1.1Introduction

Thisusermanualcontainsimportantinformationaboutthehandling oftheproduct.Inordertoensuresafetywhenusingtheproduct, readtheusermanualcarefullyandfollowthesafetyinstructions.

Pleasenotethattheremaybesectionsinthisusermanual,whichare notrelevanttoyourproduct,sincethismanualappliestoallexisting modules(onthedateofprinting).

1.3Typeclassification

ThisvehiclehasbeenclassifiedaccordingtoEN12184asaclassB mobilityproduct(forindoorandoutdoorareas).Itistherefore

compactandagileenoughforindoorareas,butalsoabletoovercome manyobstaclesinoutdoorareas.

1.4Intendeduse

Thismobilitydevicewasdesignedforpersonswhoseabilitytowalk isimpaired,butwhoarestillintermsoftheireyesightandphysically andmentallyabletooperateanelectricmobilitydevice.

1.5Regulations

ThevehiclewassuccessfullytestedaccordingtoGermanand internationalstandardsastoitssafety.Itsatisfiestherequirements accordingtoRoHS2011/65/EU,REACH1907/2006/ECandDIN EN12184includingEN1021-2andISO7176–14.Itwasalsotested successfullyaccordingtoEN60529IPX4astoitsresistancetospray water,andisthereforewellsuitedforweatherconditionssuch astypicalEuropeanweatherconditions.Whenequippedwithan appropriatelightingsystem,thevehicleissuitableforuseonpublic roads.

1.6Indications

Theuseofthispowerwheelchairisrecommendedforthefollowing indications:

•Theinabilityoragreatlyrestrictedabilitytowalkwithinthe

scopeofthebasicrequirementtobeabletomovewithinone’s ownfourwalls.

•Theneedtoleavethedwellingplaceinordertogetsomefresh

airduringashortwalkortoreachthoseplacesgenerallyto befoundatclosedistancetothedwellingandwhereeveryday businessiscarriedout.

Provisionofpowerwheelchairsforinteriorandexteriorareas isadvisableiftheuseofhand-operatedwheelchairsisnolonger possibleonaccountofthedisability,yetproperoperationofan electromotivedriveunitisstillpracticable.

1.7Usability

Onlyuseamobilitydevicewhenitisinperfectworkingorder. Otherwise,youmightputyourselfandothersatrisk.

Thefollowinglistdoesnotclaimtobeexhaustive.Itisonlyintended toshowsomeofthesituationsthatcouldaffecttheusabilityofyour mobilitydevice.

Incertainsituations,youshouldimmediatelystopusingyourmobility device.Othersituationsallowyoutousethemobilitydevicetoget toyourdealer.

Youshouldimmediatelystopusingyourmobility deviceifitsusabilityisrestricteddueto:

•brakefailure

Youshouldimmediatelycontactanauthorized Invacaredealeriftheusabilityofyourmobilitydevice isrestricteddueto:

•thelightingsystem(iffitted)failingorbeingdefective

•reflectorsfallingoff

•wornthreadorinsufficienttirepressure

•damagetothearmrests(e.g.tornarmrestpadding)

•damagetothelegresthangers(e.g.missingortornheelstraps)

•damagetotheposturalbelt

•damagetothejoystick(joystickcannotbemovedintothe

neutralposition)

•cablesthataredamaged,kinked,pinchedorhavecomeloose

fromthefixation

•themobilitydevicedriftingwhenbraking

•themobilitydevicepullingtoonesidewhenmoving

•unusualsoundsdevelopingoroccurring

Thetermsandconditionsofthewarrantyarepartofthegeneral termsandconditionsparticulartotheindividualcountriesinwhich thisproductissold.

1.9Servicelife

Weestimateaservicelifeoffiveyearsforthisproduct,providedit isusedinstrictaccordancewiththeintendeduseassetoutinthis documentandallmaintenanceandservicerequirementsaremet. Theestimatedservicelifecanbeexceedediftheproductiscarefully usedandproperlymaintained,andprovidedtechnicalandscientific advancesdonotresultintechnicallimitations.Theservicelifecan alsobeconsiderablyreducedbyextremeorincorrectusage.Thefact thatweestimateaservicelifeforthisproductdoesnotconstitutean additionalwarranty.

–Neverdrivethemobilitydeviceundertheinfluence

ofmedicationoralcohol.Ifnecessary,themobility devicemustbeoperatedbyanattendantwhois physicallyandmentallyable.

–Switchthemobilitydeviceoffbeforeyougetin,get

outorhandleunwieldyobjects.

–Whenthedriveisdisengaged,thebrakeinsidethe

driveisdeactivated.Forthisreason,pushingthe mobilitydevicebyanattendantisonlyrecommended onflatsurfaces,neverongradients.Neverleave yourmobilitydeviceonagradientwithitsmotors disengaged.Alwaysre-engagethemotorsimmediately afterpushingthemobilitydevice(refertoPushingthe mobilitydeviceinfreewheelmode).

),thenyoumustusea winch.Anattendantcansafelymonitorandassistthe loadingprocess.

