system to use Truevision’s Targa 2000 DTX or Targa 2000 RTX expansion board.

Using the Intergraph Bulletin Board Service
Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the Intergraph Bulletin Board Service (IBBS) is an electronic forum for Intergraph customers to exchange information with Intergraph's technical and marketing staff, and with other Intergraph customers. You can use the IBBS to get technical support information, documentation and training information, programs, and software updates and fixes. The IBBS is also available for you to give suggestions, make inquiries, and report problems.

To connect to the IBBS:
1. Set your system’s communications protocol for eight (8) data bits, no parity, one (1) stop bit, and any baud rate up to 14,400.
2. Using a modem, dial the IBBS number, 1-205-730-8786. You can dial 1-205-730-6504 if you are using a 2,400 baud connection.
3. Mirror sites are maintained for locations outside the United States. Information on these sites is available on Intergraph Online, Intergraph’s World Wide Web server.
4. When connected, respond to the login request by keying in your user ID. If you have not connected before, key in new to create a user ID.
5. Follow the menus to find what you need. If you are new to computer bulletin boards, the IBBS provides clear choices and plenty of online help. A text file that explains IBBS commands and organization is available for you to download.
If you have trouble connecting to or using the IBBS, log a support request through the Customer Response Center (product entry IBBS), send a fax to 1-205-730-1110, or leave a message for the System Operator (Sysop) at 1-205-730-1413.
Using the Intergraph FAXLink

1 Getting Started
Follow the instructions in this chapter to prepare to install a Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board in an Intergraph TD-325 or TD-425 system.
Setting Up System Hardware and Software
Set up the TD-325 or TD-425 hardware and system software as described in the Intergraph documentation delivered with the system.
Make sure the Windows NT Workstation 4.0 operating system software is installed and running on the TD-325 or TD-425. This TD-325 or TD-425 system configuration is offered only on Windows NT Workstation 4.0. Targa 2000 software has not been tested by Intergraph Computer Systems on TD-325 or TD-425 systems running Windows NT Workstation 3.51.

Taking Antistatic Precautions
You will be opening the system to remove and install expansion boards. Some components in a system can be damaged by static electricity. To minimize the possibility of damage, take the following steps:
u
Turn off power to the system.
u
Leave the power cord connected to the system and to the AC outlet to maintain ground.
u
Touch the metal chassis to drain off any static electricity.
u
Wear a properly connected grounding wrist strap. Make sure the wrist strap is connected properly to the system and contacts bare skin on your wrist.
u
Do not wear wool or polyester clothing.
u
Work in an area with a relative humidity of at least 50 percent.
u
Work on an antistatic surface.

Refer to the Intergraph documentation delivered with the TD-325 or TD-425 for information
on opening and closing the system’s base unit, using the BIOS Setup program, and adding expansion boards to the system.
Refer to the Truevision documentation delivered with the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board for detailed installation and configuration instructions.
Refer to the operating system documentation and Help for information on Windows NT administrative tasks such as adding and removing hardware, drivers, and network support, and creating a disk drive stripe set.
2 Installing a Targa 2000 RTX/DTX
in a TD-325
Follow the instructions in this chapter to install and configure a Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board in an Intergraph TD-325 deskside system.
CAUTION Follow these instructions in the order in which they are presented.
These instructions assume the TD-325:
u
Is a deskside system.
u
Is running the Windows NT Workstation 4.0 operating system. (At minimum, use Service Pack 1; Service Pack 3 is preferred.)

Has an installed G95 graphics board.
u
Has an on-board network adapter.
To configure the system, you will do the following:
1. Install the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board.
2. Change Interrupt Requests (IRQ) settings in the basic input/output system (BIOS).
3. Disable system sounds.
4. Install the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX drivers.
5. Verify the IRQ settings.
6. Create a disk drive stripe set.
7. Install and configure the appropriate video editing software.
These steps are detailed in following sections.

Install the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX Board
See the online System Reference delivered with the TD-325 for information on installing option boards in the system. Intergraph recommends that a card extender is installed on the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board.
To install the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board:
1. Shut down Windows NT and turn off power to the system.
2. Install the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board in expansion board slot 2 (the second PCI slot).
Change IRQ Settings
To avoid any Interrupt Request (IRQ) conflicts after installing the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board and drivers, you must change certain IRQ settings.
To change the IRQ settings:
1. Turn on power to the system.
2. When prompted, press

Change the slot 3/Ethernet IRQ setting to 15.
Change the slot 4/SCSI IRQ setting to 10.
Change the slot 2/6 IRQ setting to 11.

