Quidway® NetEngine 20 Routers POS Optical Interface Module

Overview

The Packet over SDH (POS) interface is used to transmit data over a synchronous digital optical
network like SONET and SDH at a high speed. Receiving process: It receives IP data packets from
NPs, encapsulates them into PPP or HDLC packets, maps encapsulated packets to payloads of
SONET/SDH frames and then transmits them over the optical network. Sending process: It
converts optical signals received into IP p ackets and forwards them to the NP.

The POS interface line board supports the connection between an NE20 router and SONET/SDH
transmission equipment and the connection between NE20 routers.

Supporting E1 channelization, a channelized POS interface module can provide 63 E1 channels.
The NE20E router provides four types of POS optical interface modules, including 1-port

channelized POS interface module and 1/2/4-port non-channelized POS interface modules.
