2. Before using the battery charger , read all instructions and cautionary markings on (1) the battery charger, (2) the battery, and (3) the product using the battery.

CAUTION
- To reduce the risk of injury , charge only Ericsson battery packs. Charging any other battery pack or batteries may cause the battery to burst and cause perso na l in ju ry or damage.
4. Do not expose charger to rain or snow.
5. Do not use auxiliary equipment not recommended or sold by the manufacturer. To do so may result in a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
6 To reduce risk of damage to el ectric plug and cord, pull by the plug
rather than the cord when disconnecting the charger.
7. Make sure the cord is located so that it will not be stepped on, tripped over, or otherwise subjected to damage or stress.
8. An ext ension cord sh ould no t be used un less absol utely nece ssary. Use of an improper extension cord could result in a risk of fire and electric shock. If an extension cord must be used, make sure:
a. That pins on the plug of the extension cord are the same number,
size, and shape as those on the charger’s plug;

b. That the extension cord is properly wired and in good condition;
and
c. That the wir e size i s la rge en ough for the AC ampe re rat ing o f

10. Do not operate charger if it has received a sharp blow, been dropped, or otherwise damaged in any way; return it to a qualified service shop.
11. Do not disassemble the charger; return it to a qualified service shop whcn service or repair is required. Incorrect reassembly may result in a risk of electrical shock or fire.

13. GROUN DING AN D A C PO WER CORD CONNECT ION -To reduce the risk of electri cal shoc k use o nly a prop erly g rou nded ou tl et. The charger is equipped with an electric cord having an equipment­grounding co nduc tor an d a ground ing plug . Be sure that t he o utle t is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordin an ces .

- Never alter the AC cord or plug. If it will not fit in the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. Improper connection can result in risk of an el ect ric shoc k.
15. The BML 161 54/1,3 charger 120 V ac lin e cord has a g rounding plug that looks like the plug illustrated in Figure l. A temporary adapter, which looks lik e the ad apter i llustra ted in sk etches B and C, m a y be used to connect this plug to a two-pole receptacle as shown in sketch B if a properly grounded outlet is not available. The temporary adapter should be u sed only unt il a prop erly ground ed outl et can be installed b y a qu al if ie d el ect rician .

- Before using an adapter as illustrated, be cer tain the center s crew of the out let plate is grou nded. The green- color rigi d ear or lug extending from the adapter must be connected to a properly grounded outlet--make certain it is grounded. If necessary, replace the outlet cover plate screw with a longer screw that will secure adapter ear or lug to outlet plate and make ground connection to grounded outlet.
17. Care should be taken when placing the charger in service to insure proper top and bottom ventilation. A minimum of 1/4" is required between the bottom of the charger and the surface on which it sits.

Due to th e tempe rature char acteri stics of ni ckel-cadmium bat terie s, the batteries will not accept a fu ll charge at temperature e xtremes. Fo r maximum cap acity, recharg e the bat tery pack at a ro om temp eratur e of 65° to 85° F ahrenheit, whenever possible.

DESCRIPTION
The Dual Desk Charger is designed to charge Ericsson Monogram Series
®
LTR The rear slot is used for fast charging of a portable radio with battery or
independent charging of a battery. This slot charges the battery in 1 to 2 hours.
LTR is a tradename of E.F. Johnson
and ED ACS P ortabl e ra di o ba tt ery packs .

The fron t slot is used for sl ow charging of a p orta ble radio with batte ry or independent charging of a batter y. This slot charges the battery in 14 to 20 hours.

INSTALLATION
Locate the Du al Desk Charger on a desk or other flat surf ace near a 120/2 30 VAC 50/60 Hz sourc e. Con nect t he power ca ble to a co nvenient 120/ 230 VAC outlet .

Refer to Du al Des k Ch arger Mainte nance Manual i f it i s nec essar y to replace printed wiring boards, components, or assemblies.

INDICATORS
1. Rear C ha r ge S lot: For fast char g in g o f a Mo no gra m Series radi o w it h battery or independent charging of batteries. Polarity of battery in charger must be correct, or no charging will occur.
2. Front Charge Slot: For slow charging of Monogram Series radio with battery or independent charging of batteries. Polarity of battery in charger must be correct, or no charging will occur.
3. F AST LED: Flashes when radio or battery is inserted into Rear Charge Slot.
4. SLO W LED: (in F ront Cha rge Slot) i llumin ates when radi o or ba ttery is inserted. SLOW LED: (in Rear Charge Slot) will illuminate when fast charge is complete, or fully charged battery is inserted.
5. Power LED: Indicates AC power is supplied to charger.