–Asanalternativeyoucanuseaplatformlift.Ensure

thatthetotalweightofthemobilitydeviceincluding theuserdoesnotexceedthemaximumpermissible weightfortheplatformliftorwinchifyouareusing.

Afailureintheelectricsystemcanleadtounusual behaviorsuchascontinuouslight,nolight,ornoises fromthemagneticbrakes.

–Ifafailureexists,switchofftheremoteandswitch

itonagain.

–Ifafailurestillexists,thendisconnectorremovethe

powersource.Dependingonthemobilitydevice model,youcaneitherremovethebatterypacksor disconnectthebatteriesfromthepowermodule.Ifin doubtwhichcabletodisconnect,contactyourdealer.

–Inanycase,contactyourdealer.

2.3Safetyinformationonelectromagnetic interference

Thiselectricvehiclewassuccessfullytestedinaccordancewith InternationalstandardsastoitscompliancewithElectromagnetic Interference(EMI)regulations.However,electromagneticfields, suchasthosegeneratedbyradioandtelevisiontransmitters,and cellularphonescaninfluencethefunctionsofelectricvehicles.Also, theelectronicsusedinourvehiclescangeneratealowlevelof electromagneticinterference,whichhoweverwillremainwithinthe tolerancepermittedbylaw.Forthesereasonsweaskyoutoplease observethefollowingprecautions:

–Donotswitchonoroperateportabletransceiversor

communicationdevices(suchasradiotransceiversor cellularphones)whenthevehicleisswitchedon.

–Avoidgettingnearstrongradioandtelevision

transmitters.

–Incasethevehicleshouldbesetinmotion

unintentionallyorthebrakesarereleased,switchit offimmediately.

–Addingelectricalaccessoriesandothercomponents

ormodifyingthevehicleinanywaycanmakeit susceptibletoelectromagneticinterference.Keepin mindthatthereisnosurewaytodeterminetheeffect suchmodificationswillhaveontheoverallimmunity oftheelectronicsystem.

–Reportalloccurrencesofunintentionalmovementof

thevehicle,orreleaseoftheelectricbrakestothe manufacturer.

2.4Safetyinformationondrivingandfreewheel mode

–Alwaysreturnthebackrestofyourseatortheseat

tilttoanuprightpositionbeforeascendingslopes. Werecommendthatyoupositiontheseatbackrest andtheseattilt(iffitted)slightlytotherearbefore descendingslopes.

–Onlyeverdrivedownhillatamaximumof2/3ofthe

topspeed.Avoidabruptbrakingoracceleratingon gradients.

–Ifatallpossible,avoiddrivingonwet,slippery,icy,or

oilysurfaces(suchassnow,gravel,iceetc.)where thereisariskofyoulosingcontroloverthevehicle, especiallyonagradient.Thismayincludecertain paintedorotherwisetreatedwoodsurfaces.Ifdriving onsuchasurfaceisinevitable,thenalwaysdriveslowly andwiththeutmostcaution.

–Neverattempttoovercomeanobstaclewhenonan

uphillordownhillgradient.

–Neverattempttodriveupordownaflightofsteps

withyourmobilitydevice.

–Whenovercomingobstacles,alwaysobservethe

–Avoidshiftingyourcenterofgravityaswellasabrupt

4.1Posturalbelts

Aposturalbeltisanoptionwhichcaneitherbefixedtothemobility deviceex-worksorcanberetrofittedbyyourspecialistdealer.If yourmobilitydeviceisfittedwithaposturalbelt,yourspecialist dealerwillhaveinformedyouaboutfittingandusage.

Theposturalbeltisusedtohelpthemobilitydeviceuserkeepan optimumsittingposition.Correctuseofthebeltassiststheuser insittingsecurely,comfortablyandwell-positionedinthemobility device,especiallyforsuchuserswhodonothavesuchagoodsense ofbalancewhilesitting.

Werecommendusingtheposturalbeltwheneverthe mobilitydeviceisused.Thebeltshouldbetightenoughto ensurethatyouaresittingcomfortablyandthatyourbodyis inthecorrectsittingposition.

4.1.1Typesofposturalbelts

4.1.2Adjustingtheposturalbeltcorrectly

1.Ensurethatyouaresittingcorrectly,whichmeansthatyouare sittingrightatthebackoftheseat,yourpelvisispositionederect andassymmetricallyaspossible,nottothefront,tothesideor atoneedgeoftheseat.

2.Positiontheposturalbeltsothatyourhipbonescanbeeasily feltabovethebelt.

3.Adjustthebeltlengthusingoneoftheadjustmentaidsdescribed above.Thebeltshouldbeadjustedsothatyoucanfitaflathand betweenthebeltandyourbody.

4.Thebuckleshouldbepositionedascentrallyaspossible.Indoing so,carryoutadjustmentsonbothsidesasmuchaspossible.

5.Checkyourbelteveryweektoensurethatitisstillingood workingcondition,toensureithasnodamageorwear,and thatitisfixedproperlytothemobilitydevice.Ifthebelt isonlyfastenedwithaboltedconnection,ensurethatthe connectionhasnotloosenedorcomeundone.Youcanfind moreinformationaboutmaintenanceworkonbeltsinthe servicemanual,whichisavailablefromInvacare.
