Paper jam J31/J4X due to wrapped paper around the primary

Phenomena The paper may be wrapped around the Primary transfer belt after the primary transfer process.
Under this condition paper jam J31 (Misfeed around the transfer belt) or paper jam J4X
(Misfeed in the fuser section: X is the paper feeding source number) may be displayed
depending on the properties of the paper (Weak stiffness, Upward curl, Thinness).
Paper jam details Paper jam J31 will be displayed when the leading edge of the paper is wrapped around the
primary transfer belt.
Paper jam J4X will be displayed when the folded paper is wrapped around the Primary transfer
belt with the separation failure in the middle section of the paper while the leading edge of the
paper enters into the front of the fuser section. (Refer to page 2 for the examples of the above
mentioned paper jams)
Depending on the paper wrapping condition, the paper jam indication may disappear by opening
or closing the cover (Even if the paper is not removed). In case the drive continues under this
condition, the paper may enter the inner part of the Primary transfer belt and then the cleaning
failure at the Primary transfer belt may occur.
Solution To prevent the above mentioned paper jams and the wrapping of the paper around the Primary
transfer belt, the paper separation lms have been afxed between the guide pulleys at the
left side of the Primary transfer belt.
The paper separation lm (2 sheets of the lm guide belt A and 2 sheets of the lm guide
belt B or 3 sheets of the lm guide belt B) and the instruction leaet (A/B) have been bundled
with the service part Primary transfer belt unit and the MK kit A.

Entire stock rework
separation lm after cleaning the surface under it with cleaning alcohol. Check afterwards that the
paper separation lm does not make contact the primary transfer belt.

due to the added paper separation lm (Film guide A/B) prevents paper from
wrapping around the primary transfer belt..
