UnitedLinux 1.0 Installation Notes for HP
Servers

Introduction
This document was created by Hewlett-Packard for the purpose of providing you with
installation procedures that are unique to the installation of UnitedLinux 1.0 on HP
Server tc2110, HP Server tc3100, and HP Server tc4100. Review these installation notes
before beginning installation of UnitedLinux 1.0.
UnitedLinux 1.0 is the engine that powers Linux products distributed by these four
companies: Conectiva S.A., The SCO Group, SuSE Linux AG, and Turbolinux, Inc.
Installation documentation is provided by each of these Linux distributors for released
UnitedLinux 1.0 based products:

Use the installation documentation provided by these Linux distributors in combination
with the procedures documented here to successfully install UnitedLinux 1.0 on your HP
Server.

Installing the UnitedLinux 1.0 Installation Update Disk
The UnitedLinux 1.0 Installation Update Disk must be installed if installing UnitedLinux
1.0 on a server configured with more than one disk controller.
installed the OS will fail to boot with a kernel panic caused by the inability to mount root.
An error message stating this will be displayed as well.
1. Download the UnitedLinux1.0 Installation Update Disk from HP.com:

&prodTypeId=15351. Choose the HP Server you are installing on and then
choose “Download Drivers and Software”.

2. Download and extract the Update Disk to a flexible diskette.
3. After booting to the UnitedLinux 1.0 installation CD, at the installation mode
menu (Installation, Installation – Safe Settings, Installation – APIC Enable, etc.)
press the ALT key.
4. Follow all on screen instructions to continue with the installation of the Update
Disk.

NOTE: The correct IDE controller drivers are installed by default.
If the drivers listed above are not installed by default during the installation process, the
default driver should be removed and the HP supported driver listed above should be
installed. The drivers listed above are located on the UnitedLinux 1.0 CD.
