SAFETY CHECK-OUT
After correcting the original problem, perform the following
safety check before return the product to the customer.
1. Check the area of your repair for unsoldered or
poorly soldered connections. Check the entire
board surface for solder splasher and bridges.
2. Check the interboard wiring to ensure that no
wires are “pinched” or contact high-wattage
resistors.
3. Look for unauthorized replacement parts,
particularly transistors, that were installed during
a previous repair. Point them out to the customer
and recommend their replacement.
4. Look for parts which, though functioning, show
obvious signs of deterioration. Point them out to
the customer and recommend their replacement.
5. Check the B + voltage to see it is at the values
specified.
6. Make leakage - current measurements to
determine that exposed parts are acceptably
insulated from the supply circuit before returning
the product to the customer.

Fault details:
Analysis results:
This problem affects FinePix F710(J) models up to and including serial number 42012000.
Repair details:
Replace the lens unit (M208).
White flaring (overexposure) occurs in shots of bright subjects.
Lubricant has attached to the shutter in the lens, impeding the movement of the shutter at
high speeds so that bright scenes are overexposed and white flaring occurs in the
photographed subject.
1-2. Barrier fails to open/close fully
Fault details:
Analysis results:
Lens barrier open/close defect.
When the lens barrier was disassembled, sand was found between the barrier blades and
the covering sheet (sand in the lens).
Repair details:
Replace the LENS UNIT (M208).
1-3. Lens barrier open/close defect
Fault details:
Analysis results:
Repair details:
Replace the LENS UNIT (M208) (fault inside the lens unit).
Lens barrier open/close defect. (The barrier does not open fully but closes when the lens
retracts.)
The blade on the barrier side has become dislodged from the blade guide boss on the
barrier drive ring.
