1 Important Device Information

1.1 Safety Precautions

Please read the safety precaut ions carefully to ens ure the correct u se of the smartphone.
Do not crash, throw, or puncture the smartphone. Avoid dropping, squeezing or bending the smartphone.
Do not use the smartphone in a moist environment, such as the bathroom. Prevent the smartphone from being soaked or washed in liquid.
Do not switch on the smartphone when it is prohibit ed to use smartphones or when the smartphone may cause interference or danger.
Do not use the smartphone while driving.
Follow any rules or regulations in hospitals and health care facilities. Switch off the smartphone near any medical apparatus.
Switch off the smartphone while on an aircraft. The smartphone may cause interference to control equipment of the aircraft.
Switch off the smartphone near high-precision ele ctronic devices. The smartphone may affect the performance of these devices.
Do not attempt to disassemble the smartphone or its accessories. Only qualified personnel are allowed to service or repair the smartphone.

Do not place the smartphone or its accessories in containers with a strong electromagnetic field.
Do not place magnetic storage media near the smartphone. Radiation from the smartphone may erase the information stored on them.
Do not put the smartphone in a high-temperature place or use it in a place with flammable gas such as a gas station.
Keep the smartphone and its accessories away from children. Do not allow children to use the smartphone without guidance.
Use only approved batteries and chargers to avoid the risk of explosions.
Observe any laws or regulations on the use of wireless devices. Respect others' privacy and leg al rights wh en using your wireless device.
Strictly follow the relevant instructions of this manual while using the USB cable. Otherwise the smartphone or PC may be damaged.

1.2 Personal Information and Data Security

The use of some functions or third-party applicat ions on your device cou ld result in your personal information and data being lost or becoming accessible to others. Several measures are r eco mmended to help y ou protect personal and confidential information.
• Place your device in a safe area to prevent it from unauthorized u se.
• Set your device screen to lock and create a password or un lock pattern to open it.

• Periodically back up personal information kept on your SIM/UIM ca rd, memory card, or stored in your device memory. If you cha nge to a different device, be sure to move or delete any personal inf ormation on your old device.
• If you are worried about viruses when you receive messages or e-mails from a stranger, you can delete them without opening them.
• If you use your device to browse the Internet, avoid websites that might pose a security risk to avoid theft of your persona l information.
• If you use services such as Bluetooth, set passwords for these services to prevent unauthorized access. When these s ervices are not in use, t urn them off.
• Install or upgrade device security software and regularly scan for viruses.
• Be sure to obtain third-party applications from a legitimate source. Downloaded third-party applications should be scanned for viruses .
• Install security software or patches released by Huawei or third-par ty application providers.
• Some applications require and transmit location information. As a result, a third-party may be able to share your location inf ormation.
• Your device may provide detection and diagnostic information to third­party application providers. Third party vendor s use this information to improve their products and services.

2 Getting Started

All the pictures in this guide are for reference only. the smartphone's actual display features may be different to those described here, depending on its software version.

2.1 Your Smartphone

2.1.1 Key Functions at Your Fingertips

• Press and hold to power on the smartphone.
• When the smartphone is powered on, press and hold this button to display the options menu. You can then choose to power off the smartphone or perform sho rt cut operations.
• Press to lock the screen when the smartphone is act i ve.
Touch to open the menu on an active screen.
• Touch to return to the Home screen.
• Touch and hold to display recently used applications.

2.2 Setting Up the Smartphone

2.2.1 Installing the SIM Card

There are two steps to install the SIM ca rd:
1. Remove the battery co ver.
2. Insert the SIM card.

2.2.2 Installing the microSD Card

The smartphone is already equ ipped with a lar ge-volume built-in embedded MultiMediaCard (eMMC). If you want to expand the smartpho ne memo ry, you can also insert a microSD c ard .

2.2.3 Installing the Battery

1. Angle the edge labeled a (with the contacts) into the bottom end of the battery compartment.
2. Push the edge labeled b into the compartment until the battery clicks firmly into place.

2.2.4 Charging the Battery

Before charging the battery, ensure that it has been pr operly installed on the smartphone.
1. Connect the USB cable t hat came w ith the smartpho ne to the charger.
2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to the smartphone. Then, to start charging, plug the charger into an electrical out let.
If you charge the smartphone while it is powered on, the battery icon on the notification bar indicates the charging status. W hen the batte ry icon
changes to , the smartphone is fully charged.

Status Indicator
The color of the status indicator tells you the s tatus of the sma rtphon e's battery.
Status Indicator
Green: Fully charged (when connected to charger). Orange: Charging in progress (when connected to charger). Red: Battery low.

2.2.5 Important Infor mation About the Battery

• If the battery has not been used for a long time, you may not be able to power on the smartphone immediately after you begin charging the battery. Allow the battery to charge for a few minutes with the smartphone powered off before attempting to power the smartphone on.
• As it ages, the battery's performance will degrade, in particular it will not hold charge as it did when it was new. When the battery life becomes noticeably shorter than usual after being charged prope rly, replace the battery with a new one of the same type.
• Using data services increases the power consumption of the smartp hone and will therefore reduce the length of time that the smartphone can be used between battery charges.
• The time required to fully charge the battery depends on the ambient temperature and the age of the battery.
• When the battery power is low, the smartphone will alert you and display a message. When the battery power is almost exhausted, the smartphone will power off automatically.

2.2.6 Power Saving Tips

The longevity of battery power depends on the netwo rk to w hich yo u connect, and how you use the smartphon e. Try the following to conserve battery power:
• When the smartphone is not in use, turn off the screen backlight.
• Reduce the time it takes for your screen backlight to turn off when the smartphone is idle.
• Lower the screen brightness.
• Turn off Bluetooth when you are not using it. Only make the s martphone visible to other Bluetooth devices when you need to establish a Blue tooth connection.
• Turn off Wi-Fi when you are not using it.
• Turn off the smartphone's GPS receiver when you are not using it.
• Lower the volume.
• Close power-draining programs, when you do not need them.
• Turn off the data service.

