This recorder employs the VHS system

The recordings made with this video recorder can be played on any recorder that uses the same system.

Playback of S-VHS recordings

This recorder allows you to play back recordings made with the S-VHS standard.

However, the picture resolution will not be the same as the high picture resolution of the original S-VHS recording.

The remote control ...

and is used to carry out various functions of suitable

GRUNDIG TV sets. From the comfort of your armchair, you can control nearly all the recorder functions.

GRUNDIG On-Screen menu – what is it?

The on-screen menu is an instruction guide which

makes seemingly complicated settings and data

entries easy and understandable for everyone. The correct menus, tables and dialogue lines – from which you can determine the next possible operating steps – always appear on the screen. To make programming even easier, the corresponding buttons on the remote control are also shown. You will be guided systematically and step by step until you have achieved the desired result. It is possible to use the on-screen menu in several languages.

Programming with the remote control, checking on

the TV set.

You call up certain Teletext pages and then you can immediately select and confirm the desired data from the programe summaries provided by the TV stations. The data is then displayed on the screen of the TV set.

The video recorder can be pre-programmed

for eight different broadcasts over a period of 31

days;

for daily or weekly TV programmes broadcast at the same time; with or without VPS/PDC control; with standard or long play.

Programming with the ShowView system

ShowView simplifies programming your video recorder. You simply enter the ShowView code

provided in your TV programme guide, and confirm the entry. ShowView is a registered trademark of the Gemstar Development Corp. The ShowView system was developed under license of the Gemstar Development Corporation.

Of course with Teletext

By means of the built-in Teletext decoder, any TV set becomes suitable for Teletext operation. Teletext information can easily be called up by

means of the remote control.

Creative playback function – by simply turning the jog-knob and shuttle-ring.

You can use the jog knob and shuttle-ring on the recorder and on the remote control to determine the speed and playback direction.

The jog and shuttle-function allow you to "page through" a recording at high speed, to look for certain scenes at half the normal playback speed, to look at an individual frame for as long as you want, and then advance frame by frame – all this by simply giving the ring a turn.

HiFi quality recording and playback!

Besides recording in mono (on the longitudinal track), the recorder also records in HiFi (on the heli-

cal track). This means that you can use your recorder as a HiFi tape recorder and that you can record and play back top quality recordings.

ATS euro plus (Auto Tuning System)

With the automatic tuning system the recorder

searches for, sorts, and stores all channel numbers/

special channel numbers of the TV stations which can be received in your area. If you are not satisfied with the order in which the TV stations are alocated, the order can be changed subsequently.

Automatic tracking adjustment (Auto Tracking)

In playback mode, the recorder automatically

adjusts the tracking position for the best possible

picture quality – also with cassettes recorded on another video recorder.

ACC (Automatic Contour Control)

The ACC system automatically optimizes the picture definition during playback.

The ATTS System

(ATTS = AUTO-TAPE-TIME-SELECT)

This system automatically recognizes the total playing time as well as the elapsed playing time of standard "hour cassettes" and shows these times in

the display of the recorder.

The Automatic Programme Finder (VISS System)

This system enables you to precisely and quickly find the beginning of any recording made with this recorder.

SECAM (Eastern European standard) – and NTSC playback – SECAM (Ost) recording

The recorder can play back recordings made with the NTSC and the SECAM systems, as well as record programmes broadcast with the SECAM system.

In order to play back recordings made with the NTSC or SECAM system, the television must be accordingly equipped.

Create your own title lines

You can create your own titles using the remote control and this recorder. You can edit, for example, your holiday films made

with a camcorder and add these lines as titles.

Subtitles for the hearing impaired

The TV stations transmit subtitles for certain broadcasts. Subtitles can also be recorded.

Long or standard play mode?

Before you record, you can press a button to double the playing time of the cassette. During playback, the recorder automatically selects

the correct play mode.

You can lock your recorder

The electronic combination lock enables you to pro-

tect your recorder from unauthorized use.

VPS/PDC (the Video Programming System)

Programming with VPS/PDC guarantees that the

recording you have programmed will be complete.