CHARGER OPERATION
Rear Ch arge S lot: Inser t ba ttery or radio wit h batt er y into the Re ar Ch arge Slot, obser ving corr ect polar ity. The FAST LED will begin to flash and fast charge begi ns accor din g to the amou nt of cha rge in the batte ry. ( ln the case of a fully discharged battery, the initial charge is executed during the first minute. The FAST and SLOW LED’s will not be i lluminat ed. After the init ial charge, the battery mode will change to fast charge.)
ln the fast charge mode, the BKB 191 204/1 or BKB 191 204/2 battery will take approximately 1 hour to fully charge.
If the initial charge on the battery is over 95%, then the fast charge mode will turn to a "trickle-charge" mode. ln the "trickle-charge" mode, the battery will be maintai ned at full charge , provided the r adio is turned off . The SLOW LED is turned on continuously, and may tur n off momentarily every 34 seconds by the "trickle-charging" current. If the battery is charged to 100% of its capacity, the FAST LED will turn off and the SLOW LED wiIl turn on.

In the slo w cha rge mode, th e BKB 191 2 04/1 or BKB 1 91 20 4/2 bat tery will tak e a pproximatel y 14 hours to fully charge.
NO T E
On occasion when charging a new batter y or a battery which has been out of use for a few months, the charger will prematurely switch to the tric kle cha rge before the batt ery has been fully ch arged . If this happens, allow the battery to continue trickle-charging overnight. Then remove and reinser t the battery and observe that the battery goes throug h a no rmal ra pi d cha rge before puttin g it int o service .

MONOGRAM SERIES W ARRANTY
A. Ericsson Inc. (hereinafter "Seller") warrants to the original purchaser for use (hereinafter "Buyer") that
Equipment manufactured by Seller shall be free from defects in material, workmanship and title, and shall conform to its published specifications. With respect to any Equipment not manufactured by Seller (except for integral pa rts o f S elle r’s Eq uip m en t to whic h th e wa rranties se t forth a bove sh al l a pp l y) . Sel le r gi ves no warranty, and only the warranty, if any, given by the manufacturer shall apply. Batteries are excluded from this warranty but are warranted under a separate Nickel-Cadmium Battery Warranty .
B. Seller’s obligations set forth in Paragraph C below shall apply only to failures to meet the above warranties
(except as to title) occurring within the following periods of time from date of sale to the Buyer and are conditioned on Buyer’s giving written notice to Seller withi n thirty (30) days of such occurrence:
1. for fuses, incandescent lamps, vacuum tubes and non-rechargeable batteries, operable on arrival
only.
2. for parts and accessories (except as n oted in B.1) sold by Seller’s Service Parts Operation, ninety
(90) days.
3. for all other Equipment of Seller’s manufacture, one (1) year.
C. If any Equipm ent fails to m eet t he foregoing warranties, Se ller sh all c orrect th e failure at its op tio n (i) by
repairi ng an y def e ctiv e o r dama ged p art or parts the reof , or ( ii) by maki ng a v ai lab le at Se ller ’ s factory any necessary repaired or replacement parts. Any repaired or replacement part furnished thereunder shall be warranted for the remainder of the warranty period of the Equipment in which it is installed. Where such failure cannot be corrected by Seller’s reasonable efforts, the parties will negotiate an equitable adjustment in price. Labor to perform warranty service will be provided at no change only for the Equipment covered under Paragraph B.3, an d only du ring the first th ree (3) m onths followi ng the da te of sale to the Buyer. Thereafter, labor will be charged a t prevailing rates. To be eligible for no-ch arge labor, service must be performed by an Auth or iz e d S ervic e C e nt er o r other S ervic es approved for these purpos es ei t he r a t it s place o f business dur ing normal business hour s, for m obile or perso nal equipmen t, or at the Buyer’s location , fo r fixe d locatio n equipme nt. Service on fix ed locat ion equip ment more th an thirty (30 ) miles from the Service Center or other approved Service’s place of business will include a charge for transportation. Equipment located off-shore is not elig ible for no-charge labor.
D. Se ller’s obligatio ns u nder Paragraph C sh all not apply to any E quipme nt, or p ar t ther eof, which (i) ha s
been modified or otherwise altered other than pursuant to Seller’s written instructions or written approval or, (ii) is norma lly consume d in operation or, (iii) has a nor mal life inherently s hor ter than the warranty periods specified in Paragraph B, or (iv) is not properly stored, installed, used, maintained or repaired, or, (v) has been subjected to any other kind of misuse or detrimental exposure, or has been involved in an accident.
E. The pr eceding para graphs set forth th e exclusive reme dies for clai ms (except as to title) ba sed upon
defects in or nonconformity of the Equipment, whether the claim is in contract, warranty, tort (including negligence), strict liability or otherwise, and however instituted. Upon the expiration of the warranty period, all such liability shall terminate. The f oregoing warranties are exclusive and in lieu of all other warranties, whether o r al, wri tte n, expressed, impl ie d o r s ta tu to ry. NO IMPL IED O R S TATUTORY W ARRA NTIE S O F MERCHANT ABILITY OR FITNESS FOR P ARTICULAR PURPOSE SHALL APPL Y . IN NO EVENT SHALL THE SELLER BE LIABLE FOR ANY INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, INDIRECT OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES.This warranty applies only within the United States.
