Warnings and Precautions
To use the device properly and safely, read these warnings and precautions carefully and strictly observe them during operation.
Basic Requirements
z During storage, transportation, and operation of the device, keep it dry and prevent
it from colliding with other objects.
z Do not dismantle the device. In case of any fault, contact an authorized service
center for assistance or repair.
z Without authorization, no organization or individual can change the mechanical,
safety, or performance design of the device.
z When using the device, observe all applicable laws and regulations and respect the
legal rights of other people.
Environmental Requirements for Using the Device
z Before connecting and disconnecting cables, stop using the device, and then
disconnect it from the power supply. Ensure that your hands are dry during operation.
z Keep the device far from sources of heat and fire, such as a heater or a candle. z Keep the device far from electronic appliances that generate strong magnetic or
electric fields, such as a microwave oven or a refrigerator.
z Place the device on a stable surface. z Place the device in a cool and well-ventilated indoor area. Do not expose the device
to direct sunlight. Use the device in an area with a temperature ranging from 0°C to 40°C.
z During thunderstorms, power off the device, and then remove all the cables
connected to it to prevent it from getting damaged due to lightning strikes.
Precautions for Using Wireless Devices
z Do not use the device where using wireless devices is prohibited or may cause
interference or danger.
z The radio waves generated by the device may interfere with the operation of
electronic medical devices. If you are using any electrical medical device, contact its manufacturer for the restrictions on the use of the device.
z Do not take the device into operating rooms, intensive care units (ICUs), or
coronary care units (CCUs).
Areas with Inflammables and Explosives
z Do not use the device where inflammables or explosives are stored, for example, in
a gas station, oil depot, or chemical plant. Otherwise, explosions or fires may occur. In addition, follow the instructions indicated in text or symbols.
z Do not store or transport the device in the same box as inflammable liquids, gases,

Accessory Requirements
Use only the accessories supplied or authorized by the device manufacturer. Otherwise, the performance of the device may get affected, the warranty for the device or the laws and regulations related to telecommunications terminals may become null and void, or an injury may occur.
Safety of Children
Keep the device and its accessories out of the reach of children. Otherwise, they may damage the device and its accessories by mistake, or they may swallow the small components of the device, causing suffocation or other dangerous situations.
Maintenance
z If the device is not used for a long time, power it off, and then remove all the cables
connected to it.
z If any exception occurs, for example, if the device emits any smoke or unusual
sound or smell, stop using the device immediately, power it off, remove all the cables connected to it, and then contact an authorized service center.
z Do not trample, pull, or overbend any cable. Otherwise, the cable may get damaged,
causing malfunction of the device.
z Before cleaning the device, stop using it, power it off, and then remove all the
cables connected to it.
z Use a clean, soft, and dry cloth to clean the device shell. Do not use any cleaning
agent or spray to clean the device shell.
Traffic Security
z Observe local laws and regulations while using the device. To prevent accidents, do
not use your wireless device while driving.
z RF signals may affect electronic systems of motor vehicles. For more information,
consult the vehicle manufacturer.
z In a motor vehicle, do not place the device over the air bag or in the air bag
deployment area. Otherwise, the device may hurt you owing to the strong force when the air bag inflates.
Disposal and Recycling Information
This symbol on the device (and any included batteries) indicates that the device (and any included batteries) should not be disposed of as normal household garbage. Do not dispose of your device or batteries as unsorted municipal waste. z Your wireless device is a radio transmitter and receiver. It is designed not to exceed
the limits for exposure to radio waves recommended by international guidelines. These guidelines are developed by the independent scientific organization International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) and include safety margins designed to assure the protection of all persons, regardless of age and health.
z The guidelines use a unit of measurement known as the Specific Absorption Rate,
or SAR. The SAR limit for wireless devices is 2.0 watts/kilogram (W/kg) and the highest SAR value for this device when tested complies with this limit.

1 Getting to Know Your USB Stick

1.1 Functions and Features

HUAWEI WiMAX USB Stick (hereinafter referred to as the USB Stick) is applicable to the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) network. In areas covered by the network, you can enjoy the high-performance broadband network services anywhere and anytime. You can wirelessly surf the Internet with brand new experiences.

1.2 Requirements on PC Configuration

2 Installation Guide

The procedure for installing the management program depends on the OS installed on your PC. The following section takes Windows XP as an example.

2.1 Connecting the USB Stick

z Ensure that the PC is powered on when you connect the USB Stick to the PC.
Otherwise, the USB Stick cannot be used.
z During lightning storms, disconnect the USB Stick from the computer.
To connect the USB Stick to the PC, do as follows:

2.2 Installing the Management Program

The management program is the program used to configure the USB Stick parameters.

