press and hold for a few seconds or until the display turns on. If prompted, enter your four-digit unlock code.
To turn off your phone, press and hold for two seconds.

To make a call, enter a phone

number and press or use a voice command.
To answer a call when your phone rings and/or vibrates, press . To answer a call on speakerphone, press the speaker key .
To hang up, press .

You can listen to music from your favorite CDs on your new Motorola Debut i856. Just load the music onto your computer, and then transfer the music from the computer to your phone.
From a CD – Windows Media Player

Insert the music CD in your computer’s CD drive and Launch Windows Media Player 11.
Copy the music CD to the media player library

(also called ripping the CD).
Insert a microSD card into your phone and set your

phone to memory card access mode by pressing
Menu > Settings > Connections > USB > Memory Card Access. Plug your phone into your
computer using an original Motorola USB data cable.
Go to “My Computer.”

Double click on the memory card (removable disk)

and folders will be displayed (MUSIC, VIDEO, My_Music, etc).
Note: You’ll need an optional microSD memory card installed in your phone to use the music player.
Note: Before you copy files to your phone, make sure the files are in a format that the phone recognizes. Your phone’s music player can play the following types of audio files: AAC, AAC+, MP3, WAV, WMA, Real Audio G2/8/10.

Grab the My_Music folder within “My Documents”

and drop it into the MUSIC folder.
Disconnect the device from the computer.

Have music already loaded on a memory card or your computer? You can load it onto your phone in a few simple steps.
Insert the memory card (removable disk)

into your Motorola Debut i856 phone, then turn it on.
Now change your connection settings

to memory card access. Press Menu >
Settings > Connections > USB > Memory Card Access.
On your computer, double click the

My Computer icon, and then the Removable Disk icon.
You will see a variety of folders, double

click the My_Music icon.
Copy all of the music files from this

folder and paste them into the MUSIC folder icon.

Remember, you must tell your computer

Place pre-loaded microSD card into

Connect your phone to a PC with a

Grab My_Music folder with the pre-loaded

Launch music player
When you insert a microSD card for the first time, your phone will give you four options. Select option 2, “Go to My Music” to start the music player. In the music player press the Menu key and select “Reload Music” to add the songs to your music library.
To activate your phone’s music player,

press the music player key.
Scroll to choose how you want

your music played (Songs, Playlists, Albums, etc.).
To play the first music file in the folder, press under Play. (If the selected folder contains subfolders, this plays the first music file in the first of the subfolders.)
Press to view the folder’s

contents. Scroll to a music file and press under Play or to play the first music file in it.
Tip: The Songs folder contains all the music files on the memory card in a single list.

Music controls
Your music player has all the same controls you’d expect. Here’s how to use them.

Pause and Resume: Press under Pause or to
pause, and press under Play or to resume playing paused music files.
Skip to Next or Previous: Press and release right or left to skip to the next or previous music file.
Fast Forward and Rewind: Press and hold right or left for 2 seconds to fast forward or to rewind.

You can create your own sets of music—or playlists—to use when riding the train or working out.
Press the music player key.

Enter a playlist name.

Note: If you do not assign a name, the playlist is named Playlist followed by a number. For example, the first playlist you create without a name is automatically named Playlist-1.
Select each file you want on the

playlist. A checkmark appears by each selected file.
Tip: To deselect a selected item, scroll to the file and press .
When you are finished selecting files,

press under Done and under Save.

Changing a playlist is as easy as changing your mind. You can remove some or all songs while creating or editing a playlist.

Before you have saved a new playlist or while editing a playlist, scroll to the song you want to remove.
Press > Remove Song

and press OK.
Confirm that you want the song

removed from the playlist.
Don’t worry, you are not deleting the song from your library, you’re just removing it from your playlist.

Decide you want to remove a playlist from your phone completely? No problem, it’s easy to do as well.
While you’re in the music player,

select Playlists.
Scroll to the playlist you want to

delete and press the > Delete Playlist. Press the button under Yes to confirm.

While you’re listening to the music player, you have a number of settings you can adjust. Set-up the following options in the music player by pressing ( > Setup.
To customize music playback,

select Equalizer.
You can select sounds like

Pop, R&B, and Rock.
You can also select custom visual effects for the music playback screen. Press > Setup then scroll to Visuals and press left or right to change your selection.
