To accomplish this, the optimum gain setting will usually be the difference between the VSXII output rating (+22 dBu) and the mixer output rating. Example: If the mixer output rating is +14 dBu, the VSXII gain should be set at +8 dB (22–14 = +8 dB). If the mixer output rating were 22 dBu, the correct setting would be 0dB. For mixers with output capability at +22 dBu or higher, gain settings above 0 dB will not improve headroom but will increase system noise.

The VSXII two outputs per channel are derived from a fourth-order, Linkwitz/Riley, state variable filter (24 dB per octave slope). Each filter is independent, with the crossover frequency selected via a recessed knob, rotary control, to prevent accidental changing of the critical crossover frequency. Control range is from 60 Hz to 6 kHz and determines the -6 dB crossover point between the low- and high-frequency bands within the channel. In mono MODE this control determines the crossover point between the LOW and MID frequency bands.

Always check for proper system connections before applying power. Upon initial hook-up, mute all bands and set all the band-pass level controls to minimum (-20 dB) position before applying power; then slowly bring up the various levels to verify proper band-pass connections. An improperly wired system could destroy loudspeakers.

All Inputs and Outputs are electronically balanced (Pin 2 positive). Each Input or Output has three connector options: XLR, 1/4" and 3-pin Euro. When a mono, TS 1/4" phone jack is inserted, this input (or output) becomes unbalanced. Whenever possible‚ balanced connections are preferred.

This is a standard IEC power connector. An AC mains cord having the appropriate AC plug and ratings for the intended operating voltage is included in the carton.
Never break off the ground pin on any equipment. It is provided for your safety. If the outlet used does not have a ground pin, a suitable grounding adapter should be used and the third wire should be grounded properly. To prevent the risk of shock or fire hazard, always be sure that the VSXII crossover and all associated equipment are properly grounded.

Yields only the low frequency signals through a separate, fourth-order low-pass filter with a corner frequency (-3 dB) at 100 Hz and a 24 dB/octave slope. Samples the Channel 1 and Channel 2 signals before the crossover filters in stereo MODE or just Channel 1 signal in mono MODE. The 40 Hz low cut filters affect this output.

When a standard two conductor phone plug is inserted into a TRS jack, the system becomes unbalanced. Such connection should be made only when the associated equipment is in close proximity to the VSXII.
The XLR input and 1/4" input are in parallel. If a two-conductor phone plug is used in the 1/4" jack, both inputs become unbalanced. If a three-conductor phone plug is used to patch to associated equipment which is unbalanced, the entire channel becomes unbalanced.
SSeettuupp PPrroocceedduurreess
To achieve proper system set up and to provide good system performance and reliability, all the system component (loudspeakers’) efficiency rating and crossover frequency values must be determined and used according to the procedure described bellow. Special attention should be paid in mono, single-channel 3-way MODE, so that the LOW-TO-MID crossover frequency control (8) will not be set higher than the MID-TO-HIGH crossover frequency control (25).
Step 1:
The efficiency rating of the low frequency enclosure becomes the “reference efficiency” for the entire system. The level control associated with this band-pass should always be set at 0 dB. Example: A system’s low frequency component has an efficiency rating of 100 dB at 1 W, 1 M, 100 dB is the “reference efficiency” for setup.
Step 2:
For 3-way systems, the MID band level (Channel 2 low) setting will be the difference in efficiency rating between the low and mid components. Example: The system’s mid frequency component efficiency is 99 dB at 1 W, 1 M, 100–99 = +1 dB. The MID band level setting (Channel 2 low) should be +1 dB.
Step 3:
The HIGH band level setting will be the difference in efficiency rating between the low and high components. Example: The system’s high frequency component efficiency is 106 dB at 1 W, 1 M, 100–106 = -6 dB. The HIGH band level setting should be -6 dB.
Step 4:
The crossover frequency adjustment must be correct for the various components in the system. These values are usually, but not necessarily, the cut-off frequencies of the associated loudspeakers. Crossover frequencies are sometimes selected to improve the “power sharing” for a given sound system application. These selections should never be below the cut-off frequency values.
Step 5:
For 2-way or 3-way system, the 40 Hz filter may be activated if desired. This feature protects subwoofers from operating below their cut-off frequencies and preserves headroom.
Step 6:
Adjust the gain control as described in the gain section.
