Warning and safety instructions
Warning and safety instructions
This machine meets all the statutory safety requirements. Improper use may cause accidents and damage to the machine. Before installation and before using the machine for the first time, read the operating instructions carefully. This way you will avoid the risk of accidents and damage to the machine. Keep the operating instructions in a safe place.
Specified use of the machine
This machine is only authorised for
the applications mentioned in the operating instructions. Do not use the machine for purposes other than those for which it was designed, as this might be dangerous. The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for damage caused by improper use of the machine.
The electrical safety of this ma-
chine can only be guaranteed when continuity is complete between the appliance and an effective earthing system. It is imperative that this basic safety requirement is tested and where there is any doubt, the electrical system should be checked by a qualified electrician. The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for damage caused by the lack or inadequacy of an effective earthing system (e.g. electric shock).
A damaged machine poses a
safety risk. Disconnect the machine immediately from the mains supply and inform a suitably qualified service technician.
Repairs should only be carried out
by suitably qualified and competent service technicians. Repairs by unqualified persons could be dangerous.
The machine should not be oper-
ated by unauthorised personnel.
Please note the following in order to prevent accidents
Commissioning and repairs should
only be carried out by a suitably qualified and competent Miele service technician, an authorised Miele service dealer or by other suitably qualified and competent service technicians.
Do not install the machine where
there is a risk of explosion or where sub-zero temperatures may occur.
Take care when handling liquid
cleaning agents/additives. These may contain irritants or corrosive substances. Do not use organic solvents as there may be the danger of explosion. Carefully follow the relevant safety instructions on packaging and wear protective gloves and goggles.
5
Warning and safety instructions
Avoid inhaling powder dust. Swallowing detergent may cause
burns or even lead to suffocation.
The water in the machine must not be used as drinking water.
Do not sit or lean on the open door. This could cause the machine to
tip and be damaged.
Be careful when sorting sharp
pointed instruments not to injure yourself. If necessary, place the pointed end downwards with the handles pointing upwards.
When using the machine at high
temperatures take care as the load is extremely hot and may cause burns. Baskets and inserts must first be allowed to cool. Empty any water still remaining in concave items into the cabinet before removing the load.
Do not touch the heating elements
after the end of a programme as this may cause burns.
Never use a hose or a high-press-
ure cleaner on or in the vicinity of the machine.
Before carrying out repairs, discon-
nect the machine from the mains supply (switch off at the main socket and pull out the plug, switch off the appropriate circuit at the fuse box or withdraw the mains fuse).
Please heed the following instructions in order to guarantee the quality of cleaning performance and to avoid damage.
Only use detergents which have
been tested and recommended by Miele for use in special dishwashers. Use of other cleaning agents may cause damage to both the load and the machine.
Prior treatment (e.g. with deter-
gent), but also certain types of soil and some detergents may cause foaming which may have an adverse effect on the quality of cleaning.
The recommendation of specific
chemical products (e. g. detergent) for individual applications does not mean that the appliance manufacturer accepts responsibility for any effect these may have on the articles being processed. Please note that variations in composition, storage conditions, etc., which are not always announced by the detergent manufacturer, may affect the quality of the cleaning results.
When using detergents and spe-
cial cleaning agents, take particular care to follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Only use the appropriate cleaning agent for the application recommended by the manufacturer. Improper use may cause damage to material, or in some cases lead to severe chemical reaction (e.g. oxyhydrogen explosion).
6
Warning and safety instructions
Only use water and cleaning agents
in this machine. Do not use organic solvents as there may be a danger of explosion. (Note: There are many organic solvents which do not pose a risk of explosion, but may cause other problems, such as damage to elastomers and plastic components).
In the case of critical applications
requiring a particularly high standard of cleaning, cleaning programmes and parameters (detergent, quality of water, etc.) should be coordinated with the Miele Applications Technology Department.
If a particularly high standard of
cleaning and rinsing is required (e. g. chemical analysis, special industrial production, etc.), regular quality checks must take place to guarantee the correct standard of cleaning.
Use special inserts in accordance
with the instructions provided.
Do not allow any acid or solvent
residue, especially hydrochloric acid and solutions containing chloride to get into the wash cabinet. This also applies to ferrous components susceptible to corrosion. Only traces of solvent in conjunction with soil (particularly for the highest risk category) are permissible.
Take care that solutions/vapours
containing hydrochloric acid do not come into contact with the stainlesssteel casing, as this may cause corrosion.
Please heed installation instruc-
tions and refer to the installation diagram supplied with the machine.
Empty all concave items before placing them in the machine.
7
Warning and safety instructions
Use of accessories
Only Miele accessories designed
for the appropriate application should be connected to the machine. Model designations of individual appliances can be obtained from the Miele Application Technology Department.
Disposal of old appliances
Before discarding an old machine,
unplug it and render the plug useless. For environmental and safety reasons, ensure that the machine is completely drained of any residual cleaning agent. Observe safety regulations and wear safety goggles and gloves. Make the door inoperative by removing the lock pin (2 Phillips screws above the door). This will prevent children from accidentally locking themselves in. Then make appropriate arrangements for the safe disposal of the appliance. For machines with a tank system, ensure that the tank is evacuated before disposal of the appliance.
The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for damage caused by failure to heed the warning and safety instructions.
In countries where there are areas
which may be subject to infestation by cockroaches or other vermin, pay particular attention to keeping the machine and its surroundings in a clean condition at all times. Any damage which may be caused by cockroaches or other vermin will not be covered by the machine guarantee.

