ELECTRIC SCREWDRIVER CONTROLLERS
These Controllers are designed for dry location use only, with Series 24 Volt EL and
24 Volt EL ESD Electric Screwdrivers.
Series 24 Volt EL and 24 Volt EL ESD Electric Screwdrivers are intended for installing screws
in metal only.
Ingersoll–Rand is not responsible for customer modification of tools for applications on
which Ingersoll–Rand was not consulted.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
WORK AREA
• Keep your work area clean and well lit. Cluttered
benches and dark areas invite accidents.
• Do not operate power tools in explosive
atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable
liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks
which may ignite the dust or fumes.
• Keep bystanders, children, and visitors away while
operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to
lose control.
• Consider work area environment. Don’t expose
power tools and chargers to water. Keep work area
well lighted.
• Do not permit unauthorized personnel to operate
this tool, or touch tool or cord.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
• Grounded tools must be plugged into an outlet
properly installed and grounded in accordance with
all codes and ordinances. Never remove the
grounding prong or modify the plug in any way.
Do not use any adapter plugs. Check with a
qualified electrician if you are in doubt as to
whether the outlet is properly grounded. If the tools
should electrically malfunction or break down,
grounding provides a low resistance path to carry
electricity away from the user.
• Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces such as
pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is
an increased risk of electric shock if your body is
grounded.
• Don’t expose power tools to rain or wet conditions.
Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of
electric shock.
• Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord to carry
the tools or pull the plug from an outlet. Keep cord
away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts.
Replace damaged cords immediately. Damaged
cords increase the risk of electric shock.
• When operating a power tool outside, use an
outdoor extension cord marked “WSA” or “W”.
These cords are rated for outdoor use and reduce the
risk of electric shock.
The use of other than genuine Ingersoll–Rand replacement parts may result in personal injury, decreased tool
performance and increased maintenance, and may invalidate all warranties.
Have your tool repaired by a qualified person. This electric tool is in accordance with the relevant safety requirements.
Repairs should only be carried out by qualified persons using original spare parts, otherwise this may result in
considerable danger to the user.
Repairs should be made only by authorized, trained personnel. Consult your nearest Ingersoll–Rand Authorized
Servicenter.

PERSONAL SAFETY
• Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use
common sense when operating a power tool. Do not
use tool while tired or under the influence of drugs,
alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention
while operating power tools may result in serious
personal injury.
• Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or
jewelry. Contain long hair. Keep your hair,
clothing, and gloves away from moving parts.
Loose clothes, jewelry or long hair can be caught in
moving parts.
• Avoid accidental starting. Be sure switch is off
before plugging in. Carrying tools with your finger
on the switch or plugging in tools that have the switch
on invite accidents.
• Remove adjusting keys or wrenches before turning
the tool on. A wrench or a key that is left attached to a
rotating part of the tool may result in personal injury.
• Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance
at all times. Proper footing and balance enables better
control of the tool in unexpected situations.
• Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection.
Dust mask, non–skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing
protection must be used for appropriate conditions.
• Power tools can vibrate in use. Vibration, repetitive
motions, or uncomfortable positions may be harmful to
your hands and arms. Stop using any tool if
discomfort, tingling feeling or pain occurs. Seek
medical advice before resuming use.
TOOL USE AND CARE
• Use clamps or other practical way to secure and
support the workpiece to a stable platform. Holding
the work by hand or against your body is unstable and
may lead to loss of control.
• Do not force tool. Use the correct tool for your
application. The correct tool will do the job better and
safer at the rate for which it is designed.
• Do not use tool if switch does not turn it on or off.
Any tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is
dangerous and must be repaired.
• Disconnect the plug from the power source before
making any adjustments, changing accessories, or
storing the tool. Such preventive safety measures
reduce the risk of starting the tool accidentally.
• Store idle tools out of reach of children and other
untrained persons. Tools are dangerous in the hands
of untrained users.
• Maintain tools with care. Keep tools clean for
better and safer performance. Inspect tool cords
periodically and if damaged, have them repaired by
an authorized service facility. Inspect extension
cords periodically and replace if damaged. Keep
handles, dry, clean, and free from oil and grease.
• Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts,
breakage of parts, and any other condition that may
affect the tools operation. If damaged, have the tool
serviced before using. Many accidents are caused by
poorly maintained tools.
• Use only accessories that are recommended by the
manufacturer for your model. Accessories that may
be suitable for one tool, may become hazardous when
used on another tool.
• Use the right tool. Do not force a small tool or
attachment to do the job of a heavy–duty tool.
• Don’t use tool for purpose not intended.
For example – don’t use screwdriver for a drill.
• Do not drop or abuse the screwdriver.
• Do not use this screwdriver for tightening wood
screws.
• Do not remove any labels. Replace any damaged
label.
• When tool is used outdoors, use only extension
cords intended for use outdoors and so marked.
PLACING TOOL IN SERVICE
• Tool service must be performed only by qualified
repair personnel. Service or maintenance performed
by unqualified personnel could result in a risk or
injury.
• When servicing a tool, use only identical
replacement parts. Follow instructions in the
Maintenance section of this manual. Use of
unauthorized parts or failure to follow Maintenance
instructions may create a risk of electric shock or
injury.
• Always wear eye protection when operating or
performing maintenance on this tool.
• Always operate, inspect and maintain this tool in
accordance with all regulations (local, state, federal
and country), that may apply to hand held/hand
operated electric tools.
• Inspect tool cords periodically and if damaged, have
them repaired by an authorized service facility.
Inspect extension cords periodically and replace if
damaged.
• Disconnect Tools when not in use, before servicing
and when changing accessories and bits.
• Check damaged parts. Before further use of the tool,
a guard or other part that is damaged should be
carefully checked to determine that it will operate
properly and perform its intended function. Check for
alignment of moving parts, binding of moving parts,
breakage of parts, mounting, and any other conditions
that may affect its operation. A guard or other part that
is damaged should be properly repaired or replaced by
an authorized service center unless otherwise indicated
elsewhere in this operation manual.
• Have defective switches replaced by an authorized
service center.
• Disconnect the Controller power cord before
performing any maintenance on these tools.

