IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
When using the electrical appliances, basic safety precautions
should be always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric
shock, and/or injury to persons including the following:
1. Read all instructions.
2. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
3. To protect against fire, electric shock and injury to persons, do
not place cord, plugs or appliance in water or other liquid.
4. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or
near children.
5. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow
to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before
cleaning the appliance.
6. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or
after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any
manner. Return appliance to the nearest KRUPSService Center
for examination, repair or adjustment.
7. The use of accessory attachments not recommended by KRUPS
may result in fire, electric shock or injury to persons.
8. Do not use outdoors.
9. Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch
hot surfaces.
10. Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a
heated oven.
11. Todisconnect, turn any control to «off» then remove plug from
wall outlet.
12. Do not use the appliance for other than intended use.
13. Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during the brewing
cycles.
14. Do not pour liquids other than water and descaling solutions
specified in this manual into the water tank.
15. Do not pour cold water into the water reservoir immediately
after brewing. Allow the unit to cool down before refilling the
reservoir.

Toreduce the risk of injury, do not drape cord over the counter top
or table top where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over
unintentionally.

SHORTCORD INSTRUCTIONS
A. We do not recommend using an extension cord with this device.
B. If an extension cord is used,
1)the marked electrical rating of the extension cord should be
at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance,
2) the longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape
over the counter top or table top where it can be pulled on by
children or tripped over.
C. This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than
other). To reduce risks of electric shock, this plug is intended to
fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit
fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit,
contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the
plug in any way.

. Check that the power rating of your
appliance does match that of your
household electrical wiring system.
. Always place the jug in a stable position on
the appliance to avoid spillage.
.The appliance must be connected to a
main outlet.
Any error in connection will render the
guarantee null and void.
.Never unplug the appliance from the
socket by pulling on the cable.
. Any intervention other than cleaning and
normal maintenance by the customer must
be carried out by an approved KRUPSservice
center.
. Never immerse the appliance, the cable or
plug In water or any liquid.
. Neveropen the filter-holder while the coffee
isflowing.
. Do not usethe coffee maker without the
water tank lid.
. Do not place or use the appliance or the
thermos Jugon hot surfaces(cooker rings,
etc.). Do not place the jug in a microwave
oven.
. High temperatures are generated during use
wich could causeburns. Always usethe Jug
handle and warn other usersof the possible
dangers (e.g. irregular emission of hot
water)
. Do not exceed the max. filling level.
. Krups acceptsno liability for damage caused
by improper useor operation of the coffee
maker.
.. Put a paper filter into the filter-holder or use
a permanent nylon filter or gold filter.
. Carry out the brewing procedure twice with
just clean water, waiting about 5 minutes
between each operation for the coffee-
maker to cool down.
Follow the illustrations 1 to 5.
. Fillthe water tank (illustration 1)
.Open the filter basket (illustration 2)
.Add ground coffee (illustration 3).
. Placethe carafe on its base (illustration 4).
. Turnthe appliance «on» (illustration 5).
. 15 minutes after being started, the coffee-
maker will stop automatically. The light will
go off. Tostop in the middle of the cycle,
unplug the supply cord.

.Caution!
Do not put hard objects in the jug as they
could damage the inside.
Follow illustrations 8 to 11.
Do not use powerful cleaning or scouring
agents.
.Disconnect the coffee-maker and leave it to
cool.
. Cleanthe coffee-maker with a soft, mOist
cloth.
. Clean the inside of the Jugcarefully with a
soft brush and rinse with fresh water.
. You can remove the inner filter-holder
(illustration 9, 9 bis (depending on
model)) You can clean the filter-holder in
the dishwasher

.Descale your coffee-maker about once a
month.
.If you use descaling powder or liquid, follow
the instructions provided by the manufactu-
rer on the packet.
.If you Use clear vinegar: mix 2 cupfuls of
vinegar with 2 cupfuls of water.
.Pour the cold descaling solution into the
tank, fit a paper filter or the permanent filter
in the filter-holder and place the Jug with its
lid fitted in the coffee-maker. Start the
coffee-maker.
.Stop the appliance once half the solution
has run through and leave for about an
hour. Start the coffee-maker again and let
the rest of the solution run through.
.After descaling, the appliance must be
operated at least 2 or 3 times with fresh
water to rinse.
.Our guarantee does not cover coffee
machines that are working badly or not
at all through not being descaled.
.Keeping hot
Pre-heat the jug for a few minutes with hot
water, then pour off the hot water. Do not
use itfor soups or other hot preparations.
