1. Understand the
Power Option
s
Power
to the
NJ1000G can
be
supplied
through either
PoE(either
802.3at or 802.3af)
applied
to the uplink port or through the optional
local external
power supply.
If power
is supplied
to the uplink port by 802.3at or bythe
external
powersupply,
then ports 1 and2
may
act
as PoE PSE
(Power SourceEquipment)and
may
also
provide
power to other
devices
pluggedinto
those
ports.If poweriss
upplied
by
802.3af,then port 1 and2 will not be
abletosupply PoE
power.

2. Understa
nd the
PoE Capabilities
for Port 1 and Port2
If power
is supplied
by 802.3at through the uplink port
(PD)
or if powerissupplied
through the
external
power
supply,
then ports1and2
may
in turn act
as PoE PSE
and
may provide
power.
If power
is provided
to the
NJ1000G
by the uplink port
(PD)
with 802.3at
PoE
or
with
the
external
power
supply,
then the
NJ1000G
will
have
atotal
PoE PSE
budget
of
15.4W, which
can
be
divided
betweenport 1 and port 2
based
on the
class-based
power
management
feature.
The NJ1000G can
power
these combinations
of devices:
One Class
0,3
PD device
or
Two Class2PD devices
or
Two Class1PD devices
or
Page 9

CAUTION:
Youmust
use
onlya power
supply
that
is provided
or
approved
by HP for
use
with this
NJ1000G. Failuretocomply
with this
requirement may resultindamage
to the
NJ1000G,ormay result
in a
hazardous
situation or
personal
injury.
3.
Plan
the Installation
When
installed,
the
back
of the
NJ1000G extends
into a wall for 0.5
inches.
Because
the depth of
some
wall
openings
differs,
observe
the following
requirements
and
recommendations
beforeyou
install
the
NJ1000G
:
Make
sure
that the wall openingwhere the
NJ1000G is
beinginstalled
complies with the
NEMA-WD6 standard, as described
in thisdiagram:

sure
that the
distance

back
of the
NJ1000G
andthe
inside
of
the wallisat
least
1.5
inches(3inches is
recommended).
Page 10

NOTE:
If you
are installing
the
NJ1000G
into a wall junction box,
make sure
that
there
is
enough
space
between the
back
of the
NJ1000G
and the
inside
of the
junction box to maintainan
acceptable
bend
radiuson the cable.
To ensure
properhorizontal
cabling
functionality,
adhere
to the
following
network
cablingst

during installation:
ANSI/TIA/EIA-568
Commercial Building Telecommunications Cabling
Standard
ANSI/TIA/EIA-569

5. Set Up the Network Cabling
The
network
cabling
(from the wiring
closet
to the wall
opening) may already
be
installed.
If itisnot,
installthe
cabling
following
these general
guidelines.
CAUTION:
HP recommends
that a
professional cable installer
perform these
procedures. Be sure
to
adhere
to
local safety
and
regulatory codes
during the cable
installation.
1
Connect
oneend of an
Ethernet cable
to the network.
Usually,
this
connection is made
in anetwork wiring
closet, via
the patch panel.
2
Terminatethe other endof the
cable
at the locationwherethe
NJ1000G is
being
installed (using
eithera
femaleormale
RJ-45
connector). Refer
to the
connector manufacturer's instructions
for
terminating the
cable. Be sure
to test the
connector
and
verify
that
it
is
work
ing.
6.
Connect
the
NJ1000G
to the Ne
twork
The
method for
connecting
the
NJ1000G
to the network
is determined
by how
the network
cable is
terminated,
as described
in
step
5.
If the end of the
cable is
terminatedwith a
female RJ-45connector, use
one
of
the
RJ-45coupler cables included
in the
NJ1000G packagetoconnect
the
NJ1000G to the network cable.
Page 12
12
If the endof the
cable is
terminatedwith a
male connector, connect
the
network
cable directly
into the
Ethernet
uplinkport.
7. Mount the
NJ1000G
to theWall
After you
connect
the
NJ1000G
to the network, follow
these steps, as
shownin
the nextfigure:
1 Mount the
NJ1000G
to the wall-mount bracket.
CAUTION:
Make
sure
that the
vents
alongthe
edges
of the
NJ1000G faceplate
are
clearofany obstructions
to allow airflow to vents.
2
Slide
the
NJ1000G
onto thewall-mount
bracket, ensuring
that the
fourhooks
on the
bracket
fit into the four
slots
on the
back
of the
NJ1000G.
Page 13

Pull
the
NJ1000G
down to lock the
hooks
tightly into the
slots. Be
sure to matchthe

Connect
the
Local
Power
Supply (O
pti
onal)
If the network
does
not support
PoE,
you
can use
the optional
local
power
supply.To
connect
the
local
power
supply
to the
NJ1000G,
follow
these
steps:
1
Connect
the round
connector
of the
local
power
supply
to the
NJ1000G (as
shownin the nextdiagram).
2
Plug
the power cordof the
local
power
supply
into an ACoutlet.
WARNING:
Use
only the
local
power
supply available
from
HP. Failure
to do so
may resultindamage

Connect Devices
to the NJ1000G
Now you
mayconnectnetworking
devices such ascomputers,
servers, access
points,
IP cameras,
and
Voice Over IP (VoIP)
telephones
to
any
of the four
LAN
portson the
front of the
NJ1000G. Remember,
if power
is supplied
to the
NJ1000G
by802.3at or
via the
local, external
power
supply,
then
PoE PSE
power will be
available
on ports 1
