Fisher Guide: Management of Change-Replacement of Bettis G Series Pneumatic Actuators with Fisher G Series Actuators When Installed on a Fisher Control Valve Manuals & Guides
Management of Change (MOC) is a procedure used to proactively manage changes
that have the potential to impact safety or the process within a plant. Evaluating
new techniques for improving MOC approval procedures can have an impact on
plant efciency. Historically, upgrading obsolete products or replacing existing
process control equipment had been delayed or abandoned due to the extensive
paperwork involved in completing a complex MOC approval sheet.
Background
Emerson introduces the Fisher G Series pneumatic scotch-yoke actuator. The Bettis
G actuator has been used across multiple industries in both on/off and control
applications for many years. The Fisher G actuator will continue to serve those same
applications when installed on a Fisher valve.

A: No.
Q: Does the proposed modication change process chemistry,
technology, or operating and control philosophies?
A: No.
Q: Does the proposed modication change how the existing plant is
operated?
A: No.
Q: Does the proposed modication change process ows?
A: No.
Q: Does the proposed modication change existing pressure relief cases?
A: No.
Q: Does the proposed modication change the process description?

designed changed?
A: No.
Q: Does the proposed modication change the materials of construction,
such as a change in material form (cast, forged, or alloy)?
A: No.
Q: Does the proposed modication introduce new equipment items that
require periodic predictive maintenance?

require spare parts, training manuals, maintenance procedures or
training to teach the maintenance department how to maintain them?
A: Yes. The new equipment requires Fisher G Series instruction
manuals, maintenance procedures, and training for the maintenance
department. However, if you staff have been trained or are familiar
with Bettis G Series actuators, they won’t require more training.
Q: Does the proposed modication introduce new equipment items that
require spares or obsolete spares for existing equipment?
A: Yes. The Fisher G Series introduces a high cycle o-ring not available on
new Bettis G Series actuators.
Q: Does the proposed modication permanently remove the spares for
existing pieces of equipment?
A: Spare parts for existing Bettis G Series actuators and new Fisher G
Series actuators are interchangeable.
Q: Does the proposed modication change the inspection scope or
inspection interval?
A: No.

performed?
A: No.
Q: Have the materials of construction been reviewed to ensure that the
metallurgy is correct?
A: Yes. The Fisher G Series actuator is available in the same materials of
construction as the Bettis G Series actuator.

Branding
The G Series product branding and badging will be Fisher if purchased assembled
on a Fisher valve at an Emerson manufacturing or service location. For service
and repair work, the product badging will remain the same as it was prior to the
maintenance event. New G Series actuators supplied from an Emerson Lifecycle
Service location will be Fisher G Series actuators.

Sales Channel
The Emerson global sales channel sells the Fisher G Series actuator. This same
channel also has access to the Bettis G Series actuator, along with many third party
distributors. Please refer to the Contact Us webpage for Fisher products to conrm
sales coverage for Fisher G Series products.
Third Party Approvals and Certicates
The Fisher G Series actuator is a private label version of the Bettis G Series actuator.
The original Actuation Technologies nameplate and tracking information will
remain on the product. All third party approvals and certicates remain available
for the Fisher G Series through the Bettis G Series actuator compliance to these
approvals and certicates.
Conclusion
The G Series is part of the Fisher actuation product portfolio. The Fisher G Series
actuator retains and adds to the capabilities of the Bettis G Series actuator, making
it a straightforward replacement of legacy products.
Please refer to the Fisher G Series instruction manual for additional information.
