PRINT PRODUCTIVITY
Evaluating print productivity is not as simple as timing copy jobs. The printing process involves several steps and can be affected by a variety of factors along the way.
The document must first be spooled by the print driver into a PCL or PostScript
®
file. The PCL or PostScript® file is then sent to the printer where it is raster image processed (RIPped) into image data by the device processor. The image data is then sent to the marking engine and output as printed pages.
It is possible to time and compare these factors through the use of careful preparation, conditioning and testing. Following are charts that show printing performance when tested under controlled conditions.
NETWORK PRINTING SYSTEMS
The OKI Printing Solutions B431dn’s rated output speed is up to 38 ppm in monochrome.
The OKI Printing Solutions B431dn’s Rated First-CopyOut Time (FCOT) is as fast as 4.5 seconds.
The OKI Printing Solutions B431dn delivers multiple emulations including the following: PCL® 5e and PCL 6, IBM® ProPrinter® III XL, Epson® FX and PostScript® 3™ drivers.
All of the print drivers offer bi-directional communication with its user-selectable interface for all of the Windows based operating systems.
High print resolutions of up to 1200 x 1200 dpi for enhanced image quality.
The OKI Printing Solutions B431dn has 87 PCL fonts, 136 PostScript fonts, Line Printer and OCR-A/B PCL Bitmap Fonts and handles the following barcodes: UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN/JAN-8, EAN/JAN-13, Interleaved 2 of 5, Code 39, Code 128, EAN/UCC 128, and CODABAR; ZiP+4 PostNet.
Driver supports the following OS’s: Windows® 7/x64, Vista®/Vista x64, XP Home Edition/Professional/x64 Edition, 2008, 2003 Server/x64 Edition, Enterprise Server/ x64 Edition, Data Center Server/x64 Edition, 2000 Workstation/ Professional/ Server/Advanced Server (SP4 or later); Mac® OS X 10.3.9 up to 10.6.2.

PROGRAMMING THE CONTROL PANEL
A control panel’s ease of use or lack thereof can often have a significant effect on user productivity. The harder it is to select frequently used options such as duplexing, document finishing, etc., the more time the user has to spend programming the device and the less productive they are. The OKI Printing Solutions B431dn’s control panel consists of a 16-character X 2 line LCD screen with a navigation key panel that makes operation simple.
PRINT DRIVERS
As with control panels, print-driver design can vary enormously from manufacturer-to-manufacturer. OKI Printing Solutions has made it an effortless procedure with their design of the PCL and PostScript drivers. The drivers are the same as other OKI Printing Solutions device drivers, which will make it especially easy for OKI Printing Solutions users to quickly acclimate to it.
Print Driver Checklist

USER ACCESSIBILITY
An ever increasing number of countries are passing legislation prohibiting government agencies from purchasing devices that are not accessible to those with physical impairments and in many countries this legislation extends to the corporate environment also. For this reason—and the corporate world’s increased focus on delivering a better work environment for all—user-friendly features for physically-impaired users are more common.
Common design features include tilting control panels, which give wheelchair-bound users a better view of the screen, and larger display options for those with impaired vision. Voice navigation and Braille also are becoming increasingly popular. Easy access to the paper path for misfeed removal and front access to toner supplies also make a device more user-friendly.
The OKI Printing Solutions B431dn has exceptional accessibility features that are designed for convenient accessibility for everyone in the workplace, these systems incorporate user friendly features such as simple LCD display and navigation panel, easy-pull paper drawers.
USER ACCESSIBILITY PAPER JAM REMOVAL
Paper jam removal and is a simple process for those in a wheelchair. There are no hidden jam points and all access areas are at a comfortable height and angel for access from the front of the device. Adding paper and replacing toner is all a simple process from a wheelchair as well. Toner access area opens easily during the toner replacement process and is designed to be lighter and easy to replace, so most users can do it with one hand.
