TESTING / MAINTENANCE / INSPECTION
FUEL DISPENSER FLOW RATE TEST PROCEDURE
(For 10 gpm / 37.9 Lpm maximum ow rate standard)
***Any volume listed in the chart below may be used:
Gallons / Liters Minimum Time
2.0 gal / 7.6 L 11.8 seconds
3.0 gal / 11.4 L 17.7 seconds
4.0 gal / 15.1 L 23.6 seconds
5.0 gal / 18.9 L 29.5 seconds
1. Observe a vehicle that is being fueled at the
dispenser's maximum ow rate. Start the stopwatch
when the dispenser indicates 1 gal / 3.8 L dispensed.
2. Carefully measure the time that it takes to dispense
exactly 2*** gal / 7.6 L of fuel.
3. If the time is greater than 11.8*** seconds there is
not a violation.
4. If the time is less than or equal to 11.8*** seconds,
repeat the test for another 2*** gal / 7.6 L into the
same vehicle (if possible). If the second test time
is also less than or equal to 11.8*** seconds, use a
calibrated fuel container to verify the accuracy of the
dispenser meter.
5. When the dispenser meter shows 5 gal / 18.9 L
and the volume dispensed is more than 6 cubic
inches over or under the 5 gal / 18.9 L mark on the
calibrated fuel container, note the amount in the
comment area of the fuels inspection form.
5a. If the volume in the calibrated fuel container
is 5 gal / 18.9 L or greater, record the two test
times and note as a violation.
