There are two ways to scan documents or Cards using the IRIScan. You can scan with either the buttons on
the scanner or from within the supplied programs. You will need to choose one or the other as only one can
operate at a time.
1. Use the button manager which is loaded at startup. Click on the icon on the dock and go to Preferences
where you will see this screen. You can configure the right button to send to Readiris where you will be able
to process the image to the desired format. If you decide you do not want the button manager go to System
Preferences > Accounts > Startup items and remove.

2. Scan from within the Readiris/Cardiris software. You would go to the Preferences in the respective
programs and set the scanner as pictured. Then within the software set the options as picture and click on
Acquire in Readiris or Scan and Create in Cardiris 4. In Cardiris 3 you will need to use the buttons on the
scanner to send the cards to the software.
General Usage
To scan photos configure the buttons on the scanner to save to a file.
When scanning documents to store on your computer or to edit and change use the Readiris software.
Scan business cards to the Cardiris software to process and send to a contact manager such as Address
Book or Entourage.
To calibrate the scanner go to the Button Manager Preferences.

Readiris is an OCR software that will allow you to convert the scanned images of documents to text and edit
and change the information in a word processor like Microsoft Word or Pages. You can also convert
spreadsheets to excel or simply convert to a pdf file with or without the converted text.
When an image is scanned to the
program Readiris analyzes the image
and places numbered and labeled
boxes over various sections of the
document to tell you what it intends
to do with those areas
These boxes can be manipulated if
necessary by CTRL + Clicking or using
the Zones tool on the upper toolbar.
These are the basic steps of using the software.
• Scan or open a file
• Go to Settings > Text Format and select the output
format and options
• Click on Recognize + Save to process

Use the button manager to scan the cards to the application.
When the Card arrives in Cardiris it will automatically extract the information and allow you make any
necessary corrections. Go to Settings > Output Format to bring up the Business Cards dialog.
For Address Book set as pictured to the bottom left, with the option to save a vCard file when the Ask file
name and location is checked.
Click Ok and then on the Send button in the main screen to send the information to the Address Book.
Change the format to send to other applications.

With this version scan the card(s) into the program and click on Save All or Save Selection for all or selected
card. It saves right to the address book. Configure in preferences and then click on Scan and Create
