Setting Up Your Recorder
Follow the steps below to complete physical setup of your recorder.
To set up your recorder:

Connect the recorder to your router using the included Ethernet cable.
Connect the included mouse to a USB port on the recorder.
Use the included power adapter to connect the recorder to a nearby outlet.

NOTES:
• The extension cable must be a single stretch of cable between the recorder and camera. You cannot connect multiple extension cables to each other.
• This guide covers connecting cameras to your security recorder only. For full instructions on installing your cameras, please refer to your camera’s documentation at lorex.com.
NOTE: To receive automatic firmware updates and enable remote viewing with computer and
mobile apps, a high speed Internet connection is required (minimum 3.5Mbps upload speed). All other system features can be used without an Internet connection.

Connect the recorder to a monitor using the included HDMI cable or a VGA cable (not included). The HDMI port supports up to 4K resolution, and VGA supports up to 1080p.

NOTE: To optimize picture quality, set the recorder’s video output to match the resolution of
your monitor.

STEP 1: Recorder Setup Wizard
Once you have completed the physical setup of your recorder,
follow the steps below to configure essential system settings.
1. LEFT-CLICK:
• During split-screen display mode: Double-click an individual channel to view it in full-screen. Double-click again to return to the split-screen display mode.
• While navigating menus: Click to open a menu option.
2. RIGHT-CLICK:
• During live view: Right-click anywhere on the screen to open the Quick Menu.
• While navigating menus: Right-click to exit menus.
3. SCROLL WHEEL:
• While navigating menus: Scroll to move up / down through the menu content.
• During live view: Hover over the volume control wheel and scroll to turn system volume up / down.
NOTE: In live view, hover the mouse cursor over the top of the screen to open the Navigation Bar.
Move the mouse cursor away from the top of the screen to close the Navigation Bar.
Reference: Using the Quick Menu
Right-click anywhere on the live viewing screen to open the Quick Menu.
a. Open Main Menu.
b. Select camera/live display view.
c. View the previous camera or page.
d. View the next camera or page.
e. Start/stop sequence mode.
f. Search and play back recordings.
g. Back up recordings to a USB flash drive (not included).
h. Control PTZ cameras (not included).

Search through and play video recordings from the hard drive.
To search for and play back recordings:
1. From live view, right-click and then click Playback.
2. Log in using the system user name (default: admin) and your new, secure password you recorded in the section ‘STEP 1: Recorder Setup Wizard’.
3. Configure the following:

a. Use the calendar on the
left-side of the screen to select the date to playback.
b. Select Continuous or
Motion under the Playback Type dropdown. Check the
channels you would like to search for recordings from, then click
.
c. Double-click any thumbnail
to begin playback.
Now that you have set up your recorder, see the following
reference sections to learn more about using your system.
Back up recordings from the hard drive to a USB flash drive (not included).
To back up recordings:
1. Insert a USB flash drive (not included) into a free USB port on the recorder.
2. From live view, right-click and then click Backup.
3. Log in using the system user name (default: admin) and your new, secure password.
4. Configure the following:

a. Select the date and start/end
time for your search.
b. Select the channel and type
of recording to search for, or select All to show all recording types on any channel.
c. Click Search.
NOTE: Click Quick Backup to
save all recordings that match the search.
d. Check recordings you want to
back up.
e. Click Backup.

To quickly open a window that displays vital system information such as device ID, firmware version, and IP address:
• From live view, click
at the bottom of the screen.
• Press
on the included remote control.
NOTE: If prompted, enter the system user name (default: admin) and your new, secure
password recorded in the section ‘STEP 1: Recorder Setup Wizard’.

1. Enter a new, secure 8-15 character password, which will be used to access the system from now on.
When you power up the recorder for the first time, you will be asked to create a new, secure password for the system before using the Setup Wizard:

2. Log in using your new, secure password to launch the Setup Wizard. Click Next to begin.
3. Click the arrow keys to select a language for the on-screen display. Click Next to confirm.
4. Click the arrow keys to select your region. Click Next to confirm.
5. Enter the date and time:
Click to select the correct date from the calendar.
Click to enter time using the on­screen keyboard.
Select a date format from the dropdown.
Select a time format from the dropdown. For 12Hour format, select either AM or PM from the second dropdown.
Click Next to confirm.
STEP 2: Firmware Update
This system features automatic firmware upgrades for enhanced functionality. It is
required to upgrade your system to the latest firmware version.
To upgrade firmware:
1. After startup, a notification will appear asking you to upgrade the firmware if a
newer version is available. Click OK to upgrade.
2. The system will download and install the firmware upgrade. Wait for the firmware
update to complete. The system may restart during the firmware upgrade process.
IMPORTANT: Do not power off the recorder or disconnect the power cable during
firmware installation.
6. Review the information you have set for the recorder. To confirm, click Accept.

5. Select a file format for your backed up files, then click Save.
6. Select an area on the USB flash drive to save the backup files, then click OK.
