Welcome...
...to the world of high efficiency air cleaning. Your Honeywell electrostatic air cleaner does exactly what its name suggests - it cleans the air in the duct of tobacco smoke, dust, pollens and the vast majority of other airborne contaminants that reduce furnace and air conditioner efficiency, stain walls and generally make the room or building a less comfortable place to live. With this Honeywell electrostatic air cleaner you can expect to enjoy the benefits of clean air for years to come.
The air cleaner meets all relevant EU Directives.
OPERATING YOUR F50 AIR CLEANER
Your Electrostatic Air Cleaner has one or two cells depending on the model. These instructions apply to all models. To f ollow these instructions please refer to the diagram on the inside front flap of this booklet.
Please retain this booklet for future reference.
Set the on-off switch in the power box to ON. The air cleaner will now operate whenever your furnace or air conditioning system fan operates For maximum air cleaning benefit and cleaner air conditioning coils, leave the air cleaner switch ON at all times.
When the fan and air cleaner come on the neon indicator lights.
You may hear a snapping (or arcing) sound occasionally as the air cleaner operates. This is usually caused by a larger dust particle and confirms that the air cleaner is working as it should. To hear the snapping sound, momentarily press the ‘TEST’ button which is at the bottom of the door. Use the TEST button at any time to confirm air cleaner operation.
A wall mounted Performance Indicator unit, which can be sited in any convenient visible area, monitors your air cleaner’s performance. If your air cleaner is equipped with the Performance Indicator the ‘ON’ LED will be on whenever the air cleaner is in operation. Of course this tells that the fan is running too. This option is available to order from your installer or dealer.
When the fan and air cleaner stop the neon light goes out (as does the ‘ON’ LED on the remote Performance Indicator unit). The air cleaner is off until the heating or air conditioning fan starts again.

GETTING THE MOST FROM YOUR ELECTROSTATIC AIR CLEANER
Run the air cleaner as much as possible.
For maximum cleaning efficiency the air cleaner should run all the time. To do this set the fan switch to ON and make sure the air cleaner is switched ON too. The fan and air cleaner will run even when the furnace or air conditioner is OFF.
NOTE: The additional cost of running the air cleaner full-time is minimal! The air cleaner actually uses less power than a 40 watt light bulb! Two cell models - 33 watts; single cell models - 22 watts. The small added cost is more than offset by the added benefits of full time air cleaning and full time air circulation. In addition, some people feel that room temperatures stay more even when the fan is always running.
If your fan cannot be controlled independently, you can still obtain maximum available air cleaning benefit. Make sure the air cleaner is always switched ON so it operates whenever the furnace or air conditioner is on.
Performance Indicator Module
This electrostatic air cleaner is equipped with a special circuit which operates the optional Performance Indicator Module. This Module is designed to be mounted where it can be easily viewed as it monitors the air cleaner’s performance.
The three light-emitting diodes (LEDs) on the Module are labelled ON, WASH and CHECK.
The ON LED is lit during normal air cleaner operation. This indicates that the system fan is also running.
If excessive dirt has accumulated on the air cleaner’s cell(s), the WASH LED will light to alert you that a cell and prefilter wash is overdue. (see next section).
A CHECK LED indicates that the air cleaner has developed a fault. This light usually tells of a fault with the internal power supply but there are some checks you can do before calling your service dealer. (see later section on Service Checks).

