7. Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer’s
instructions.
8. Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other
apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
9. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarized
plug has two blades with one wider than the other. A grounding type plug has two blades
and a third grounding prong. The wide blade or the third prong are provided for your
safety. If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for
replacement of the obsolete outlet.
10. Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched particularly at plugs,
convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.
11. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of
time.
12. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the

dropped.
13. WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire or electrical shock, this apparatus should not be
exposed to rain or moisture and objects filled with liquids, such as vases, should not be
placed on this apparatus.

cord plug from the receptacle.
15. The mains plug of the power supply cord shall remain readily operable.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS ENGLISH
m-cube sub manual 03-11-04.qxd 15/12/2004 08:24 Page 4
Warning: If using spikes make sure that they do not pierce
mains cables etc. under/above the carpet.
When making any connections, switch your amplifier off.
Do not subject your subwoofer to excessive cold, heat,
humidity or sunlight.
Position your subwoofer at least 0.5m away from TV sets,
computers etc. Some manufacturers forbid the placing of
objects on top of their TV sets. Check your TV handbook
before installing the centre speaker directly on your TV set.
Consult your TV dealer if you are in any doubt.
When you switch on your system or change sources, set
the volume control at minimum and turn the level up
gradually.
Position hi-fi electronics away from the subwoofer on a
rigid stand or cabinet.
Do not connect your loudspeakers to the mains supply,
except for subwoofers.
Retain all packaging materials so that your subwoofer can
be repacked and shipped without damage.
Only use attachments/accessories specified by the
manufacturer.
Do not use your amplifier at full volume.
When an amplifier is driven beyond its power output
capabilities it will produce distortion which will quickly
damage your speakers by overheating. Make sure that
your amplifier is not left unattended when playing, for
example at parties, and turn the volume control down at
the first sign of audible distortion.
Avoid extreme settings of tone controls or graphic
equalisers. Ideally, they should be set ‘flat’ or, if possible,
bypassed. Ensure that all loudspeakers in the system are
correctly wired and are in phase.
Do not attempt to dismantle the subwoofer. There are no
user serviceable parts inside and you will render the
warranty void.
2 - 3
The lightning flash with arrowhead symbol within an equilateral triangle,
is intended to alert the user to the presence of uninsulated ”dangerous
voltage” within the product’s enclosure that may be of sufficient
magnitude to constitute a risk of electric shock to persons.
The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle is intended to alert
the user to the presence of important operating and maintenance
(servicing) instructions in the literature accompanying the product.

STAGE 1
IN ORDER THAT YOUR SUBWOOFER FUNCTIONS
CORRECTLY, YOU MUST CONNECT ALL RECEIVER
CHANNELS TO THE SUBWOOFER VIA THE
UMBILICAL CABLE.
*IF YOU OWN A 6-CHANNEL RECEIVER AND HAVE
PURCHASED A SIXTH SATELLITE, THE CHANNEL
LABELLED ‘REAR CENTRE’ ON THE UMBILICAL
CABLE WILL NEED TO BE CONNECTED TO YOUR
RECEIVER.
Connect the umbilical cable multi-way plug to
the subwoofer input socket labelled 'SPEAKER
INPUT'. Connect the LFE cable to the socket
labelled 'LFE IN'.
Unsheath and connect the umbilical cable bare
wires to your receiver's 5 x speaker level outputs.
Each wire is labelled to correspond with the
appropriate amplifier channel. Connect the cable
labelled 'LFE' to your receiver's LFE (subwoofer)
output socket.
Do not unsheath or connect the channel labelled
‘REAR CENTRE’.*

Setting up
the M-Cube
subwoofer
FINE VOLUME
This fine tunes the subwoofer output level.
CROSSOVER
Increasing this control (towards ‘300Hz’) will
increase the upper bass output from the
subwoofer; decreasing this control (towards
‘250Hz’) will reduce the upper bass output.
BASS CONTOUR
Increasing this control towards ‘MAX’ will give
more bass extension and impact, at the expense
of some speed and fidelity (more suited to movie
playback). Decreasing this control towards ‘MIN’
will provide tighter, more detailed bass, at the
expense of some weight and impact (more suited
to music playback). At high listening levels, avoid
settings close to ‘MAX’ for optimum performance.
PHASE
Correctly adjusting this control will help to obtain
even-sounding upper bass.
The M-Cube subwoofer has been factory-set to
operate in 'default' mode. The default settings are
shown in the diagram. You may wish to adjust
one or more of the subwoofer controls to tailor the
M-Cube response to your own taste.
CONTROLS OVERVIEW CONTROLSSTAGE 2
MAINS POWER
The mains power switch is located on the rear
panel of the subwoofer, next to the IEC mains inlet.
To power up the unit, firstly insert the mains plug
into the mains socket, and insert the IEC plug into
the IEC mains inlet in the subwoofer. Then turn
the mains switch at the back of the subwoofer to
the ‘ON’ position.
To power down the unit, return the switch to the
‘OFF’ position.

Additional
Features
6 - 7
OVERDRIVE PROTECTION
Your M-Cube subwoofer is protected by
sophisticated overdrive detection circuitry:
If the safe operating threshold is exceeded, the
subwoofer's internal gain circuitry will limit the
output to a fixed level. The subwoofer will
continue to play at the same level, but with
reduced dynamic capability compared to the
original recording.
If you notice the protection circuitry activating, you
will need to reduce the receiver volume in order
to regain maximum performance from your
system.
If you wish the M-Cube subwoofer to switch to
standby when not in use, select 'AUTO POWER
ON' [below]. The subwoofer will switch into
standby after approximately 15 minutes if no
signal is present, and the illuminated top-panel
will switch off. The subwoofer and illuminated
top-panel will then switch back on if a signal is
detected.
If you wish the subwoofer to remain on
constantly, until the mains power is switched off,
select 'AUTO POWER OFF'.
AUTOPOWER FUNCTIONSTAGE 3
For hard flooring: Remove the backing from the 4 x
self-adhesive rubber feet, and fit to the recesses on
the base of the subwoofer.
For carpeted flooring: Remove the backing from
the 4 x self-adhesive rubber pads, and fit to the
recesses on the base of the subwoofer. Screw in
the spikes and lock nuts, and adjust so that the
subwoofer is level when sitting in the desired
position.
FITTING SUBWOOFER FEET
Warning: Be careful. Spikes are very sharp.
When positioning the subwoofer avoid piercing any
electrical cables etc. under or above the carpet.

Care,
service, and
troubleshooting
Use only a soft, dry cloth to clean your subwoofer. Do not use damp / wet cloths as you will be at
risk of electrocution, and do not use abrasives as you will risk damaging the finish.