Programme delays will no longer be a problem.

Receiving cable TV programmes

The recorder is suitable for cable reception; it can

receive and record all programmes broadcast by

cable TV stations.

Playback operation is possible with the buttons on the remote control or on the recorder.

Optimizing the Picture/Sound Quality

Automatic Tracking

After having inserted a cassette and started playback, the recorder adjusts automatically for the best possible picture quality (Auto Tracking). During this adjustment, the indication: » in the display of the recorder and the picture/ soundquality may change.

1. Installation and Safety Precautions

Do not expose the recorder to drastic temperature changes, e.g. taking it from a warm to a cold place. If this should happen, switch the recorder on and let it stand at the new place for at least two hours without a cassette loaded.

Place the recorder on a flat and hard surface.

Do not place the recorder on a mat or anything similar. Do not place any objects (e.g. newspapers) on the recorder as this would cover the ventilation openings which are necessary for cooling.

Do not place the recorder in the immediate vicinity of a heat source or in direct sunlight, as this would also prevent appropriate cooling.

Keep the recorder away from magnetic fields (e.g. loudspeakers).

1. Installation and Safety Precautions

Do not expose the recorder or the cassette to any moisture. The recorder is intended for use in dry rooms. If you wish to operate it in the open air, make absolutely sure that it is protected against moisture (rain, splashes of water). Do not place any object filled with water (vases or similar) on the recorder. The object might fall over and the liquid spilling into the unit might limit its electrical safety.

Thunderstorms are a danger for each electrical appliance. Even when switched off, the recorder might be damaged by a lightning striking the mains and/or aerial lead. During a thunderstorm, you should therefore always disconnect the mains and aerial plugs. In any case, your aerial system should conform to BSI.CP

Caution! Lithium Battery in Video Recorder

Do not tamper with the lithium battery. It can explode. The battery must only be removed by a specialized dealer (as described in the "Service Manual").

Additional Information for Units sold in Great Britain

Units sold in GB are suitable for operation from a 240V AC, 50 Hz mains supply. In case this appliance is supplied with a Safety Standard Approved mains lead fitted with a non-rewireable 13 Amp mains plug which, if unsuitable for your socket, should be cut off and an appropriate plug fitted by a qualified electrician. The fuse and fuse holder must be removed from the plug as accidental insertion of the redundant plug into a 13 Amp socket is likely to cause an electrical hazard.

Note:

The severed plug must be destroyed to avoid a possible shock hazard should it be inserted into a 13 Amp socket elsewhere.

If it is necessary to change the fuse in the non-rewireable plug, the correct type and rating (5 Amp ASTA or BSI approved BS 1362) must be used and the fuse cover must be refitted. If the fuse cover is lost or damaged the lead and plug must not be used until a replacement is obtained. Replacement fuse covers should be obtained from your dealer.

If a non-rewireable plug or a rewireable 13 Amp (BS 1363) plug is used, it must be fitted with a 5 Amp ASTA or BSI approved BS 1362 fuse. If any other type of plug is used it must be protected by a 5 Amp fuse either in the plug or at the distribution board.

Important: The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code: BLUE – NEUTRAL BROWN – LIVE As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of your appliance may not correspond with the coloured marking identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows: Connect the BLUE coloured wire to plug terminal marked with a letter "N" or coloured black. Connect the BROWN coloured wire to plug terminal marked with a letter "L" or coloured red. In no circumstance must any of the wires be connected to the terminal marked with a letter "E", earth symbol ɧ, coloured green or green and yellow.

Replacement mains leads can be obtained from your dealer.

Connecting the recorder to the aerial

Remove the plug of the cable from the aerial socket of your TV set and insert it into the aerial socket

of the recorder.

Connecting the recorder and the TV set

Connect the socket ə of the recorder with the aerial socket of the TV set using the cable supplied with the recorder.

If your TV set is provided with a EURO-AV socket, also connect the EURO-AV socket of the TV set via a Euro-AV cable with the EURO-AV A1 socket of the recorder. The EURO-AV cable is available from your specialized dealer.