Disable System Sounds
The Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board has on-board sound, so you must disable the Windows NT system sounds on the TD-325 to avoid audio conflicts.
To disable system sounds:

3. Double-click Sounds. The Sound Properties dialog displays.
4. Under Schemes, click No Sounds.

6. Click OK to exit the Sound Properties dialog.
Install the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX Drivers
The Targa 2000 RTX/DTX drivers must be installed for the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board to work correctly in the TD-325. You may install the drivers from diskettes delivered with the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board, or from the Truevision World Wide Web site.
To install the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX driver software:
1. Insert the Targa 2000 driver setup diskette in the system’s floppy disk drive.

2. In Explorer or File Manager, double-click
3. Follow the prompts of the installation wizard to install the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX software. See the documentation delivered with the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board for information on installing the driver software.
NOTE When the installation wizard prompts you to select the product type, click Targa 2000
RTX/DTX.
4. Click Yes when prompted to restart the system.
5. Allow the system to start, and then log on to Windows NT using an account with Administrator privileges.
SETUP.EXE on the diskette.
Verify the IRQ Settings
After installing the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board and software, check and note the IRQ settings of the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX driver, SCSI controller(s), and the Ethernet driver for future reference, if needed.
To view the current IRQ settings:
1. On the Start menu, click Programs/Administrative Tools/Windows NT Diagnostics to open the Windows NT Diagnostics dialog.
2. Click Resources (tab), and then click IRQ to display the current IRQ settings.

3. Verify the following:
The Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board driver (
Both PCI SCSI controllers (
The Ethernet driver (
E100B) driver is using IRQ 15.
AIC78XX) are using IRQ 10.

4. Click OK to close the Windows NT Diagnostics dialog.
Create a Disk Drive Stripe Set
To ensure optimal performance, you should create a stripe set that includes some of the disk drives in the system. Creating a stripe set splits the data from a single file or database onto several disk drives, permitting multiple simultaneous accesses to the data.
CAUTION Before you attempt to create a disk drive stripe set, see the Disk Administrator Help for more
detailed information on creating and using a stripe set.
To create a disk drive stripe set:
1. From the Start menu, select Programs/Administrative Tools/Disk Administrator to run Disk Administrator.
2. Select the first area of free space on the first disk; then press additional area of free space on each of the other disks you want to add to the stripe set.

4. Type the size of the stripe set you want to create, and then select OK.
5. From the Partition menu, select Commit Changes Now.
6. Select Restart Now if prompted to reboot. The system must be restarted before the disk formatting can be done. Skip steps 7 and 8 if you do not have to reboot.
7. Allow the system to start, and log onto Windows NT using an account with Administrator privileges.
8. From the Start menu, select Programs/Administrative Tools/Disk Administrator to run Disk Administrator.
9. Select the drive. From the Tools menu, select Format to display the Format dialog.
10. Select Quick Format. Selecting this option automatically specifies NTFS as the file system type and starts the formatting.
11. When formatting is complete, select OK.
12. Select Close to close the Format dialog.
13. From the Partition menu, select Exit.
After creating the stripe set, you should save the disk configuration information for future use (for example, if you have to reinstall the operating system). See the Disk Administrator Help for instructions on saving and restoring the disk configuration information.
Install and Configure Video Editing Software
Once you create a stripe set, the TD-325 is prepared for the installation of video editing software, such as MCXpress. See the documentation delivered with the video editing software for installation and configuration information.
NOTE When you start MCXpress, you will see the following message:
Truevision Driver: The Driver Rev 2.1 may be incompatible with MCXpress.

This does not affect the performance of MCXpress.

3 Installing a Targa 2000 RTX/DTX
in a TD-425
Follow the instructions in this chapter to install and configure a Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board in an Intergraph TD-425 deskside system.
CAUTION Follow these instructions in the order in which they are presented.
These instructions assume the TD-425:
u
Is a deskside system.
u
Is running the Windows NT Workstation 4.0 operating system. (At minimum, use Service Pack 1; Service Pack 3 is preferred.)

Has an installed Matrox Millenium graphics board.
u
Has an on-board network adapter.
To configure the system, you will do the following:
1. In the system’s basic input/output system (BIOS), disable on-board audio and free
Interrupt Requests (IRQ) settings.
2. Install or reinstall the Matrox Millenium graphics adapters (G95) in the appropriate PCI slots.
3. Install the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board.
4. Install SCSI controllers.
5. Disable system sounds.
6. Select task priorities.
7. Disable full window dragging.
8. Configure virtual memory settings.
9. Install the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX drivers.
10. Verify the IRQ settings.
11. Create a disk drive stripe set.
12. Install and configure the appropriate video editing software.
These steps are detailed in following sections.

