15. To reduce the risk of electrical shock, this unit has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other) and will require the use of a polarized extension cord. This unit plug will fit into a polarized extension cord only one way. If the plug does not fit, obtain a correct polarized extension cord. A polarized extension cord requires the use of a polarized wall outlet. This plug will fit into a polarized wall outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install the proper wall outlet. Do NOT change the unit plug, extension cord receptacle or extension cord plug in any way.
16. Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection should always be provided on electrical circuits or outlets to be used for this unit.
17. When using an extension cord, make sure that it is a cord that is heavy enough to carry the current that your unit will draw. An undersized extension cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating. The table below shows the correct size to use depending on the cord length and amperage rating.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of electrocution, keep all connections dry and off the ground. Do not
touch the plug with wet hands.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Using Your Hedge Trimmer
WARNING: If any parts are
missing, damaged or broken, DO NOT operate the hedge trimmer until they have been replaced. Failure to do so could result in possible serious injury.
WARNING: To prevent
serious personal injury, always use both the front hand grip and the rear handle to hold the hedge trimmer during operation.
WARNING: To prevent
serious personal injury, keep hands away from the blades. DO NOT attempt to remove cut material or hold material to be cut when blades are moving. Make sure that the unit is unplugged when clearing jammed material from blades. DO NOT grasp the exposed cutting blades or cutting edges when picking up or holding the unit.
WARNING: Never use the
safety guard as a handle. Never grasp the unit by the safety guard. Failure to do so can result in serious possible injury.
WARNING: Clear the area to
be cut before starting. Remove all objects such as cords, lights, wire or string which may become entangled in the cutting blade.
DANGER: If the blade
becomes jammed on any electrical cord or line, DO NOT
TOUCH THE BLADE! IT CAN BECOME ELECTRICALLY LIVE AND VERY DANGEROUS.
Continue to hold your trimmer by the insulated handles and immediately disconnect the damaged electrical cord or line from the power source. Failure to heed this will result in serious personal injury and possibly death.
Use the hedge trimmer for trimming and the forming of hedges, bushes and shrubs with a branch diameter of up to 3/8 inch.
For your protection there is safety guard between the front hand grip and the blade.
1. Attach the power cord to an extension cord.
2. Secure the extension cord to the clip holder. (Fig. 3)
Cord Holder
Fig. 3
3. Adjust the length of the extension
handle.
4. Remove the blade cover.
5. Plug the extension cord into an
electrical outlet.
6. With the blade directed away from
you, hold the unit by the rear handle and the front hand grip.
7. Press and hold the safety switch
and then press on the handle trigger.
8. Start the unit away from the
hedges that you wish to trim.
9. If you hear the motor change pitch
dramatically while cutting, it may be overloaded. Check to see if the hedge or bush that you are trimming is very thick or dense. Doing a rough cut to trim about half the height that you want is recommended to help reduce the load on the motor. The maximum thickness of a branch that the hedge trimmer will cut is approximately 3/8 inch. Keep from trimming too much at one time as this can cause the blades to bind and slow, reducing the cutting efficiency. Do NOT force the unit through dense growth. If your blades slow down, reduce your pace.