The advantage of this connection is even better picture and sound quality during playback and in the EE mode (loopthrough mode. In addition, this connection is necessary for stereo sound when playing back on a stereo television.

If you connect your video recorder to a TV set with the 16:9 format, it is necessary to carry out the adjustment on page 78.

Connecting a "Pay-TV" decoder

If you wish to receive and record scrambled television programmes broadcast by private cable companies, you will need a decoder. See your specialized dealer.

Use a EURO-AV cable to connect the decoder to the A2 socket of the recorder.

Connecting the recorder to the mains

Insert the mains cable supplied into the mains socket ʋon the recorder.

Insert the plug of the mains cable into the wall socket. The recorder is now on.

Only by pulling out the mains plug will the recorder be isolated from the mains.

Inserting Batteries into the Remote Control

The Two "Levels" of the Remote Control

Press the catch and remove the cover from the battery compartment. Insert the batteries (2x1.5 V, mignon batteries) observing correct polarity (marked on the bottom of the compartment).

If your recorder no longer responds correctly to the remote control commands, the batteries may be exhausted.

Exhausted batteries must be removed. We cannot be held responsible for damages resulting from battery leakage.

Exhausted batteries must be handed over to a special waste collecting point (environmental protection).

The buttons on the remote control are located on two separate "levels".

The buttons that are required for the essential functions of the recorder are located on the upper "level".

The buttons that are required for convenience functions are located on the lower "level".

Pull the lower level downwards (see illustration).

Tuning the TV set to the Recorder

Your TV set receives programmes from different stations on certain channels.

You recorder also transmits on such a channel (between channels 30 and 40

2 channels in the UHF band) to which the TV set must now be tuned. So that you can find this channel, the recorder is fitted with a “transmitter” which generates a test pattern.

Preparation

Switch the TV set on.

Select the AV programme position for the recorder on the TV set.

Open the front cover of the recorder (see illustration).

Tuning

Switch to the colour test pattern by pressing the Jbutton (see illustration to the left). After a short period of time, the recorder “transmits” the test pattern.

Search for the recorder´s test pattern on the TV set – in the UHF band between the channels 30 and 40

2 – and store it in the memory. How this is done is explained in the operating instructions for the TV set.

Insert the aerial cable plug into the aerial socket

Improving the picture quality

If wavy lines are visible on the TV screen, the channel tuned to is already occupied by a TV station.

In this case, proceed as follows:

Press the

“

Ǽ button on the recorder.

On the TV set, search for a channel – in the UHF band between the channels 30 and 40

2 channels – which is not

occupied by a TV station (only snow on the picture screen).

Store the channel found in the memory of the TV set (see the operating instructions for the TV set).

Switch to the test pattern by pressing the

button on the

recorder.

After a few seconds, the recorder will transmit the test pattern.

Using the alignment pin supplied, turn the channel selector

(FREQ./MOD.) on the back of the recorder (see illustration) slightly to the right or left until the test pattern appears on the screen.

Reconnect the aerial cable to the socket

of the recorder.

Complete the adjustment by pressing the

“

Ǽ button on the

recorder.

Remove the aerial cable from the socket

There should be no cassette in the recorder.

Switching the Recorder´s Transmitter Off and On

If your recorder receives many TV stations between the channels 30 and 40 in the UHF band, you may experience picture interference when using your recorder. To avoid this, the recorder´s transmitter can be switched off.

In order for the picture/sound signal of the recorder to be passed to the TV set, the two units must be connected by means of a EURO-AV cable (see page 8).

... enables a dialogue between you and your video recorder to take place.

The recorder provides Info menus and dialogue lines on the TV screen for many of the functions which you select with the remote control.

Symbols for the keys on the remote control and the dialogue lines indicate the next possible operating steps.

You will be guided simply and clearly, step by step.

Preparation

Switch the television set on.

Select the AV programme position for the recorder on the TV set.

Pull out the second level of the remote control.

Calling up the Info menu

Call up the "Info" menu by pressing the øbutton. The "Info" menu will appear on the TV screen and show you the functions you can select.

