Chapter 2 - INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the cash register in a safe, sufficiently-ventilated environment, within easy reach but protected from
unauthorised use and jolts.
2. Load the paper roll as described in the section “LOADING THE RECEIPT PAPER ROLL
” .
3. Calibrate the near-end-of-paper sensor as described in the section “CALIBRATING THE NEAR-END-OF-
PAPER SENSOR”.
4. Turn on the cash register as described in the section “TURNING ON THE CASH REGISTER”
.
Loading the receipt paper roll
The following procedures are necessary when loading the roll of receipt paper for the first time, and subsequently whenever it is replaced. The operator is notified of the need to replace the paper roll by the appearance of one of the following messages on the touch screen:
Near-end-of-paper – Notifies that the roll of thermal paper is almost finished. In this condition the printer continues to function normally, until the thermal paper is completely finished. The timing of this notification can be modified following the instructions in the section “Adjusting the near-end-of-paper sensor”.
End-of-paper (receipt) - Notifies that the roll of thermal paper is completely finished. In this condition the printer blocks.
The "Near-End-of-
Paper” condition may be indicated on the paper by the appearance of a red stripe. To avoid printer blockages or malfunctioning it is important to use paper roll s with coloured edges which indicate when the roll is nearly finished, and with the paper wound around the core without the use of glue and/or tied.
1. Turn off the cash register.
2. Unlatch the paper compartment cover and lift it in the direction shown by the arrow.

4. Lift the printhead and cutter assy and extract the finished receipt roll.
5. Unwind approximately 20 cm of paper from the new roll, then insert the roll into its compartment inside the
printer.
6. Lower the printhead and cutter assy, applying slight pressure to the area until the lever clicks forwards into place (2).

9. Turn on the cash register as described in the section “TURNING ON THE CASH REGISTER
”.
10. Check that the paper feeds through properly by pressing the paper feed key.
Calibrating the near-end-of-paper sensor
When the receipt roll is inserted into the paper compartment for the first time, or when the type of roll is changed,
the near-end-of-paper sensors must be calibrated:
The near-en
d-of-paper sensor is set up at the factory to ensure correct functioning for the most
commonly
-
used paper rolls. If too much or too little paper remains when the near-end-of-paper
condition is notified, you can regulate the sensors.
Regulation
depends on the diameter of the paper roll core. For a core of a given diameter, moving the lever tow ar d s t he rear of th e m a ch in e me a n s t h at no t if ic a ti on will be given later, when l ess p a pe r is left. On th e o th er hand, moving the lever towards the front more paper w ill be left when notification is g iven.
To regulate
the near-end-of-paper sensor, proceed as follows:
1. Turn off the cash register.
2. Unlatch the paper compartment cover as shown in Figure 2- 1 .
3. Remove the paper roll, if present.
Y117850-4
Service Manual 2-3
Page 28
4. Move the gre
en regulation lever (1) towards the front of the cash register to receive earlier notification (i.e. for larger diameter cores). Move the lever towards the rear of the cash register to receive later notification (i.e. for smaller diameter cores).

5. Reinsert the paper roll.
6. Reposition and close the paper compartment cover.
7. Turn on the cash register as described in the section “TURNING ON THE CASH REGISTER
”.
Installation the paper roll adapter
The paper roll adapter is illustrated in the following figure and permits use of 57.5 and 60 mm rolls. The references (1) indicated in the image must be used for orienting the adapter correctly, while the tabs (2) are used to position the adapter in the slots of the paper compartment.

Page 30
If you use a 80 mm roll after having used rolls of sizes 57.5 mm or 60 mm on the printer, it is no longer possible to guarantee that a good quality of printing can be achieved. This is because, when printing, the contrast obtained from the part of the head not used by the smaller rolls, may be uneven.

5. Power on the cash register as described in the section "TURNING ON THE CASH REGISTER" on page 2-6.
Turning on the cash register
1. Ensure that the power unit is connected to the cash register and to a power outlet.
The power cord must be connected to the DC-IN socket at the bottom of the cash register with the flat part of the connector facing downwards. Note that attempting to
force insertion of the connector incorrectly oriented may result in it being damaged. The connector is of bayonet type. To remove the connector, turn the ring nut on the connector and pull it back to release the connector. Do not pull on the cable.