not fitted with a water
9
Setting the water softener
Setting the water softener
- Only for machines with a built-in water softener -
To avoid the build up of calcareous deposits on both the load and the machine, the water needs to be softened, if supply hardness is over 6°d (1.07 mmol/l).
To ensure a steady supply of soft water, the built-in water softener must always be:
1. Correctly set
2. Topped up with salt as soon as the
k indicator light goes on.
When commissioning a machine the water softener must be set to correspond with supply hardness.
Your local water authority will advise you on the supply hardness in your area.
Setting the water softener
The hardness range is divided into 18 units and a zero position. The dishwasher is set at the factory for a water hardness time setting "8", corresponding to 19°d (3.38 mmol/l). If your water supply is softer than this, then:
Change the setting on the controls (see table).

Loading the machine
Prior to loading
Empty all items before placing them in the machine (if applicable, observe regulations on preventing the spread of contagious diseases).
Do not allow any remains of acids or solvents, especially hydrochloric acid and chlorine to get into the wash cabinet.
Notes
Load items so that water can access all surfaces. This ensures that items will be thoroughly cleaned.
Do not place crockery and cutlery inside each other where they may be concealed.
Hollow items, such as cups, glasses, pans, jugs, etc., must be inverted in the basket to ensure that water comes into contact with all surfaces.
The rotation of the spray arms must not be obstructed by items which are too high for the basket or which hang down in their path. If necessary, manually rotate the arms to test this.
Loading the upper basket
Insert small, lightweight and delicate items such as cups, saucers, glasses, small bowls and heat-resistant plastic.
Loading the lower basket
Insert larger, heavier items such as plates, serving platters, saucepans, bowls, etc. Glasses may only be cleaned in the lower basket if it is fitted with a special glassware insert.
Cutlery
Unsorted cutlery should be placed in a cutlery basket, handles pointing downwards.
Deep-based items should be placed at an angle to enable water to run off them freely.
Tall hollow items should be placed in the centre of the basket to allow water easier access.
Small items should be placed on the cup racks. Cups should be on the lower rack and bowls on the top rack so that water reaches all items.
Do not cover the funnel in the middle of the top basket.

Reactivating the water softener
Reactivating the water softener
– Only applicable for machines with a built-in water softener –
When the k indicator light on the left hand side of the control panel comes on during a programme the built-in water softener is depleted and cannot supply any more softened water. It must therefore be reactivated with washer salt as soon as the programme has finished.
If this cannot be done immediately, and further batches have been washed, then the reactivation process must be carried out twice in succession.
dish-
Never fill the salt reservoir with dishwasher cleaning agent this can lead to – damage to the water softener and – blockage of the salt container
filter insert, resulting in a build up
of pressure in the salt reservoir. The irritant alkali solution could be a hazard and personal injury could be caused when the salt container is removed. Make sure that you have picked up the right packet of before filling the salt container.
dishwasher salt
Only use special coarse grained dishwasher salt (granule size approx. 1-4 mm), for reactivation, as other salts may contain insoluble impurities or additives which can impair the functioning of the softener.
The salt container holds approx. 2 kg salt.
Important
If the only reactivation salt available is fine grain, please consult your Miele service representative.
Reactivation salt with granules larger than 4 mm cannot be used.
Filling the salt container
Unscrew the filter insert from the salt container and remove.
Fill the salt container with granular dishwasher salt and screw the filter insert back in place.
26
Reactivating the water softener
Position the salt container as follows:
Remove the bottom basket from the machine.
Unscrew the plastic cap in the base of the wash cabinet.
Switch on the machine
Open the stopcocks if previously closed. Close the door. Press I-0. Press the k touch pad.
Press the "Start" h touch pad. The reactivation programme proceeds automatically and finishes when the indicator light k at the left hand side of the control panel and the "Start" indicator light h have gone out.
Then:
Switch off the machine.
Unscrew the salt container carefully,
so that any water pressure that has
built up can be released. Do not use
force. If you cannot uncrew the salt
container by hand, contact the Miele
Service department.
Screw the plastic lid back on the socket.
Reposition bottom basket.
Rinse the salt container and filter in-
sert thoroughly.
Turn off the stopcocks if the machine
is not to be used again for some time.
Place the salt container on the reactivation socket and screw firmly into place.
Important
The water pressure (flow pressure at the take off point) must be at least 2.5 bar. If it less than this see "Programming special functions".
If the flow pressure is below 2.5 bar, or if it fluctuates, the water softener cannot be reactivated in the normal way. After reactivation, salt remains may still be found in the salt container.
To use up the salt remains and to wash out the water softener, the "reactivate softener" programme must be switched on again.