Disable On-Board Audio and Free IRQ Settings
To avoid any audio and Interrupt Request (IRQ) conflicts after installing the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board and drivers, you must disable the on-board audio and certain IRQ settings.
To disable on-board audio and to free IRQ settings:
1. Turn on power to the system.
2. When prompted, press
3. In the BIOS Setup program, under Chipset, make the following changes to the BIOS parameter settings in the order given:
Set H/W Monitor to Disabled.
Set Onboard Sound Controller to Disabled.
Set USB Function to Disabled.
Set External SCSI Controller to Disabled.
4. In the BIOS Setup program, under PCI/PNP Options, make the following changes to the BIOS parameter settings in the order given:
Set Allocate IRQ to PCI VGA to No.
Set PCI Slots 1 and 5 IRQ Priority to 10.
Set PCI Slots 2 and 6 IRQ Priority to 11.
Set PCI Slots 3 / Network IRQ Priority to Auto.
Set PCI Slots 4 / SCSI IRQ Priority to 9.
5. In the BIOS Setup program, under Exit, select Exit Saving Changes (or press
DELETE to start the BIOS Setup program.

Install or Reinstall the Graphics Adapters
If you want to prepare your dual-monitor TD-425 to use dual streams, follow the procedures in this section. If your TD-425 does not have dual monitors or you do not want to use dual streams, you may skip this section.
In this procedure, you will remove the installed Matrox Millenium (G95) graphics adapter, place it in the specified slot, and install the Marvel Millenium graphics adapter (Matrox Millenium graphics adapter with the Media XL option) in the specified slot.
See the online System Reference delivered with the TD-425 for information on installing option boards in the system.
To remove or move the installed graphics adapters:
1. Shut down Windows NT and turn off power to the system.
2. Remove the Matrox Millenium (G95) graphics adapter installed in the system, unless it is already installed in PCI expansion slot 3 (the third PCI slot).
3. Reinstall the Matrox Millenium graphics adapter in PCI expansion slot 3 (the third PCI slot).
4. Install the Marvel Millenium graphics adapter in PCI expansion slot 5 (the fifth PCI slot).
Install the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX Board

Install the Truevision Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board in PCI expansion slot 2 (the second PCI slot). See the online System Reference delivered with the TD-425 for information on installing option boards in the system. Intergraph recommends that the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board have an installed card extender.
To install the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board:
1. Shut down Windows NT, and turn off power to the system.
2. Install the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board in expansion board slot 2 (the second PCI slot).
Install SCSI Controllers
See the online System Reference delivered with the TD-425 for information on installing option boards in the system. Refer to the documentation delivered with the SCSI controllers for information on connecting SCSI devices to them.
To install SCSI controllers:
1. Install the SCSI controller in slot 4 (the fourth PCI slot)
2. If a second SCSI controller is to be used, install it in slot 1 (the first PCI slot).
NOTE The TD-425 has an integrated Adaptec 7880UW SCSI controller installed on the system
board. The Adaptec 7880UW SCSI controller can be used instead of installing an additional SCSI controller.
3. Connect the internal SCSI cable, if present, to the SCSI controllers.

4. Connect external SCSI devices, if present, to the SCSI controllers.
5. Turn on power to the system, allow the system to restart, and log on to Windows NT 4.0 using an account with Administrator privileges.
6. Ensure that the SCSI configuration is properly terminated by using the correct SCSI terminator.
7. If you plan to install D-Vision Online 3.0 software, use the D-Vision Online 3.0 Software Installation Guide to configure the SCSI drive setup to work correctly with D­Vision Online 3.0.
Disable System Sounds
Since the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board has on-board sound, you must disable the Windows NT system sounds on the TD-425 to avoid audio conflicts.
To disable system sounds:
1. On the Start menu, click Settings/Control Panel. The Windows NT Control Panel displays.
2. Double-click Sounds. The Sound Properties dialog displays.
3. Under Schemes, click No Sounds.
4. Click No when asked to save the sound scheme. The words No Sounds displays in the Schemes list box.
5. Click OK to exit the Sound Properties dialog.
Select Task Priorities
To avoid interference when using video capture software, you must select the task priorities. Selecting task priorities ensures that other tasks will not disrupt your video capture sessions.
To select foreground and background task priorities:
1. On the Start menu, click Settings/Control Panel. The Windows NT Control Panel displays.
2. Double-click System. The System dialog displays.
3. Click Performance (tab).
4. Drag the slider on the Boost scale to the None position.
5. Click OK to exit the System dialog.
Disable Full Window Dragging
Windows NT normally updates and displays the contents of a window while you drag it. To save system resources and improve performance, Intergraph recommends disabling full window dragging. The contents of the window are updated and displayed once you finish dragging the window to its destination.
To disable full window dragging:
1. On the Start menu, click Settings/Control Panel. The Windows NT Control Panel displays.
2. Double-click Display. The Display Properties dialog appears.
3. Click Plus! (tab).