You can now select different functions from the "Info" menu by pressing the numbered buttons

to 4.

Normal character size = basic setting. Repeatedly pressing the

Tuning the Recorder to TV Stations

Television stations broadcast programmes on different frequencies/channels.

Your recorder has a built-in receiver so it can receive and record television programmes independently of the television.

First, you must tune your recorder to the channels used by the different TV stations.

There are 60 programme positions available for the TV stations.

There are two possible methods of doing this:

1. With the automatic tuning system (ATS euro plus). The recorder searches for, sorts and stores all channel numbers/special channel numbers of the TV stations which can be received in your area.

This procedure depends on the language and country you selected, as well as the reception quality of the TV stations.

If you are not satisfied with the order in which the TV stations are alocated, the order can be changed subsequently.

2. By searching manually, if, for example, there are new TV

stations, or if the recorder cannot find a TV station with the automatic tuning system.

An example of using the ATS euro plus tuning system

Assume that you are using your recorder in the part of Switzerland where German is spoken.

When carrying out the adjustments described on the following pages, you enter “Deutsch” as the language and “CH” as the country (for Switzerland).

This means that the recorder will store the TV stations in Switzerland that broadcast in German on the first programme positions.

Settings for the ShowView system

In order to take full advantage of the ShowView system when you programme recordings, you must assign a specific ShowView code to each programme position.

This is assigned on pages 14 through 17.

The ShowView codes can be found in the enclosed overview, or taken from the television programme guide you use which offers the ShowView service.

In case of television stations which broadcast the VPS signal, the ShowView codes are automatically stored by the recorder.

Note on record programming with the Teletext pages of the TV stations

In the record programming mode, with the help of Text programming, you no longer need TV programme guides for the required data (for example, programme, date, start and stop times) as you can find the data in the programme summaries offered by certain TV stations on Teletext pages.

The numbers of the Teletext pages on which these programme summaries can be found may differ from station to station.

The following are examples of TV Guide Teletext pages:

– BBC 1 Today Page 601; Tomorrow Page 613;

– BBC 2 Today Page 602; Tommorrow Page 614;

– ITV Today Page 213; Tommorrow Page 217;

– CH 4 Today Page 601; Tommorrow Page 415;

Now you can decide from which page of the summary you wish to programme most of your recordings. Enter the required number of the Teletext page into the “TV Station Table”. The example on the following pages will show you how to do this. When you programme a recording, these Teletext pages are called up automatically.

Switch the TV set on.

Select the AV programme position for the recorder on the TV set. You can now check the settings on the TV screen.

4. Starting the ATS euro plus tuning

function

The ATS euro plus tuning function starts. »

The scrolling symbol

in the display of the recorder indicates that the recorder is searching.

The recorder searches for all channels on which TV stations are broadcasting, sorts those channels which are found, and stores them.

After a brief interval, the recorder completes the ATS euro plus tuning function.

VPS/PDC appears in the display of the recorder for television stations which broadcast the VPS signal. The station identification abbreviation and the ShowView reference number are automatically stored by the recorder.

When you receive a programme from a television station which does not broadcast the VPS signal, the following is displayed in the TV station table:

and »

If your recorder does not properly execute the ATS euro-plus search function, move the attenuation switch to position

3. The Cassette

Inserting a Cassette

Open the front cover of the recorder. Push the cassette with the window facing upwards and the label visible into the cassette compartment until it is automatically pulled in.

Cassette Playing Time

After having inserted the cassette, the recorder will measure the playing time (display »

ATTS

«) and indicate the total playing time in hours if a standard hours cassette is used (e.g. »

« for a 3 hour cassette) and the elapsed playing time in hours and minutes. If the cassette is protected against accidental erasure, the recorder automatically switches to playback.

Indication of the total playing time

In the case of an E 300 5 hour cassette, you must enter the total playing time in order for the display of the total playing time and elapsed playing time to be correct.

