The manufacturer reserves the right to make any changes to the machi ne described in this manual, at any time, and without prior warning.
This machi ne has been approv ed, under the t erm s of Council Decision 98/482/EC, f or Europewide connection as a single terminal to an analogue Public Switched Telephone System (PSTN) system. However, due to differences between individual PSTNs in the various countries, t he approval does not uncondit ionally guarantee success operati on of every PSTN termination point. If you enc ounter any problems, you should contac t your supplier immediately.
In accordance with directiv e 1999/05/CE, conformity to quality requirements is attested to, by the affix ing of the
mark on the machine.
Network compatibility declaration
This product has been designed and developed to operate in the networks of all European Community countries, and in those of Switzerland and Norway. Full compatibility with the networks of individual countries will depend on specific national software parameters which can be set in the product. If you encounter problems with non EC PSTN networks, contact your national technical support service.
Your attention is drawn to the following conditions that could compromise the conformity attested above as well as the machine's characteristics:
incorrect electrical supply;
incorrect instal lati on, erroneous or i mproper use, or any use that differs from what i s indi cated in
the User Manual supplied with the machine;
replacement of components or original parts using other types, not approved by the manufacturer, or where carried out by unauthorized persons.
ENERGY STAR is a U.S. registered trade mark
WARNING: THIS MACHINE MUST BE EARTHED.
The electrical socket must be near to hand and eas ily accessible. To disconnect the machine from the electrical power supply, unplug it from the supply socket.
IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS
FOR INSTALLATION
Place the fax m achine on a stable, f l at surfac e with no vibrations, to prevent it from falling and causing injury to people or damage to the produc t.
Keep the fax machine dus t free and away from water, steam, or excessive heat. Do not expose it to direct sunlight.
Keep the fax machine away from other electrical or electronic appliances which may generate interference, e.g. radio, telev i sion, et c.
Ensure that no books, documents, or other objects, prevent normal ventilation. Ideally this fax machine should be operated where t he ambient temperature is between 5° C and 35° C, and the rel ative humi dity between 15% and 85%.
Leave enough room in f ront of the out let for t he expul sion of originals and received/copied documents, so that they do not fall on the floor.
CONN EC T IO N TO TH E EL EC TRICAL POW ER SUPPLY
This f ax machi ne is provi ded with a power cable complete wit h a plug with an earth terminal that, for safet y reasons, should not be by-passed. If the wall power socket does not allow t he use of this plug, or if it is not earthed, contact an electrician to modify the installation, so as to comply wi th current standards.
Ensure that the power cabl e is easi ly ac cess ible without being an obstruction where people are walking.
Ensure that the voltage and frequency of your mains power supply c orrespond t o the v olt age and frequency shown on the plat e on the back of the fax m achine.
Do not connect the fax machine to the mains power supply using an adapter or extension cable to which other appli ances are already connec ted: a poor electrical c onnection may result in ov erheating and cause a fire or elec tric shock.
CONNECTIO N TO THE TELEP HO NE LINE
Since the connection of fax machines, answering machines, additional telephones and ot her appliances to t he telephone l ine is subject t o national st andards, pleas e refer to current appl icable regulations in your own c ountry.
INSTAL L ATION AND SETUP P ARAM ETERS
At a nati onal level, t he settings and set-up parameters for each installation vary according to certification requirements or individual us er needs. These s ettings and those indicat ed i n t he manual may not al ways be the s ame. We suggest that you pri nt them out before maki ng any modifications.
MAINTENANCE
Disconnect the fax machine from the mains power supply before cleaning it and use only a damp cloth. Do not use corros iv e subs t ances suc h as s olv ents , alcohol, benzine or abrasive components.
Do NOT introduce foreign matter (li quids included) in the fax machine: accidental contact with live parts may caus e fire or electric s hock.
REPAIRS
Do NOT attempt to repair the f ax machine yourself. By removing the outer casing, you may risk elec tric shock or other injury . Repairs s hould be carried out by qualified tec hnical personnel only.
When replacing components (including accessories) make sure that you use only manufacturer-original spare parts: the use of any other part s may compromise the s afety of the f ax machine and cause fire or electric shock.
Disconnect the fax machine from the mains power supply and contact the qualified technician if any of the foll owi ng condi tions oc cur:
the power cable or pl ug is dam aged or worn;
the outer casing has been damaged;
liquid has ac cidentally been spilt i nto the fax m achine (inc l udi ng rain).
FOR CORRECT USE
Before using your fax machine, read the instructions contained i n this manual caref ully . T his manual should be kept in a s afe place f or future referenc e. This fax machine has al ready been preset for opera-
tion in ac cordance with your count ry's telephone network standards.
If you do not intend t o use the f ax machi ne for a long period of time, you should disconnect it from the power supply to av oid the ris k of damage due to dis turbance or power s urges.
THE HANDSE T
In case of a voltage drop or power failure, it will not be
possible to make or receive telephone calls as the keypad will be disabled. If you m ust abs olutely make a call under these condi-
tions, you m ust an emergency t elephone, approved by the telephone company, which should be connected directl y to the f ax machine.