4. Clear the Show Window Contents While Dragging checkbox.
5. Click OK to close the Display Properties dialog.
Configure Virtual Memory Settings
If you plan to install and use D-Vision Online 3.0 software, you must set configure certain virtual memory settings for the software to work correctly with the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board.
To configure virtual memory settings:
1. Log on to Windows NT using an account with Administrator privileges.
2. On the Start menu, click Settings/Control Panel. The Windows NT Control Panel displays.
3. Double-click System. The System dialog displays.
4. Click Performance (tab). The Performance dialog displays.
5. Click Change in the Virtual Memory section.
6. Changing the paging size for your system drive to the following:
Initial size: 200 MB
Maximum size: 250 MB
7. Click Set.

8. Click OK to close the Performance dialog.
9. Click OK to close the System dialog.
10. Click Yes when prompted to restart the system. You must restart the system for your changes to take effect.
11. Allow the system to restart, and then log on to Windows NT using an account with Administrator privileges.
Install the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX Drivers
The Targa 2000 RTX/DTX drivers must be installed for the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board to work correctly in the TD-425 system. You may install the drivers from diskettes delivered with the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board, or from the Truevision World Wide Web site.
To install the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX driver software:
1. Insert the Targa 2000 driver setup diskette in the system’s floppy disk drive.
2. In Explorer of File Manager, double-click

After installing the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX board and software, check and note the IRQ settings of the Targa 2000 RTX/DTX driver, the SCSI controller(s), and the Ethernet driver for future reference, if needed.
To verify note the current IRQ settings:
1. From the Start menu, click Programs/Administration Tools/Windows NT Diagnostics to open the Windows NT Diagnostics dialog.
2. Click Resources (tab), and then click IRQ to display the current IRQ settings.
3. Verify that the following drivers do not have the same IRQ settings as any other driver:

4. Restart the system.
Create a Disk Drive Stripe Set
To ensure optimal performance, you should create a stripe set that includes some of the disk drives in the system. Creating a stripe set splits the data from a single file or database onto several disk drives, permitting multiple simultaneous accesses to the data.
CAUTION Before you attempt to create a disk drive stripe set, refer to Disk Administrator Help for more
detailed information on creating and using a stripe set.
To create a disk drive stripe set:
1. From the Start menu, select Programs/Administrative Tools/Disk Administrator to run Disk Administrator.
2. Select the first area of free space on the first disk; then press additional area of free space on each of the other disks you want to add to the stripe set.

3. From the Partition menu, select Create Stripe Set.
4. Type the size of the stripe set you want to create, and then select OK.
5. From the Partition menu, select Commit Changes Now.
6. Select Restart Now is prompted to reboot. The system must be restarted before the disk formatting can be done. Skip steps 7 and 8 if you do not have to reboot.
7. Allow the system to start, and log onto Windows NT using an account with Administrator privileges.
8. From the Start menu, select Programs/Administrative Tools/Disk Administrator to run Disk Administrator.
9. Select the drive. From the Tools menu, select Format to display the Format dialog.
10. Select Quick Format. Selecting this option automatically specifies NTFS as the file system type and starts the formatting.
11. When formatting is complete, select OK.
12. Select Close to close the Format dialog.

13. From the Partition menu, select Exit.
After creating the stripe set, you should save the disk configuration information for future use (for example, if you have to reinstall the operating system). Refer to Disk Administrator Help for instructions on saving and restoring the disk configuration information.
Install and Configure Video Editing Software
Once you create a stripe set, the TD-425 is prepared for the installation of video editing software, such as D-Vision Online 3.0 or MCXpress. See the documentation delivered with the video editing software for installation and configuration information.
NOTE When you start MCXpress, you will see the following message:
Truevision Driver: The Driver Rev 2.1 may be incompatible with MCXpress.
This does not affect the performance of MCXpress.