After starting a tape function, the elapsed playing time is indicated in hours and minutes. The display of the recorder indicates, for example: »

Protecting the recording against accidental erasure

Whenever a recording is made on a cassette, any recording already on the tape will automatically be erased. To avoid this, it is possible to protect your cassettes from accidental erasure when making a new recording. To do this, simply break out the record prevention tab on the back of the cassette. If you wish to use the cassette for recording again, cover the hole where the tab should be with adhesive tape.

This also applies to the exceptions where the tape length indication on the cassette and the indication of the total playing time in the display differ.

Optimizing the Picture/Sound Quality

Automatic Tracking

After having inserted a cassette and started playback, the recorder adjusts automatically for the best possible picture quality (Auto Tracking). During this adjustment, the indication: »

This recorder is provided with numerous playback convenience functions.

These convenience functions can be controlled easily with the jog-knob (inner knob) and the shuttle-ring (outer ring) on the front of the recorder.

These convenience functions are very helpful and userfriendly if you wish to edit your recordings electronically (joining or inserting new pictures or scenes to or into existing recordings).

The following settings are possible:

You can adjust the playback speed – forwards and reverse – with the shuttle-ring.

You can advance the individual frames – forwards and reverse – with the jog-knob.

You can adjust the slow motion speed – forwards and reverse – with the jog-knob.

Freeze-Frame Stepping, Forwards or Reverse*

Locating a Certain Tape Position/ GO-TO Function

This function allows you to automatically wind the tape to a certain position.

There are two ways of doing this:

by entering the playing time, or by entering the tape position.

Go-to by entering the playing time

If the tape position is displayed, switch to the playing time display by pressing the

Locating a Certain Recording/ VIDEO INDEX SEARCH SYSTEM

This system allows you to locate the beginning of any of your own recordings quickly and accurately.

For this, electronic "marks" (VISS marks = Video Index Search system) are automatically placed at the beginning of each of your own recordings.

The "marks" can be entered as one or two-digit numbers.

Example:

The tape is wound to the beginning and you wish to see the 5th recording. Press the

button, then the numbered button 5for the fifth mark, and then turn the shuttle-ring to the right.

You will see this in the display of the recorder: »

Preparation

Switch the TV set on.

Select the AV programme position for the recorder on the TV set. This serves as a monitor for checking.

Insert a cassette with sufficient playing time which is not protected against recording.

Selecting a Programme Position – Directly

Entering a Stop Time

There are two methods of entering the stop time: Entering the stop time to the exact minute; Entering the stop time in 30-minute steps.

Entering the stop time to the exact minute

Enter the stop time as a four-digit number with the numbered buttons 1... 0and confirm by pressing the

button.

In the display will see the remaining playing time, then the elapsed laying time, the programme position and the station identification abbreviation.

Entering the stop time in 30-minute steps

Enter the desired stop time by repeaedly pressing the

RECORD

buttons on the remote control or the

buttons on the recorder (max.20 times = 600 minu-

tes).

Changing the stop time

If you wish to change the stop time while recording, press both of the

The recording-pause function is limited to a certain time. After this time, the recorder will switch to stop.

If a stop time is not entered, after a short time the display will switch to the hours/minutes indication and the recorder will continue to record until it reaches the end of the tape. When it reaches the end, the recorder will automatically rewind the tape to the beginning and then switch to stop.

Terminating Recording Immediately

Press the `button to terminate recording.

Recording a Title Line

Title lines can be recorded. See pages 63 and 64 for a description of how to create a title line. Press the

button before or during recording to add the

title line to the recording.

To suppress the title line, press the

button again.

Assembling Recordings with Clean Joints (Assembly Editing)

During playback, locate the tape position where you wish to join the new recording, then press the Kbutton.

Switch the recorder to recording-pause by pressing the two

buttons on the remote control, or press the

buttons on the recorder, and enter the desired pro-

gramme as one or two digits with the numbered buttons

... 0. Start the "new" recording by pressing the Kbutton. When you play the assembled recordings back, you will see smooth joints without any flaws. This is called assembly editing.

Special Features for Sound Recording

The different audio tracks of your recorder

Your recorder offers two methods of recording and playing back the audio track.

