Connecting hp StorageWorks SAS tape drives to
hp ProLiant ML150 G3 servers using the supplied cable
The option of this server that provides support for SAS hard drives uses an HP 8 Internal Port SAS with RAID
controller. The most cost-effective way to connect the SAS tape drive to the server is to use the special cable
supplied with the tape drive.
This installation requires you to remove one of the existing SAS cables and replace it with the cable supplied
with the tape drive. This does not affect your existing hard disk drive configuration. (If this cabling solution is
not acceptable, you must purchase and install a new, supported SAS HBA.)
1. Locate the cable to be removed
These servers support up to 6 hard disk drives. You need to replace the cable that connects to hard disk drives
5 and 6.
2. Identify the SAS port on the SAS controller
Trace the other end of the cable back to the SAS controller card to identify the SAS port to which it is
connected.
The poster supplied with your tape drive provides detailed instructions about replacing the cable and
installing the tape drive.
