RF Sniffer Installation Instructions
Product summary
The RF Sniffer (60-401) is a portable diagnostic tool used to
assist installers during installations and service technicians
when troubleshooting a system. Since radio waves cannot be
seen, the RF Sniffer provides audible indication of sensor
transmission. The installer or service technician can use the
RF Sniffer to determine if a wireless sensor is transmitting.
How it works
The RF Sniffer listens for transmission from Interlogix wireless
sensors and emits a low tone when it detects the presence of
the Interlogix carrier frequency. These tones represent rounds
of sensor information transmitted by the sensor. Each round
(or beep) contains a data stream of information.
How to use it
Simply hold the RF Sniffer within 15 cm of the transmitter in
question, then trip the transmitter and count the beeps from the
RF Sniffer.
Note: The RF Sniffer is a short range device and should not be
used in place of a sensor test. Use the RF Sniffer only to verify
that sensors are transmitting. Do not use it to determine
transmitting range, which is dependent on the panel receiver
and the installation environment.

Using the RF sniffer for troubleshooting
A good example for troubleshooting with the RF Sniffer is to
use it to check a sensor if the system protests when arming.
Use the RF Sniffer to verify that the sensor protested by the
system is transmitting a restore signal.
Replacing and disposing of lithium
batteries
The RF Sniffer is powered by one 3.6 VDC, 1/2 AA lithium
battery. When the beep volume diminishes, replace the battery
immediately.
Caution: Replace only with SAFT LS14250 battery. Observe
polarity when installing a new battery. Installing the battery
backwards may cause damage to the sensor. Dispose of
unused batteries according to the manufacturers instructions
and/or local government authorities.