The HiFi, or helical track, system. This can be used for stereo and two-channel recordings.

The mono, or longitudinal track, system. This can be used for playback with standard VHS recorders and for dubbing.

Two-Channel Broadcasts

Both sound channels are always recorded on the helical track. Sound channel 1 is recorded on the longitudinal track. When recording a two-channel broadcast, the recorder automatically switches to sound channel 1.

If you press the

button before you begin to record you can select the sound channel and check it on the TV. »1« or »2« appears in the display of the recorder.

Stereo Braodcasts

Both sound channels are always recorded on the helical track. The longitudinal track is for recording in mono.

Basic setting = stereo; the indication: »

display of the recorder.

Sound adjustment, automatic/manual

After selecting the station (= loop-through mode) the recorder automatically adjusts the sound.

If you wish to adjust the sound manually, press the button on the recorder. »

MAN

« appears in the display of the recorder.

Use the

buttons on the recorder to adjust the sound until the first red mark (+1dB) lights up during the loudest passages (+1dB).

The last marks (+3, + 6, +10) should not light up (sound distorted).

When you start the recording, the sound will be recorded on both audio tracks.

Recording Subtitles

Some broadcasts include subtitles for the hearing impaired. The page numbers (e.g. page 150) on which these subtitles are displayed are either announced before such broadcasts or can be found in the Teletext pages "CONTENTS," "INDEX," or "SUMMARY," from A–Z, listed under S (subtitles).

It is also possible to record the subtitles broadcast by the TV stations.

Insert a cassette with sufficient playing time and which is not protected against recording.

Pull out the second level of the remote control.

Enter the desired TV programme with the numbered buttons

Press the

The »Info« menu will appear.

Select the »Teletext« line in the »Info« menu with the numbered button

The Teletext page 100 appears.

Activating Subtitles for Immediate and Programmed Recordings

You can set your recorder so that it automatically records the subtitles offered by the TV stations.

In order to do so, the numbers of the subtitle pages must be entered in the TV Station Table (see pages 17). When you programme a recording, these subtitle pages will be called up automatically.

Pull out the second level of the remote control.

Press the

button. The »Info« menu will appear.

Select the »Special Functions« line in the »Info« menu with the numbered button

7. Record Programming The five Variants

The Recorder can be Programmed to Record at a Later Date.

You can programme:

six broadcasts over a period of 31 days, daily or weekly broadcasts with the same starting time, with or without VPS/PDC control, standard or long-play recordings.

Instructions on record programming with the VPS/PDC signal can be found on the next page.

7. Record Programming

VPS/PDC – the Video Programme System

When making timer recordings, the VPS/PDC system always ensures that the desired programme is recorded completely.

Therefore, incomplete recordings due to programme delays will no longer occur.

Hints for recording with the VPS/PDC system

Many TV stations transmit an additional signal (VPS/PDC signal) which marks the beginning and the duration of each television broadcast.

For this reason it is very important that you enter the start and stop times to the exact minute when programming your video recorder.

The recorder recognizes this starting time delay and only begins to record when the programme actually starts, and stops recording when the programme has actually finished.

Record programming for several broadcasts on the same day

If you wish to programme recordings of several broadcasts on different programme positions on the same day, you must decide which broadcast you wish to record completely if time shifts should occur.

Example:

You want to record a broadcast on the first programme from

20.15 to 21.45 hours and a broadcast on the second programme from 21.50 to 22.30 hours. If it turns out that the broadcast on the first programme lasts 15 minutes longer than expected, the VPS/PDC signal control will ensure that your recorder records this broadcast until

22.00 hours. Only then will the recorder switch to the second programme. That means that you will miss the first 10 minutes of the second broadcast.

If you want to record the broadcast on the second programme from the beginning, you must deactivate the VPS/PDC control when programming recording of the broadcast on the first pro- gramme. The length of the recording will now be determined by the entered start and stop times.

Recording of the first programme will then end at

21.45 hours and the second programme will be recorded starting at 21.50 hours.

