This is a typical use for CR2-X CUBE. This would be a prime example of utilizing it to play music. First, make sure the CR2-X CUBE is positioned for your setup. Next, connect RCA cables from the active speaker to the passive speaker.
Here a phone is connected to CR2-X CUBE via Bluetooth, although it can also be “hardwired” into the /8" stereo input jack using an /8" to /8" cable. Both options are on display here.
Next, make sure that the input selector switch is set to either Bluetooth or /8" / Aux, depending on how the phone is connected, of course.
Now play audio through the phone, making sure that the volume of the phone and CR2-X CUBE are above “0”. Once you hear audio, simply adjust volume to taste!
Optional: Is there someone who doesn’t like what you’re listening to? Well, first o, they’re wrong. That’s a given. There is a solution, though. Plugging a pair of Mackie headphones into the /8" headphones jack auto-defeats the speaker output. The volume slider then controls the level going to the phones.

The illustration above shows another typical use for CR2-X CUBE. This would be a prime example of utilizing it for gaming. First, make sure the CR2-X CUBE is positioned for your setup. Next, connect RCA cables from the active speaker to the passive speaker.
A gaming computer is connected to CR2-X CUBE utilizing a USB-C to USB-A cable.
Next, make sure that the input selector switch is set to USB. Don’t forget to change the output to ‘CR2-X CUBE’ via Settings on your computer
Now play audio through the computer, making sure that the volume of the computer and CR2-X CUBE are above “0”. Once you hear audio, simply adjust volume to taste!
Optional: As shown above, a CR6S-X subwoofer is connected to the CR2-X CUBE’s /8" TO SUB output jack. Just imagine what your games and movies would sound like with one of these setups. Now stop imagining and go dial it up!
Optional: Plugging a pair of Mackie headphones into the /8" headphones jack auto-defeats the speaker output. The volume slider then controls the level going to the phones.

. Power Connector
CR2-X CUBE has a universal external power supply that accepts any AC voltage ranging from 00 VAC to 240 VAC. No need for voltage select switches. It will work virtually anywhere in the world. That’s why we call it a “Planet Earth” power supply! It is less susceptible to voltage sags or spikes compared to conventional power supplies, and provides greater electromagnetic isolation and better protection against AC line noise.
Attach the AC connector (the smaller, shorter cable that plugs into the wall) to the power supply adapter (the bigger, longer cable that plugs into the CR2-X CUBE).
The power supply adapter may be connected to the CR2-X CUBE by pushing it into the power receptacle on the rear panel and plugging the other end into a live AC outlet. The LED on the power supply will illuminate blue to indicate that it is receiving power.
Only use the factory-authorized power supply that came with the CR2-X CUBE.

3. To Sub
Not much of a surprise here, as we would like you to connect this output to the input of a subwoofer using an /8" connector.
When connected, the CR2-X CUBE automatically shifs to sub mode, resulting in a roll-o of the low frequencies.
Of course, we would highly recommend the CR6S-X or CR8S-XBT subwoofer; see the hookup diagram on page 6 and check the Mackie website for more information!
4. /8" Stereo Input Jack
Connect a line-level signal from a smartphone, MP3 player or other signal source to this input jack using an unbalanced /8" connector.
It is wired as follows, according to standards specified by the AES (Audio Engineering Society):
2. Power Switch
Press the top side of this rocker switch inwards to turn on the CR2-X CUBE. The front panel LED (of the active speaker) will illuminate green, confirming success. Additionally, it will state, “Power on. Bluetooth pairing mode.” Press the bottom side of this rocker switch inwards to turn it o.

Sleeve = Shield (Ground) Tip = Lef Channel Ring = Right Channel
5. USB
Since the CR2-X CUBE are “Compact Desktop Speakers,” the USB connection will (most likely) be one of the most widely used features. In short, it works as an interface that allows audio to stream from the CR2-X CUBE via computer.
This is the connection that will be used for gaming, watching movies and fun cat videos, playing music or just about any other sound that is emitted from your computer.

7. Phones Output
This /8" TRS connector supplies the output to stereo headphones. The volume is controlled with the volume slider. The signal to the power amp is killed when headphones are connected.
The phones output is wired as follows, according to standards specified by the AES (Audio Engineering Society):
Stereo /8" TRS
Sleeve = Shield (Ground) Tip = Lef Channel Ring = Right Channel
Warning: The headphone amp is loud and could cause permanent hearing damage. Even intermediate levels may
be painfully loud with some headphones. BE CAREFUL! Always turn the volume all the way down before connecting headphones. Then turn it up slowly as you listen carefully.

