its engineering is on the cutting edge, its sur vival instincts have been honed for generations. After all, Mercedes -Benz didn’t just
introduce 4 - wheel disc brakes, crumple zones and the Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) in the world of cars. We also pioneered
such advances as side curtain air bags and the 4- wheel Electronic Traction System in the SUV kingdom as well. The GLK- Class wraps
nine standard air bags and an army of advanced safety systems in a high - strength steel body — all ready to respond as an integrated
system of protection. It’s the reassuring result of decades spent preparing for what could be a few milliseconds of misadventure.

GLK- Class body s tructure is made from high- and
ultra- high- strength steel. Advanced crumple zones,
two steel beam s in each d oor, and an extensi vely
reinforced cab in help to diver t impact ene rgy over,

Adaptive brakes. A n integrated system of bra king
advances hel ps to make drivin g more rea ssuring in
a variety of situations. Should the driver lif t off th e
accelerator quickly, Predictive Brake Priming sets the
brake pads closer to the discs — for more immediate
response when the driver steps on the brakes. When
drivin g with the w indsh ield w ipers on, A utomat ic
Brake Drying gently appli es the brakes periodically —
to swee p away water t hat ca n acc umulate on th e
discs in the rain. And during uphill starts, a Hill -Start
Assist feature helps to prevent unwanted rollback.

Emergency- sensing. Two safety systems originally
pioneered by Mercedes- Benz help you avoid potential
collis ions. The E lectro nic St abili ty Pro gram (ESP)
monitors the vehicle’s response to driving i nputs
such as steer ing and br aking, and responds to h elp
keep it on course during evasive maneuvers.3 Brake
Assist can apply full braking pressure if it detects an
emergency braking situation — based on how quickly
the driver ste ps on the br ake pedal — potentially
shortening your overall stopping distance.

Bi- Xenon headlamps. With the optional Lighting
Package, Bi -Xenon headlamps pierce the night with
light that’s clo ser in perc eption to nat ural dayligh t
than halogen headlamps. Ac tive Cur ve Illuminati on
swivels the headlamp beams as you turn the steering
wheel, to improve illumin ation in to corn ers up to
90% over conventio nal fixed lamps. The packag e
also includes corner- illuminating front lamps, to help
brighten your path into sha rp turns and driveways,
as well as h eadlamp wash ers that he lp to keep the
lamps cleane r with a hig h- pressure spray of flu id.
Daytime lighting. Standard Daytime Running Lamps
(DRLs) he lp make your pre sence more apparent to
other drivers on the roa d. With the optional Lig hting
Package or the AM G Styling Pa ckage, bright w hite
LEDs help ma ke the DRLs even more noticea ble.

Advanced restraints. Nine standard air bags in the
GLK- Class offer 11- way protection. Innovative pelvic
air bags complement the front- seat side- impact air
bags. A driver ’s knee air bag aug ments d ual - stage
front air bags.5 Side curtain air bags are provided at
all four outboard seating positions, as are seat- belt
Emergency Tensioning Devices (ETDs) and belt- force
limiters. In a rear imp act, NECK -PRO active f ront
head restr aints help to prevent whip lash.
Post - collision r espons e. In the ev ent th at an
air bag or a seat -belt ETD de ploys, the opti onal
Mercedes- Benz mbrace™ system includes Automatic
Collision Notification, which initiates a call to our
24 -hour emergency response center — even if you
cannot.6 In addition, the GLK will automatically shut
off its engine and fuel supply, turn on the hazard
flashers and some of the interior lights, partially open
the windows to help ventilate the cabin, and unlock
the doors in an effort to assist rescuers.