Record programming of all the broadcasts on the same day

If you want to record all of the broadcasts (e.g., on Saturday starting at 20.15, an entertainment show, lottery drawing and a movie) from the same TV station (e.g. ARD, the first channel in Gremany) then you have to use a separate TIMER position for each of these broadcasts. Otherwise the VPS/PDC signal would stop recording at the end of the first broadcast.

If you want to record all evening broadcasts (e.g. from 20.15 to 00.15 hours) using only one TIMER position, then you must deactivate the VPS/PDC control when programming..

For confirming or erasing the VPS/PDC signal, please refer to the programming examples.

When recording from TV stations that do not transmit VPS/PDC signals, the recording will only start and end at the start and stop times you entered.

If you are using an aerial positioner and wish to programme satellite programmes from different satellites then you should only programme one VPS/PDC-controlled recording.

Reason: If you programme VPS/PDC signals for two satellite broadcasts, the satellite aerial will move back and forth between the positions of the two satellites. This can put an excessive amount of stress on the aerial motor.

If the "Remaining time" is negative (–) and highlighted in red, then a cassette of insufficient playing time has been loaded, or the sum of all TIMER recordings is too large.

If the message »Record period« appears instead of »Remaining playing time«, then... ... no cassette is loaded; ... the cassette is protected against new recording and will be

automatically ejected.

Creating Title Lines

You can create your own title lines, e.g. you can add them to one of your holiday films.

The holiday film is transferred from a second video recorder or camcorder to your recorder. The remote control and this recorder are used for creating the title lines.

Both signals are then recorded together.

Preparation

Switch the TV set on.

Select the AV programme position for the video recorder on the TV set. You can check the adjustments on the TV screen.

Teletext Operation with this Recorder

Teletext is a service offered by TV stations free of charge; it is transmitted together with the TV signal, processed by the recorder, and then finally made visible on the screen of the TV set. Teletext consists of a large number of text pages containing information such as sports and political news, stock market prices, weather forecasts, and much more.

The Teletext information offered, as well as the organization and set-up of the individual pages, differs from TV station to TV station.

Preparation:

Switch on the TV set.

Select the AV programme position for the video recorder on the TV set.

Pull out the second level of the remote control.

Selecting a TV or satellite programme

Teletext pages you wish to see,

FLOF-text operation

With FLOF-text operation, you are guided by various colours that appear in an Info line on the bottom of the screen. These colours correspond to certain topics or pages. You can call up these topics/pages by pressing the corresponding coloured button “(red, yellow, green or blue) on the remote control.

Example:

Press the numbered button

to call up the »Teletext« line from the »Info« menu. Teletext page 100 appears (=Teletext summary). Press the corresponding coloured button “(red, yellow, green or blue) to select the desired topic or page from the Teletext summary.

Multiple pages

Some page numbers may contain several subpages which are automatically "skipped" by the broadcasting stations. Subpages can be recognized by an insert below the time indication; 1/2 means, for example, that you are viewing the first of two subpages.

If you wish to view a subpage for a prolonged period of time, press the

button.

"Stop" appears in the upper left corner of the screen.

Pressing the

button once again cancels this function.

Enlarging the character size

Normal character size = basic setting. Repeatedly pressing the &button selects: double character size in the upper half of the page; double character size in the bottom half of the page; normal character size in the entire page.

Displaying concealed text

Certain Teletext pages may contain "hidden" information, such as quiz answers or the VPS/PDC times for programming the video recorder.

Press the

button to display the hidden information.

Press the

button once again to conceal the information.

TV broadcasts with subtitles

Some broadcasts are subtitled for the hearing impaired. The page numbers (e.g. page 150) on which these subtitles are displayed are either announced before such broadcasts or can be found in the Teletext pages "Subtitles Preview."

At the beginning of such a broadcast, press the

,button, then the numbered button2, and enter the number of the subtitle page with the numbered buttons 1... 0. The subtitles of the selected TV programme are then visible on the TV screen.

The

button allows you to enlarge the subtitles.

Turning on the volume

Press the

button to turn on the volume.The recording level will also appear in the display of the recorder. Pressing the jbutton again turns the volume back off.

