•Useinsulatedtoolswhenworkingnearbatteriesorelectricalconnections.Useextremecautionto avoidshortingofcomponentsorwiring.

KEYSWITCH–GASOLINEVEHICLES

Thekeyswitch(7)ismountedontheinstrumentpaneltotherightofthesteeringcolumn(Figure5).Ithasthree positions:OFF,ON,andSTART .
Tostartthevehicle,placetheForward/ReversehandleintheNEUTRALpositionandturnthekeytotheSTART position,andholditthereuntiltheenginestarts.Activatethechoke(14)asnecessary.Iftheenginedoesnotstartafter 10-15seconds,releasethekeyandrepeattheprocedure.Oncetheenginestarts,releasethekeyanditwillreturnto theONposition.Theenginewillidleinneutral.TheenginewillcontinuetoidleuntilthekeyisturnedtotheOFF position.SeefollowingWARNING,CAUTION,andNOTE.
WARNING
•Movingparts!Keepclearoftheenginecompartmentwhiletheengineisrunning.
CAUTION
•DonotshifttheForward/Reversehandlewhiletheacceleratorpedalispressed.Shiftthehandleonly whenthevehicleisatacompletestopandtheengineisatidle.Failuretoheedthiscautioncould resultindamagetothetransmission.

KEYSWITCH–DIESELVEHICLES

Thekeyswitch(7)ismountedontheinstrumentpaneltotherightofthesteeringcolumn(Figure6).Ithasfour positions:PREHEAT ,OFF,ON,andSTART.
UsethePREHEA Tfeatureifthetemperaturefallsbelow23°F(–5°C).DonotholdthekeyinthePREHEA Tposition longerthan20seconds.Topreheattheglowplugsincoldweather,turnthekeytothePREHEA Tposition,andholdit therefor10-15seconds.ThenturnthekeytotheST ARTposition,andholditthereuntiltheenginestarts.Iftheengine doesnotstartafter10-15seconds,turnthekeytotheOFFpositionandrepeattheprocedure.Oncetheenginestarts, releasethekeyanditwillreturntotheONposition.Theenginewillidleinneutral.Theenginewillcontinuetoidleuntil thekeyisturnedtotheOFFposition.SeepreviousWARNING,CAUTION,andNOTE.

FORWARD/REVERSECONTROL

TheForward/Reversehandle(6)islocatedontherightsideoftheinstrumentpanel(Figure5andFigure6).The handlehasthreedistinctpositions:FORWARD(A),NEUTRAL(B),andREVERSE(C).Pushthehandleuptooperate thevehicleintheforwarddirection,orpullthehandledowntooperatethevehicleinreverse.Theenginecanbe startedonlywhenthehandleisintheNEUTRAL(middle)position.Theenginemustbeatidlebeforeshiftingthe Forward/Reversehandle.SeeWARNINGandCAUTIONonpage15.
Thisvehicleoperatesatareducedspeedinreverse.Ifequippedwithareversebuzzer,thereversebuzzerwillsound asawarningwhentheForward/ReversehandleisintheREVERSEposition.

ACCELERATORPEDAL

Theacceleratorpedal(1)isthepedalfarthesttotheright(Figure5andFigure6).
WiththeenginerunningandtheForward/ReversehandleintheFORWARDorREVERSEposition,vehiclespeed willincreaseastheacceleratorpedalispressed.Whentheacceleratorpedalisreleased,itwillreturntotheoriginal positionandtheenginewillidle.SeeWARNINGandCAUTIONonpage15.

Theparkbrakepedal(3)islocatedtotheleftofthebrakepedal(Figure5andFigure6).T oengagetheparkbrake, rstapplypressuretothebrakepedal,thenrmlypresstheparkbrakepedaluntilitlatchesintoplace.T odisengage theparkbrake,pulltheparkbrakereleasehandle(4)(Figure7).SeefollowingWARNING.

The12-voltaccessoryoutlet(11)islocatedtotherightofthekeyswitch(Figure5andFigure6).Itprovidesaconstant 12VDCwiththekeyswitchintheONorOFFposition.SeefollowingNOTE.
NOTE:Extendeduseofthisaccessoryoutletcancausethebatterytobecomeheavilydischarged.

LOWOILWARNINGLIGHT

Thelowoilwarninglight(9)islocatedontheinstrumentpaneljusttotheleftofthesteeringcolumn(Figure5and Figure6).Ifthewarninglightlightsup,oilshouldbecheckedandaddedtotheengineasnecessarybeforevehicleuse
continues.Thevehicleshouldneverbedrivenwhenthelowoilwarninglightremainslit.Ifthewarninglightalternately lightsanddarkens,thevehiclemaybedriven,butoilshouldbeaddedattherstopportunity.Iftheoilleveliscorrect andthewarninglightremainslit,haveatrainedtechniciancheckthevehicle.SeefollowingCAUTION.
CAUTION
•Failuretoaddoilimmediatelywhenthelowoilwarninglightstaysonmayresultinpermanent enginedamage.