SPECIFIC SAFETY RULE
• Hold tool by insulated gripping surfaces when
performing an operation where the cutting tool may
contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Contact with
a “live” wire will make exposed metal parts of the tool
“live” and shock the operator.
OPERATIONS CAUTIONS
• Whenever changing a bit, make certain the
Forward/Reverse Switch is in the “OFF” position
and the tool is unplugged.
• Do not allow chemicals such as acetone, benzene,
thinner, ketone, trichloroethylene or other similar
chemicals to come in contact with the screwdriver
housing as damage will result.

• Do not drop or abuse the screwdriver.
• Do not adjust the torque setting higher than 5 on
the Torque Scale.
Duty cycle:
MAX 0.5 sec. “ON”
MIN 3.5 sec. “OFF”
• Do not tighten more than 900 tapping screws
(size: 2 mm, length: 4 mm) per hour.
• Do not operate the Forward/Reverse Switch when
the motor is running.
• Whenever a tool is not being used, move the
Forward/Reverse Switch to the “OFF” position and
unplug the screwdriver.

GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS
The tool should be grounded while in use to protect the
operator from electric shock. The tool is equipped with a
three–conductor cord and three–prong grounding–type plug
to fit the proper grounding–type receptacle. The green (or
green and yellow) conductor in the cord is the grounding
wire. Never connect the green (or green and yellow) wire
to a live terminal.
If your unit is for use on less than 150V, it has a plug that
looks like that shown in Figure A.
An adapter (see Figure B) is available for connecting

Figure A–type plugs to 2–prong receptacles. The green
colored rigid grounding strap must be connected to a
permanent ground such as to a properly grounded outlet
box as shown in figure C.
For safe use of adapters, the outlet box must be
grounded. If there is any doubt, have a qualified
electrician check connections.

EXTENSION CORDS
Make sure your extension cord is in good condition. When
using an extension cord, be sure to use one heavy enough to
carry the current your product will draw. An undersized
cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of
power and overheating.
Use extension cord with 16 AWG (1.5 mm2), up to
100 ft. (30 m) in length maximum.
Use only 3–wire extension cords that have 3–prong
grounding type plugs and 3 pole receptacles that accept
the controllers plug.
Replace damaged extension cords.

OPERATION
Do not drop or abuse the Controller.
Whenever a Controller is not being used, position the
Power Switch to the “OFF” position and unplug the
power cord.