Exiting the Teletext mode

Press the øbutton twice to return to the TV picture.

Inserting New Recordings at a Later Date (Insert Editing)

You can insert new recordings into existing recordings at a later date, for example, certain scenes that are played back from external picture/sound sources.

Preparation

In the playback or the picture search mode, locate the tape position where the recording to be inserted should end, then press the Kbutton and then the button. The tape position is electronically marked. »

Your recorder offers you two different systems for recording and playing back the sound:

The HiFi (helical) track, for stereo and two-channel recordings.

This way you can use your recorder as a HiFi tape recorder with which you can record and play back top quality HiFi recordings.

The mono (longitudinal) track, for playback on standard VHS video recorders and for dubbing).

Adding Sound at a Later Date (Dubbing)

You can add sound at a later date for any of your recordings.

Connecting

Connect the HiFi system to the ňAUDIO sockets on the back of the recorder. R = right channel; L = left channel. The sockets Ňare suitable for connecting an audiomixer (input).

Open the front cover of the recorder.

Connect a camcorder with a commercially available cinch cable to the L AUDIO IN R sockets on the front of the recorder. These sockets are suitable for connecting an audiomixer (output).

Connect a mono-microphone to the MIC socket.

The original sound of the longitudinal track is completely erased, the HiFi (helical) track remains.

Preparation

Insert a recorded cassette into the recorder.

Selecting the programme source

Turn the jog-knob right or left until the desired indication appears in the display of the recorder:

= Connect the sound source to the AUDIO sockets

on the back or the recorder, or

= Connect the sound source to the AUDIO sockets

on the front side of the recorder or to the MIC socket.

Preparing dubbing

In the playback mode, locate the tape position where dubbing is to begin, then press the Kbutton (playback-pause). Display on the recorder: »ll«. Press the button (activates the dubbing-function). Display on the recorder: »

When changing a dubbed cassette you must switch to the mono (longitudinal) track in order to hear the new sound you dubbed. To do so, press the

Checking/Setting the Clock Time and Date

With Teletext operation, the station stored on programme position 1 automatically corrects the clock time.

The Continuous Mode Functions of the Recorder

Your recorder can: Continuously record from different signal sources, e.g. from TV broadcasts or from units that are connected to a corresponding socket.

Play back continuously.

Preparation for the continuous mode functions

For continuous recording, insert a cassette with sufficient playing time.

For continuous playback, insert the cassette to be played. Press the

button to start playback.

Press the

button when you have located the position

The tape is rewound all the way to the beginning where it starts playback. The recorder plays back all the way to the position you marked and then rewinds the tape back to the beginning and starts the playback again.

Terminating the continuous mode functions

Press the >button on the recorder.

The Electronic Combination Lock

Your recorder is equipped with an electronic combination lock. This allows you to lock all functions of the recorder. Even a cassette which is inserted after the lock has been activated cannot be removed until you have unlocked the recorder. You can lock and unlock your recorder quite simply with a code number of one to four digits.

Write your personal code number in the boxes below.

Locking the recorder

Prepare to enter the code number by first pressing the

button and then the Dbutton. You will see this in the display of the recorder: »

Store the code number in the memory with the the

The recorder is now unlocked and you can select any desired function.

Remote Control of Other GRUNDIG Video Recorders

With this remote control you can control different GRUNDIG video recorders independently of each other.

You can use it with your GV 464 and a second recorder of the series VS 600 to VS 900 and the GV 200 and later models. In order to do so, the recorder must be adapted.

Selecting the video level

When the switch is in the VIDEO 1 position, you can control your GV 464; When the switch is in the VIDEO 2 position, you can control the second recorder.

If the switch 1 VIDEO 2 is not set to the selected video level when controlling your GV 464, the indication »

Remote Control of a TV set

With this remote control RP 35 you can also control GRUNDIG colour TV sets that use the remote control TP 590 and up.

Preparation

Press the mains button on the TV set to switch it on.

Point the the remote control at the TV set.

Programme selection
