Taking care of the environment is a priority for Lexus. We take many measures to ensure
that during the life cycles of our vehicles – from design, production, distribution, sales and
service to end-of-life – their environmental impact is minimised. Your retailer will be happy

“The IS F is incredibly fun to drive and I’ll challenge anyone to drive it and
not start smiling. It’s designed to allow drivers to safely realise their passion for
high-performance driving, whether for circuit racing or in everyday use.”
YUKIHIKO YAGUCHI, IS F CHIEF ENGINEER
It all began when a small
group of Lexus engineers,
all passionate motorsport
enthusiasts, started
discussing an idea for a
new high-performance
Lexus.
On the racetrack its performance would
push back frontiers. Yet on public roads
it could be driven as smoothly and
comfortably as every other Lexus. Inspired
by this idea, and led by Chief Engineer
Yukihiko Yaguchi, the team worked
autonomously from all other major Lexus
development programmes. By 2003 they
were able to present the IS F prototype for
examination by Lexus senior management.
Based on the award-winning IS sports
sedan, it was equipped with a powerful
5.0-litre V8 engine, state-of-the-art
8-
speed Sport Direct Shift (SPDS)
automatic
transmission, a race-tuned
suspension and
extremely powerful brakes.
The car’s
technological innovations,
stunning performance and exciting
handling
characteristics generated so
much
enthusiasm at Lexus that the project
was given the green light and the Lexus
IS F was born.
THE IS F STORY.
“F” is the new designation reserved for
Lexus cars of ultra-high performance, of
which the IS F is the first. “F” stands for
“Fuji Speedway” where the IS F was
developed and tested.
Situated in the foothills of Mount Fuji in
Japan’s Shizuoka Prefecture, Fuji Speedway
first opened as a road course in 1966.
In 1976 the track hosted the first Formula
One event ever held in Japan. In September
2007, after a major reconfiguration, Fuji
Speedway once again hosted the Japanese
Grand Prix. The circuit includes the longest
straight (1.5 km) in the Formula One
season, where extremely high speeds
can be attained.
To recognise the important role of the Fuji
Speedway in the IS F project, the new “F”
logo integrates the most demanding corners
from the racetrack in its design.

POISED TO PERFORM.
In developing the new IS F, Lexus engineers pursued phenomenal
high-speed performance, delivered through a formidable package
of advanced racetrack technology. It’s evident even when the car
is at rest. Advanced aerodynamics are there to minimise wind
resistance, allowing high-speed track performance right up to
270 km/h. For maximum “ground effect”, F1-inspired composite
underbody fairings suck the car down onto the track to enhance
traction. Massive air intakes cool the powerful V8 engine, while
side air outlet gills help remove heat from the engine bay. At the
rear, quadruple trapezoidal exhaust pipes ensure rapid dissipation
of exhaust gases and enhance engine breathing.

SCULPTED FOR SPEED.
Its looks are muscular, and every contour has been shaped with
speed in mind. The bodywork of the IS F was fine-tuned following
extensive wind tunnel research and testing on racetracks around
the world. The result is a car that generates the optimum downforce
without compromising its highly competitive drag coefficient,
offering exhilarating performance both on and off the track.
Though speed combined with exceptional handling was our goal,
the process of aerodynamic refinement has produced a car of
strong lines and arresting beauty. To enhance these looks, and
because it is in our nature to pursue perfection, the car is given
a deep and lustrous shine by master craftspeople who twice
wet sand the bodywork by hand.

POWERFUL, REFINED
AND EFFICIENT.
A SHORT SUMMARY
OF OUR V8 ENGINE.
In Japan, gifts of great importance and value are presented in
special envelopes. The V8 engine cover of the new IS F is modelled
on such an envelope. Beneath the V8 engine cover of the new
IS F is an exemplary expression of Lexus race engineering skills:
a new 5.0-litre engine of massive power that incorporates many
new high-performance engine technologies.