CR2-X CUBE: Top Panel Features
The features listed below are laid out horizontally on the right (active) speaker underneath the speaker, but above the power LED.
8. Input Selector Switch and LEDs
This is a momentary switch that cycles between the three input choices: USB, /8" and Bluetooth.
Simply press this switch to cycle between the input selections. Each input selection is accompanied by a dierent colored LED.
• USB [Purple] – More information on page 7.
• /8" / Aux [Amber] – More information on page 7.
• Bluetooth [Cyan] – More information on page 9.
All inputs may be connected simultaneously, but only one input may be selected at a time. There are no issues
when switching between sources. This includes a device connected via Bluetooth. Switching the source selection away from a connected device (Bluetooth) to USB or /8" / Aux and back again will not disrupt the Bluetooth connection, for example.
OWNER’S MANUAL
Bluetooth Connection
Upon powering up the CR2-X CUBE, the Bluetooth
function is either:
() In sleep mode. See ‘Pairing and connecting
for the first time’ or...
(2) ...Paired and connected. See ‘Previously paired
and connected devices’.
Pairing and connecting for the first time:
Start by changing the input selector switch to Bluetooth. The accompanying LED will illuminate and flash cyan while in pairing mode. Additionally, a voice prompt announces “Bluetooth pairing mode”. [The LED will continue to flash until it has successfully paired and connected].
While CR2-X CUBE is in pairing mode, simultaneously scan for Bluetooth devices on the device. You should see ‘CR2-X CUBE’ appear in the list of “available devices”. Select it by tapping it. From there, your Bluetooth device should indicate that it is successfully connected, a confirmation voice prompt announces, “connected” and the Bluetooth button will stop flashing and remain solid cyan. If it does not, start the pairing process again, and make sure that the CR2-X CUBE and device are both in pairing mode at the same time.
Regardless of the currently selected input, when turning it o and on again, the CR2-X CUBE will always start by trying to pair – or successfully pairing – to Bluetooth.
See the following page for instructions.
9 8
9. Volume
Tap or slide your finger in this indented volume bar to adjust the overall output level. The lef side is quieter and right side is louder. The accompanying LEDs will illuminate white to display the volume level. Tapping (or sliding to) the far lef side will mute the output. It would then be a single red LED.
Previously paired and connected devices:
The Bluetooth connection will disconnect if it’s out of range. Previously paired and connected devices will automatically reconnect when back within range. Additionally, it will automatically search and connect to remembered devices in range upon powering up.
To drop the device from being paired with the CR2-X CUBE, press and hold the Bluetooth button down for at least three seconds. A voice prompt announces
“Bluetooth disconnected”.
The Bluetooth may disconnect when aected by Electrostatic Discharge [ESD]. Manually reconnect the Bluetooth connection.
Make sure that the signal level from the mixer, MP3 player, phone (or whatever device immediately precedes the CR2-X
CUBE) is loud enough to produce sound. However, the computer’s signal and CR2-X CUBE volume levels are “tied” to each other.

Troubleshooting
No power
• Make sure the power cord is plugged all the way into
the AC outlet.
• Our favorite question: Is it plugged in? Make sure
the AC outlet is live [check with a tester or lamp].
• The internal AC line fuse may be blown. This is not a user serviceable part. If you suspect the AC line fuse is blown, please see the "Repair" section next.
No sound
• Is the level for the input source turned all the way down? Verify that all the volume controls in the system

Noise / Hum / Buzz
• Check the signal cable between the computer/mixer/ MP3 player/phone and the sure all connections are secure. These problems usually produce crackling noises, hum, or buzz.
• Make sure the signal cable is not routed near AC cables, power transformers, or other EMI sources (including wall warts and line lumps!). These sources usually produce hum.
• Is there a light dimmer or other triac-based device on the same AC circuit as the Dimmers cause buzzing noises. Use an AC line filter or plug the monitor into a dierent AC circuit.
• Excessive hiss is an indication of an incorrect gain setting somewhere before the speaker.
• If possible, listen to the signal source with headphones plugged in. If it sounds noisy there, it’s not the
CR2-X CUBE.
• Try disconnecting the cable connected to the input jack. If the noise disappears, it could be a “ground loop,” rather than a problem with the Try some of the following troubleshooting ideas:
• Use balanced connections throughout your system for the best noise rejection.
• Whenever possible, plug all the audio equipment’s line cords into outlets which share a common ground. The distance between the outlets and the common ground should be as short as possible.

Repair
• Too much bass or not enough bass? The first (and easiest) suggestion is to switch between EQ modes to see if that solves the issue. If not, move around the room and see if the bass response changes. It’s possible your listening position coincides with a room mode where the low frequencies either become exaggerated or nulled. If so, try moving the your listening position.