SLOW START ADJUSTMENT
1. To use the SLOW START feature, turn the SLOW
START ADJUSTMENT clockwise. This lets the
screwdriver bit start rotating at a slow speed and
suddenly come up to full speed. Increased clockwise
adjustment allows the the screwdriver bit to turn at a
slow speed for a longer period of time before
suddenly coming up to full speed.
2. To cancel the SLOW START feature, turn the SLOW
START ADJUSTMENT counterclockwise until it
stops. This cancels the SLOW START feature and the
screwdriver bit will start rotating at full speed.
SPEED ADJUSTMENT
Use of the SPEED ADJUSTMENT changes the free speed
of the screwdriver. The free speed can be adjusted from
full rated speed (turn SPEED ADJUSTMENT to full
clockwise position) to 70% of full rated speed (turn SPEED
ADJUSTMENT to full counterclockwise position).
POWER SWITCH
The POWER SWITCH turns the power on or off. When
power is on, a light illuminates the push–button of the
switch.
SCREWDRIVER CORD RECEPTACLE
A sudden increase in the speed of the screwdriver bit
occurs within the first five seconds of start–up when
using the SLOW START ADJUSTMENT feature
described below. This occurs each time the screwdriver
is operated.
Use of the SLOW START ADJUSTMENT lets the
screwdriver bit rotate slowly for a brief period of time (zero
to five seconds) to provide easier alignment and
engagement of the screw threads.

When the life of the tool has expired, it is recommended that the tool be disassembled,
degreased and parts be separated by material so that they can be recycled.
The SCREWDRIVER CORD RECEPTACLE connects the
screwdriver power cord to the controller.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THIS
TOOL.
All repairs and maintenance of the Controller and its cord
must be performed by an authorized servicenter. See Form
6647 for the servicenter nearest you.

Les zones et les établis encombrés sont plus propices
aux accidents.

gaz ou de poussières inflammables. Les outils
électriques produisent des étincelles pouvant causer
l’inflammation des poussières ou des vapeurs.

N’exposez jamais les outils électriques ou les

• Les outils mis à la masse doivent être branchés dans
une prise correctement installée et mise à la masse
conformément à tous les codes et spécifications. Ne
retirez jamais la fiche de masse et ne modifiez
jamais la prise d’une manière quelconque.
N’utilisez jamais des prises d’adaptation. En cas de
doute, demandez à un électricien qualifié de vérifier
que la prise est correctement mise à la masse. En
cas de défaillance ou de panne électrique de l’outil, la
mise à la masse offre un circuit de moindre résistance,
éloignant l’électricité de l’utilisateur.
• Evitez tout contact du corps avec des surfaces mises
à la masse, comme par exemple des tuyauteries, des
radiateurs, des cuisinières et des réfrigérateurs. Le
risque d’électrocution augmente si votre corps est à la
masse.
• N’exposez pas les outils électriques à la pluie ou à
l’humidité. Toute entrée d’eau dans un outil électrique
augmentera le risque d’électrocution.
• Ne maltraitez jamais le cordon d’alimentation.
N’utilisez jamais le cordon pour transporter l’outil
ou pour débrancher la prise d’une prise secteur.
Protégez le cordon de la chaleur, de l’huile, des
arêtes vives et des objets en mouvement.
Remplacez immédiatement tout cordon
endommagé. Un cordon endommagé augmente le
risque d’électrocution.
• Pour exploiter un outil électrique en plein air,
utilisez une rallonge extérieure marquée “WSA” ou
“W”. Ces rallonges sont spécialement conçues pour
un usage en plein air, et réduisent le risque
d’électrocution.
L’utilisation de rechanges autres que les pièces d’origine Ingersoll–Rand peut causer des blessures personnelles, réduire les

