SAFETY CHECK-OUT

After correcting the original problem, perform the following safety
check before return the product to the costomer.
FinePix F601 Zoom(U/E/EG) TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
1. Check the area of your repair for unsoldered or poorly
sol dered connections. Check the entire board sur
face for solder splasher and bridges.
2. Check the interboard wiring to ensure that no wires
are pinched or contact high-wattage resistors.
3. Look for unauthorized replacement parts, particu
larly tran sistors, that were installed during a previ
ous repair. Point them out to the customer and rec
ommend their replacement.
4. Look for parts which, though functioning, show obvi
ous signs of deterioration. Point them out to the cus
tomer and recommend their replacement.
5. Check the B + voltage to see it is at the values specified.
6. Make leakage - current measurements to determine
that exposed parts are acceptably insulated from the
supply circuit before returning the product to the customer.
7. CAUTION: FOR CONTINUED
PROTECTION AGAINST FIRE HAZARD, REPLACE ONLY WITH SAME TYPE 2.5 AMPERES 125V FUSE.

FinePix F601 Zoom(U/E/EG) TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
<Case 1>
Problem Fault condition specified by user: The lens does not retract. The lens does not extend.
[! FOCUS ERROR]occurs. The lens is angled.
The zoom does not work.[! ZOOM ERROR] ocurs, etc.
Cause Faulty mechanism in the lens unit.
Repair method
Replace lens unit.
<Case 2>
Problem Fault condition specified by user: Live image not shown. LCD is completely black.
Fault confirmation method: Display a live image in photography mode. In most cases,
the fault indicated by the user can be reproduced and
confirmed. However, occasionally the fault can only be
confirmed by pressing on the FinePix logo imprinted on the
cabinet (R).
Cause Cracked solder on CCD pin (1).
Repair 1.Remove the lens unit from the camera.
method 2.Remove the 2 screws (shown in Fig. 1-(1)) from the lens unit and remove the CCD PWB (FPC).
* When removing the CCD PWB (FPC), take it out slowly.
3. Use a magnifying glass to check the solder mounting location for (shown in Fig. 2-(1))CCD pin
(1) and re-apply the solder.
* As an added precaution, check the soldering on the other pins also.
4.Once you have checked that the soldering is secure, re-install the CCD PWB (FPC) on the lens unit.
5.After repairs are completed, perform a resolution check.

1.Cases of Trouble
<Case 3>
Problem Fault condition specified by user: Streaking appears on the live image.
Fault confirmation method: Use a pattern box (PTB 450) to photograph a white pattern.
Photography conditions: M mode, 1280 x 960
Cause Dust on the CCD surface (O.LPF surface).
Repair method
1.Remove the lens unit from the camera.
2.Remove the 2 screws (shown in Fig. 3-(1)) from the lens unit and remove the CCD PWB (FPC).
* When removing the CCD PWB (FPC), take it out slowly.
3.Use a blower to blow off the dust (Fig. (4)-1) on the CCD (O.LPF) surface.
4.After repairs are completed, perform a resolution check.
(1) (1)
Aperture: F8; Flash: OFF
Shutter speed: 1/105
White balance: Incandescent light mode
Zoom: Fully zoomed (telephoto)
(The photo at left shows an image shot on a faulty camera.)
<Fig. 3> <Fig. 4>
<Case 4>
Problem Fault condition specified by user: Dead pixels in the LCD image
Fault confirmation method:
1. Record the images (2 shown below) to be used to check for dead pixels onto a SmartMedia.
(1)Use a pattern box (PTB 450) to photograph a white pattern (= completely white photograph).
(2)Photograph a completely black image (covering the lens with your hand, etc.).
2.View the images recorded in step 1.
(1)Check that there is no more than 1 dead pixel (completely black, etc.) when the white attern is displayed.
(2)Check that there are no more than 3 bright pixels (white or RGB) when the black pattern is displayed.
Photography conditions: AUTO mode, 1280 x 960
Cause LCD defect
Repair method
Replace the LCD.
<Case 5>
Problem Fault condition specified by user: LCD is completely white.
Fault confirmation method: The LCD is completely white after power ON in photography
mode and playback mode.
Cause: The MAIN PWB ASSY connector (CN551) is not fully locked.
Repair method
Lock the connector (CN551).

<Case 6>
Problem Fault condition specified by user: Flash does not pop up. Button does not move securely.
Cause Fitting defect in the harness attached to the connector from the MODE ST UNIT to the DC PWB
ASSY (CN801).
The harness is trapped in between the pop-up lever and the MODE ST frame.

Repair method
<Rear of the MODE ST UNIT>
Refit the harness.
<Case 7>
Problem Fault condition specified by user: 1. The camera will not turn on.
2. The camera turns on, but freezes during use and will not
operate at all.
Fault characteristics: When the camera is switched on, the current is consistently
between 200 mA and 100 mA.
Fault reproduction method: 1. Supply power to the camera from the DC jack.
2. In photography mode, set the Power Save function to OFF
and leave the camera with the live image displayed.
3. Within 5 to 10 minutes, the LCD picture is disrupted and
camera operation freezes.
-->Subsequently, the camera will not turn on. (Very occasionally
the camera will turn on, but again freezes.)
Cause After IC206 (SD-RAM_CSP IC) was mounted on the MAIN PWB ASSY, adhesive was inserted
between the board and the IC to prevent the IC from falling off (underfilling). However, it was
determined that thermal expansion in the adhesive at high temperatures caused the CSP_IC
solder surface to peel off.
<Conclusion>
A communication fault with the MPU (UCS_IC204) occurred due to solder ball peeling in IC206
(SD-RAM_CSP IC) in the MAIN PWB ASSY.
Repair method
6
<Entire MAIN PWB ASSY> <IC206 enlarged view>
Replace with the corrosion-protected MAIN PWB ASSY* (CB0838-A104).
* On the corrosion-protected board, underfilling is not used on IC206 (no black adhesive is used).

<Case 8>
Problem Fault condition specified by user: The camera will not turn on.
Fault characteristics: When the camera is switched on, the current flows briefly at
50 mA and then immediately drops to 0 mA.
Cause In the MAIN PWB ASSY, the solder balls for IC208 (Flash ROM CSP IC) have insufficient resistance
to peeling.
<Conclusion>
Communication error in the MAIN PWB ASSY between IC208 (Flash ROM CSP IC) and the MPU
(UCS_IC204)/SD_RAM (IC206).