Correcting minor faults
Correcting minor faults
Repairs to electrical components should only be carried out by a suitably qualified technician. Improper repairs may pose a serious risk to the user.
The following explanatory notes, however, show how some minor faults can be rectified without calling in a service technician.
Faults / possible causes
The dishwasher does not start
– The door is not properly closed. – The machine is not plugged in. – The fuse has blown.
A few minutes after switching on, the p q indicator flashes
– The stopcocks are turned off.
The water in the wash cabinet is not heated; the programme sequence lasts too long.
This dishwasher has a resettable thermal cut-out which isolates the heater elements in the case of overheating. This could be caused, for example, if large objects cover the heater elements or if the filters in the wash cabinet are blocked.
Remove the cause of the fault.
Take off the service panel (see
"Electrical connection").
– The filters in the water inlet hose are
dirty. Switch off the machine.
Open the stopcocks or clean the filters (see "Cleaning and care"). Switch on the machine again and restart the programme.
The wash cycle finishes too early and the p q indicator flashes
– The drain hose is kinked. – The door was opened and closed
again during the programme cycle.
– There was a power failure.
Rectify the fault if possible. Drain the machine and restart the programme (see "Interrupting a programme").
30
Press in the re-set button (blue) on
the thermal cut-out. If the thermal cut-out trips repeatedly,
the MIELE Service Department must be contacted.
If it is not possible to remedy a fault by following the instructions given above, the MIELE Service Department must be contacted.
Installation
Installation
Please refer to the installation diagram supplied with the machine
The machine must stand firmly on the ground and be levelled accordingly. Floor unevenness can be compensated by adjusting the leg levellers.
Installation options for this machine are as follows:
Freestanding Slot-in or end-of-row:
The dishwasher should be installed adjacent to other appliances and furniture or in a recess at least 60 cm wide and 60 cm deep.
Built under:
Install the machine under a continuous worktop or under a draining board. The recess dimensions should be at least 60 x 60 x 82 cm (W x D x H).
The machine lid must be removed as follows:
Open the door.
Remove the fixing screws on the left
and right-hand sides, using a Phillips
screwdriver.
Pull the machine lid forwards by ap-
prox. 5 mm and remove by lifting up-
wards. By removing the lid, the machine can
be built into an 82 cm high recess. If the recess height is 87 cm, a conversion kit is required.
Aligning and bolting the machine
To guarantee stability, the dishwasher must first be aligned and then screwed to the worktop.
Open the door. Screw the machine
to the continuous worktop through
each of the two holes on the left and
right-hand side of the front strip.

Connection to the water inlet
The machine must be connected to the mains supply in accordance with local and national regulations.
As the machine is designed to comply with DVGW regulations, a separate non-return device is not required.
Flow pressure should be between
2.5 and 10 bar. If the supply pressure is not within this range, the MIELE Service Department will give advice on the appropriate measures to take (see also "Programming special functions").
The machine is fitted as standard with connections for cold (blue mark-
and hot (red marking) water in-
ing) take, max. 70°C. The inlet hoses should be connected to the hot and cold water supply. If a supply of hot water is not available, the inlet hose with the ing must also be connected to the cold water supply. In this case, both hoses must be connected to the cold water supply. The hose marked with 90°C should also only be connected to a hot water supply with a max. temperature of 70°C in order to prolong its life cycle.
Stopcocks with 3/4" threaded union should be fitted on site. They should be easily accessible, as the water supply must be turned off when the machine is not in use.
red mark-
The machine is fitted with 10 mm inlet hoses with 3/4" threaded union, length 1.7 m. On no account must the filters at the entrance to the inlet hose be removed.
Install large surface area filters (included in the accessories kit) between the stopcock and the inlet hose (illustr. see "Cleaning and care, water intake").
Also refer to the installation instructions enclosed
The water in the cabinet is not suitable for drinking!
Drainage
The drainage system is fitted with a non-return valve which prevents dirty water from flowing back into the machine via the drain hose.
The machine is fitted with approximately 1.5 m of flexible drain hose (22 mm dia.). The drain hose must not be shortened. A hose clip is provided.
Longer drain hoses, max. length 4 m are available if required.
The length of the drain hose must not exceed 4 m, the delivery head should not exceed 1 m.

Caring for the environment
Disposal of transport packaging
Transport packaging protects the machine from damage during transport. Transport and protective packaging is made from environmentally friendly, recyclable materials.
Recycling packaging material helps to conserve natural resources and reduce waste. These materials should be taken to the nearest local collection point for recyclable materials, rather than just throwing them away.
Disposal of old appliances
Old appliances contain valuable materials. Please enquire about suitable recycling schemes at your local authority before discarding an old appliance. Ensure that children cannot gain access to discarded appliances.
Caring for the environment
Before discarding an old appliance, unplug it and render the plug useless. For environmental and safety reasons, ensure that the machine is completely drained of any residual cleaning agent. Observe safety regulations and wear safety goggles and gloves. Make the door lock inoperative by removing the lock pin (2 Phillips screws above the door). This will prevent children accidentally locking themselves in. Then make appropriate arrangements for the safe disposal of the appliance. For machines with a tank system, ensure that the tank is evacuated before disposal of the appliance.
