Installing and connection
When using your appliance, follow basic safety precautions including the following:
Read all instructions before using for the first time.
Be certain your appliance is properly installed and grounded
by a qualified technician.
To guarantee the electrical safety
of this appliance; continuity must exist between the appliance and an ef­fective grounding system. It is impera­tive that this basic safety requirement be met. If there is any doubt, have the electrical system of the house checked by a qualified electrician. The manufac­turer cannot be held responsible for damages caused by the lack, or inade­quacy of, an effective grounding sys­tem.
Do not connect the appliance to
the main electrical supply using an extension cord. Extension cords do not­meet the safety requirements of this ap­pliance.
Before servicing, disconnect the
power supply by either removing the fuse, unplugging the unit or ma­nually “tripping” the circuit breaker.

Protection from damage
Do not drop anything on the ce-
ramic surface. Even a light object could cause damage in certain circum­stances.
Do not use a steam cleaner to
clean the appliance. Steam could penetrate electrical components and cause a short circuit.
In areas subject to infestation by
cockroaches or other vermin, keep the appliance and its surroundings clean at all times. Any damage caused by pests will not be covered under war­ranty.

Protection from burns
Do not leave the fryer unattended
while in use. Overheated oil can ig­nite. Do not allow an open flame in the vicinity of the fryer.
Do not let cooking grease or other
flammable materials accumulate on the appliance. Make certain there are no open flames present when ad­ding oil to the fryer.
Do not use water on grease fires.
Smother any fire or flame or use a dry chemical or foam extinguisher.
To avoid personal injury, use ex-
treme caution when lifting the bas­ket from the reservoir or filtering the hot oil.
Never put water or ice into hot oil;
this can cause a serious reaction leading to injury.
Frying oil can normally be used 6-
10 times. Between each use the oil should be poured through a strainer lined with a paper filter. Oil containing impurities may ignite.
Use only dry, heat resistant pot-
holders. Moist or damp potholders used on hot surfaces can result in steam burns. Do not let the potholder touch the hot heating elements or come in contact with the oil or water. Do not use towels or other bulky items near the appliance.
Wear proper apparel. Loose fitting
or hanging garments should never be worn while using the appliance.
Do not store aerosols, combus-
tibles and/or any other easily flammable materials underneath or ad­jacent to the appliance.
Do not allow children to operate or play with, or near, the fryer.
Do not store toys or items of inter-
est to children in cabinets above or behind the appliance. Children climbing onto the fryer to reach these items may become seriously injured.

Damage to the appliance
In the event of any damage to the
appliance, it must be turned off im­mediately and disconnected from the electricity supply by either removing the fuse, unplugging the unit or ma­nually “tripping” the circuit breaker. Contact the Miele Technical Service De­partment. Do not use the appliance until it has been repaired. Ensure power is not supplied to the ap­pliance while repair work is being car­ried out.
Any breakages or cracks in the ce-
ramic surface of the appliance are defects and must be treated as such. Do not use the appliance until it has been repaired.
Repairs should only be performed
by qualified technicians to ensure safety. Repairs and other work by un­qualified persons could be dangerous. Under no circumstances open the outer casing of the appliance.
While the appliance is under war-
ranty repairs should only be per­formed by a Miele authorized service technician. Otherwise the warranty is in­validated.

When using a portable appliance
near the fryer, make sure that its power cord does not come into contact with the heating element or reservoir of the fryer.
Always make sure food is suffi-
ciently cooked or reheated. Many factors affect the overall cooking time, including the size and amount of food, its temperature, and the recipe. Some foods may contain microorganisms that are only destroyed by thorough cook­ing. If in doubt, select a longer cooking or reheating time.
Always cook pork thoroughly to en-
sure that the meat is safe to eat.
Do not store or transport hot oil in
plastic containers. Plastic melts!
Frying oil is no longer usable and
must be replaced when it becomes dark and thick, smells un­pleasant, or froths and smokes at a temperature of 340°F (170° C) or less.
Allow hot oil to cool before draining the fryer.
Before discarding an old ap-
pliance, remove the power cord and any doors to prevent it from be­coming a hazard.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS AND REVIEW THEM PERIODICALLY
Throughout the manual, important safety items will be highlighted in boxes and should be read in con­junction with these “Warning and Safety instructions.”
Do not pour oil or fat down the
sink. Oil and fat can block the drain pipes and/or cause serious sep­tic problems. Consult with your local sewage or sanitation authority for the proper disposal of used oil or fat.