SÉCURITÉ PERSONNELLE
• Restez attentif, faites attention à ce que vous faites
et ne prenez pas de risques lorsque vous utilisez un
outil électrique. N’utilisez pas l’outil si vous êtes
fatigué ou sous l’influence de drogue, d’alcool ou de
médicaments. Un moment d’inattention pendant
l’exploitation d’un outil électrique peut conduire à des
blessures personnelles graves.
• Portez des vêtements appropriés. Ne portez pas de
vêtements amples ou des bijoux. Attachez les
cheveux longs. Tenez vos cheveux, vos vêtements et
vos gants éloignés de toute pièce en mouvement.
Les vêtements amples, les bijoux ou les cheveux longs
peuvent être attrapés par des pièces en mouvement.
• Évitez toute mise en marche accidentelle. Vérifiez
que l’interrupteur est bien à la position Arrêt avant
de brancher l’outil. Le transport d’outils avec un
doigt sur l’interrupteur ou le branchement d’outils dont
l’interrupteur est sur la position Marche est propice aux
accidents.
• Retirez les clés de réglage avant de mettre l’outil en
marche. Une clé laissée sur une partie de l’outil en
rotation peut causer des blessures personnelles.
• Ne vous penchez pas trop en avant. Gardez une
bonne assise et un bon équilibre à tout moment.
Une bonne assise et un bon équilibre permettent un
meilleur contrôle de l’outil dans des situations
inattendues.
• Utilisez les équipements de sécurité. Portez
toujours des lunettes de protection. Un masque à
poussière, des chaussures de sécurité antidérapantes, un
casque ou une protection acoustique doivent être portés
en fonction des conditions.
• Les outils électriques peuvent vibrer pendant
l’utilisation. Les vibrations, les mouvements répétitifs
et les positions inconfortables peuvent causer des
douleurs dans les mains et les bras. Cessez d’utiliser
les outils en cas d’inconfort, de picotements ou de
douleurs. Consultez un médecin avant de
recommencer à utiliser l’outil.
EXPLOITATION ET SOIN DE L’OUTIL
• Utilisez des brides ou toute autre méthode pratique
pour fixer et supporter la pièce sur une plate–forme
stable. Le maintien de la pièce à la main ou contre le
corps n’est pas une méthode stable et peut conduire à
une perte de contrôle.
• Ne forcez jamais l’outil. Utilisez l’outil approprié
pour votre application. L’outil correct exécutera le
travail plus efficacement et en toute sécurité à sa
vitesse d’étude.
• N’utilisez pas l’outil si l’interrupteur n’assure pas
correctement la mise en marche ou l’arrêt. Tout
outil ne pouvant pas être contrôlé à l’aide de
l’interrupteur est dangereux et doit être réparé.
• Débranchez la prise de l’alimentation avant
d’effectuer des réglages, de changer les accessoires
ou de stocker l’outil. De telles mesures de sécurité
réduisent le risque de mise en marche accidentelle de
l’outil.
ATTENTION
• Rangez les outils non utilisés hors de portée des
enfants et autres personnes non formées. Les outils
sont dangereux dans les mains d’utilisateurs n’ayant
pas reçu la formation appropriée.
• Entretenez les outils avec soin. Tenez les outils
affûtés et propres. Les outils correctement entretenus,
avec des arêtes de coupe bien affûtées, sont moins
disposés à coincer et sont plus faciles à contrôler.
• Vérifiez que les pièces en mouvement sont
correctement alignées, qu’elles ne sont pas grippées
ou cassées, ainsi que toute autre condition qui
pourrait affecter le bon fonctionnement de l’outil.
En cas d’endommagement, faites réparer l’outil
avant de l’utiliser. De nombreux accidents sont
causés par des outils mal entretenus.
• Utilisez seulement les accessoires recommandés par
le fabricant de votre modèle. Des accessoires
convenant à un outil peuvent devenir dangereux
lorsqu’ils sont utilisés sur un autre outil.
• Utilisez l’outil approprié. Ne forcez pas un petit outil
ou accessoire à effectuer la tâche d’un outil à usage
intensif.
• N’utilisez pas un outil pour une tâche autre que
celle pour laquelle il a été conçu. Par exemple,
n’utilisez pas une visseuse à la place d’une perceuse.
• Ne laissez pas tomber et ne maltraitez pas la
visseuse.
• N’utilisez pas cette visseuse pour serrer des vis à
bois.
• N’enlevez aucune étiquette. Remplacez toute
étiquette endommagée.
• Lorsque l’outil est utilisé en plein air, utilisez
seulement des rallonges destinées à un usage
extérieur et clairement marquées.
MISE EN SERVICE DE L’OUTIL
• L’entretien de l’outil ne doit être effectué que par
du personnel de réparation qualifié. Les réparations
ou l’entretien effectués par du personnel non qualifié
pourraient présenter des risques ou causer des
blessures.
• Utilisez seulement des pièces de rechange identiques
pour les réparations d’un outil. Observez les
instructions de la section Entretien de ce manuel.
L’emploi de pièces non autorisées ou le non respect des
instructions d’entretien peut créer un risque
d’électrocution ou de blessure.
• Portez toujours des lunettes de protection lors de
l’utilisation et l’entretien de cet outil.
• Utilisez, inspectez et entretenez toujours cet outil
conformément aux réglementations (locales,
départementales, fédérales et nationales) en vigueur
pour les outils électriques portatifs /à commande
manuelle.
• Inspectez périodiquement les cordons
d’alimentation, et, en cas d’endommagement, faites
les réparer par un centre de réparation autorisé.
Inspectez périodiquement les rallonges et
remplacez–les en cas d’endommagement.
• Débranchez les outils lorsqu’ils ne sont pas utilisés,
avant l’entretien et lors du changement
d’accessoires et d’embouts.
