NOTES ON THE READINGS
----------------------------------------------------------
BMI (Body Mass Index)
BMI is based on the ratio between body weight and body height. The index is not a completely precise measurement, as many individual factors affect the ratio between body weight and height, such as extreme muscle tone or dense bone mass. The following guidelines* roughly apply:
BMI Indication
<18.5
18.5 - 24.9
25.0 - 29.9
30.0 - 39.9
*based on guidelines from the
World Health Organisation (WHO)
Underweight Normal weight Overweight Obese
Total body water
Water is an essential part of the body. The amount of water in the body can be between 45% and 60%. It helps all the essential biochemical reactions necessary for normal bodily functions. Water transports waste products out of the cells and discharges them in sweat and urine.
Water also maintains a constant body temperature. The amount of water in the body depends on the proportion of water loss, for example due to heat or physical activity and sweating. Therefore, it is very important to ensure and check the amount of water in the body and ensure that it remains constant.