2.3 Power On or Off the Smartphone

2.3.1 Powering the Smart phone On

Press and hold . If you have protected the smartphone with a personal identification number (PIN), enter it before using t he smartp hone .

2.3.2 Setting Up the Smart phone

The first time you power on the smartphone, the sma rtpho ne display s a set-up wizard to help you set-up the smart phone. The set-up wizard helps you:
• Create or sign in to your account
• Make some initial decisions about how you want to use the smartphone

2.4 Using the Touchscreen

2.4.1 Touchscreen Acti ons

2.5 Locking and Unlocking the
Screen

2.5.1 Locking the Scre en

• When the smartphone is on, press to lock the screen. When the screen is locked, you can still receive messages and calls.
• If the smartphone is idle for a while, the screen will lock automatically.

Notifications bar: Displays the reminders and status icons of your smartphone. Flick down to open the notifications panel.
Display area: Shows the operation and display areas of your smartphone.
1. Press to wake up the screen.
2. Drag the unlocking icon to the small open lock, the scree n is unlocked.
If you have set up a screen unloc k pattern, you will be prom pted to draw the pattern on the screen to unlock it.

2.6 Home Screen

Touch and hold a shortcut until the smartphone vibrates, you can then drag it to your desired location or move it to the trash. You can also drag an icon from another area of the screen to the shortcut position.

2.6.2 Notification Panel

The smartphone will notify you when you re ceive a n ew mess age or t here is an upcoming event. The notification panel also informs you of alarms and settings. Open the notification panel to see your network ope rator or to view a message, reminder, or event notification.
Opening the Notification Panel
1. When a new notification icon appears on the notification bar , place your finger on the notification bar and flick d own to ope n the notif ication pa nel.
2. On the panel, you can:
• Touch a notification to open the corresponding application.
• Flick left or right on a notification to delete it.
• Touch the cross sign (×) to clear all notifications.
• Touch to display the settings screen.
Closing the Notification Panel
Touch and hold the bottom of the panel. Then flick up to clos e it.

2.6.3 Viewing Other Parts of the Home Screen

Flick your finger left or right across the Home screen.
Touch to view thumbnails of the Home screen and its extensions. Touch a thumbnail to open the screen.

2.6.4 Customizing the Home Screen

Adding a New Home Screen Item
1. On the Home screen, touch to display the application list.
2. Press and hold an application icon, an d then drag the icon to a blank area on the Home screen.
Moving a Home Screen Item
1. Touch and hold the item on the Home screen that you want to move until the smartphone vibrates.
2. Without lifting your finger, dr ag the ite m to the desired position on the screen, and then release it.
Removing an Icon from the Home Screen
1. Touch and hold an item on t he Home sc reen that you want to remove until the smartphone vibrates.
2. Without lifting your finger, dr ag the ite m to the trash c an. Wait until the item and the trash can turn red.
3. Release the item.

2.6.5 Service Shor tcuts

1. Open the notification bar.
2. Touch at the top of the screen to switch data services on or off.
You can also touch , , or to turn the corresponding services on or off.

2.6.6 Changing the Wal lpaper

1. On the Home screen, touch
2. Touch the following menu items to select a picture and set it as the wallpaper:

2.6.7 Changing the Th eme

On the Home screen, touch

2.7 Applications and Widgets

The Application screen holds icons for all of the applications o n th e smartphone. You can touch on the Home screen to open the
application screen.

2.7.1 Moving Icons on the Applicat ion Screen

1. On the application screen, touch .
2. Touch and hold the icon you want to move on the application screen.
3. Without lifting your finger, dr ag the icon to th e desired location, a nd then release it.
To move more icons, repeat steps 2 and 3.

2.7.2 Accessing Widgets

On the application screen, touch the screen. From the widget screen, you can tou ch and hold a widget, and t hen drag it to the Home screen.

2.7.3 Viewing Recently Used Applications

To display the list of recently used applications, press a nd hold . To open an application, touch the corresponding thumbnail. To close t he application, flick left or right across the screen.

2.8 Using a microSD Card

2.8.1 Using the microSD Car d as a USB Mas s St or age

To transfer all your favorite music and pictures f rom your P C to t he smartphone's microSD card, set the microSD card as a US B mass storage.
1. Connect the smartphone to your PC with the USB cable provided. Yo ur PC will detect the microSD card as a removable storage device.
2. Open the notification bar, and then touch

You can now transfer files from you r PC to th e smartpho ne's microSD c ard.
When your microSD card acts as a USB mass storage, the smartphone will not use this memory space. Ensure that you follow the correct procedures to disconnect the USB mass storage device (the smartphone) from the PC when you have finished transferring files.

2.8.2 Removing the mic roSD Card

1. On the Home screen, touch
2. Scroll down the screen, and then touch

3 Calling

To make a smartphone call, you can dial a number using the key pa d or touch a number saved in your con tact list, on a webpa ge, or in other p laces. When you are in a call, you can answer other incoming calls or redir ect them to your voicemail. You can also set up conf erenc e calls w ith s evera l participants.

3.1 Making a Call

Be careful not to block the microphone at the bottom of the smartpho ne if you want your voice heard by the other parties in a call.

3.1.1 Making a Call with the Phone Applic ation

2. Enter the phone number.
3. Touch to initiate the call.
During a call, touch to enter other numbers on the dialer.

3.1.2 Making a Call from People

1. On the Home screen, touch
2. Touch to display the contacts saved on the smartphone. Select a contact to place a call.