Power on the PC. Connect the USB Stick to the PC. The OS prompts finding new hardware and prompts you to install the management
program. Install the management program according to the prompts. After the program is installed, the shortcut icon of the manag ement program is displayed

3 Common Operations

3.1 Connecting and Disconnecting Network

Connecting to a Network
To connect the USB Stick to a WiMAX network, do as follows:

Start the management program and click Enter the user name and password provided by the Internet service provider (ISP), and
save the user account. Click

Then the USB Stick tries to connect to the network automatically. When the connection is established, the icons indicating a successful network connection and the signal strength are displayed at the bottom of the management program window.

When you do not use the Internet, you can disconnect the USB Stick from the network manually. After you disconnect the network connection, you need to connect the USB Stick to the network again before accessing the Internet.

3.2 Switching the Management Program Language

The USB Stick facilitates your choice and operation by providing multiple GUI languages.
When the management program is running, choose Tools > Language to select a proper GUI language.

3.3 Restoring Default Settings

After you restore default settings, you need to reset the parameters of the USB Stick. Therefore, restore the default settings with caution.
To restore default settings, do as follows:

3.4 Upgrading the USB Stick

z When upgrading the USB Stick, do not disconnect and reconnect the USB Stick and
ensure the uninterrupted power supply to the device.
z You need to restart the USB Stick after the upgrade is complete. Wait patiently for a
while.
To perform the upgrade, do as follows:

to choose the upgrade file on the computer.

3.5 Switching the Management Program User

When you use the advanced functions for management program, you need log in as administrator. You can click Tools, and click Expert Login/Logout to login. It is only used for the professionals.

4 Viewing Information about the USB Stick

The device information includes the S/N, MAC address, the version information of the USB Stick, and throughput information.
Start the management program and click Device to view the network information. Click IP Detail to view the detail information inc ludes the frequ ency, the bandwidth, the
IP address, default gateway, subnet mask, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol ( DHCP) server address, and Domain Name Server (DNS) address.
Click Check to view the detail information of the USB Stick.

5 Troubleshooting

When the USB Stick is connected to the PC for the first time, the system does not prompt you to install the management program.
z
After the system recognizes the new hardware, you need to wait a few minutes for the system to prepare the installation of the program.
z
Ensure that the USB Stick is connected to th e PC correc tly and is displayed on the system tray. Otherwise, unplug the USB Stick and connect it to the PC again.
z
Check whether the disk icon is displayed in the My Computer window.
1. If yes, double-click the icon.
2. If no, remove the USB Stick from the PC and restart the PC. Then connect the
USB Stick to the PC again.
z
Log in to the website designated by the ISP to download the installation program, and then install the program.
z
Ensure that the auto play function of the OS is enabled.
The management program cannot start automatically after the installation.
z
Check whether the shortcut icon of the management program is displayed on the desktop or in the notification area. If yes, double-click the icon to start the management program.
z
Ensure that the USB Stick is correctly connected to the PC, do as follows:
1. Uninstall the management program.
2. Remove the USB Stick from the PC after uninstallation, and then connect the
USB Stick to the PC again.
3. Install the management program again according to the prompts.
z
Remove the USB Stick safely and restart the PC. Then connect the USB Stick to the PC again.
z
Ensure that the auto-play function of the OS is enabled.
The USB Stick cannot access the Internet.
z
Ensure that you are in the service area.
z
Ensure that the USB Stick is connected to the PC correctly and the management program is correctly installed.
z
Ensure that you have subscribed the Internet access service. Contact your local ISP for how to subscribe the service.

When you power on the PC after the USB Stick is connected, the Wi ndo ws OS hangs.
z
Check the settings of devices such as the USB interface and the ne twork adapter in the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) of the PC. It is recommended that you enable devices such as the USB interface and the network adapter.
z
Remove the USB Stick safely and restart the PC. Then connect the USB Stick to the PC again.
The indicator is off.
Ensure that the USB Stick is connected to the PC correctly and the management program is correctly installed.
The network signals cannot be searched out.
z
Ensure that the network signals are not blocked by any obstacles around the USB Stick.
z
Ensure that the network frequency is set properly.
The system prompts that the software is damaged.
The USB Stick can repair the software automatically. When the software is damaged, the system prompts you to repair the software. You can repair th e software according to the on-screen instructions.
Contact your local ISP if the automatic repair of the software fails.