CLEANING THE ELECTROSTATIC CELL AND PREFILTER
The air cleaner is designed to be efficient over a wide range of cell loading conditions. However, as it cleans the air the cell and prefilter in your air cleaner become dirty. This can lead to reduced efficiency. To maintain the air cleaner’s high operating efficiency it is essential to wash the cell and prefilter regularly.
Washing the Cell
CAUTION.
When washing the electrostatic cell care should be taken to avoid damage to the cell and injury to yourself. The collecting plates and ioniser wires in particular must be handled with care. Avoid prolonged skin contact with the detergent, and prevent injury to your hands, by wearing rubber protective gloves during cell washing. Take care not to splash detergent solution in the eyes.
Isolate the device from the mains supply.
Open the access door
Remove dirt from the cell by soaking in a solution of domestic dishwasher or similar alkaline based detergent for 15 to 20 minutes, agitating several times. (Note that some detergents recommend soaking for longer periods of time.) Do not use acid based detergents as these will corrode the cell. Dilute detergent according to manufacturer’s instructions. DO NOT USE ADDITIVE INTENDED TO GIVE SPARKLE TO GLASSWARE IN DOMESTIC DISHWASHERS. THIS WILL REDUCE THE EFFICIENCY OF THE ELECTROSTATIC CELL.
Remove the cell from the solution and rinse before soaking in clean water. Rinse again and repeat.
Carefully wipe ioniser wires with a damp cloth.
Allow the cell time to dry completely - normally two hours. After cleaning the cell may occasionally look stained.
- If the stain is black or very dark, it is probably dirt residue. This can lower efficiency so the cell shouldbe washed again.
- If the stain is white, it is probably detergent residue. This lowers efficiency and may also corrode the cell. Rinse the cell again.
- If the stain is brown or yellow, it is probably tobacco smoke or other airborne dirt. Moderate discolouration of this type does not affect the air cleaner efficiency. Recleaning is not necessary.
and slide out the cell and prefilter screen.
Washing the Prefilter
Remove the accumulated dirt from the prefilter by vacuuming, brushing or washing. If washing in the same
detergent solution as the cells, wash ALL cells before washing the prefilter, otherwise the larger contaminants from the prefilter will be picked up on the cell.

Replacing the Cell and Prefilter
Before replacing the cell it should be visually examined for bent or damaged collector plates or broken ioniser
wires. Bent or warped plates can be formed back into shape. This should be done to prevent the arcing sound which is caused by the plates being too close together.
Do NOT use cells until broken ioniser wires are removed. If the broken wire is in the middle of the cell, replace with one of the wires from either end. This will ensure the cell operates at reasonably high efficiency until a replacement is obtained from your installer or service dealer.
When replacing the cell in the air cleaner make sure the airflow arrow on the cell is pointing downstream and the
handle faces outward. The cell is keyed to prevent it being wrongly inserted. DO NOT USE EXCESSIVE FORCE if resistance is encountered.
Slide the prefilter into the upstream prefilter guides.
Replace the access door and close firmly.
SERVICE CHECKS
Some faults can be checked without the need to call your service dealer.
If the snapping sound (arcing) occurs too frequently....The cell may be wet from washing. Turn the air cleaner off
for two hours to dry. Check the cell for broken ioniser wires or bent collector plates.
If the air cleaner switch is on but the light is not!...Check the system fan is ON. The airflow switch keeps the air
cleaner OFF when there is no air passing through the duct.
If you have a Performance Indicator and...
The system ON LED does not come on....Check the system fan is on when the air cleaner is running.
The CHECK LED comes on....Ensure that the cell is clean and dry. Check for damaged or shorted ioniser wires.
The WASH LED comes on....Check that the cell is properly located in the air cleaner. Wash the cell and prefilter.
Wipe the ioniser wires to remove any remaining deposits.
-If you smell ozone it could be because the cell is new. The small amount of ozone produced when the air
cleaner is running may be higher than usual during the first week or two of operation, until the cell is ‘burned in’. Normal use and the first cleaning usually takes away this smell. If, however, the smell of ozone remains objectionable ask your installer or dealer to do one of two things to remedy the situation.
-Adjust the air cleaner power supply to reduce ozone production. Note that this will reduce ozone production about 25% but will also reduce cleaning efficiency by 5-15 % depending on the airflow in the duct.
-Install an activated carbon filter downstream of the air cleaner.

Bienvenue ...
