◗ Under normal circumstances, ink will not come out of the cartridge. If it
does get on your skin, wash it off wit h soap and water. If it gets in your
eyes, flush them immediately with water.
◗ Keep ink c art ridges out of th e reach of chi ldren.
◗ Do not dis m antle the ink ca rt ridges or try to re f ill t hem. This co uld
result in da m age to the print head.
◗ Once you install an ink cartridge, do not open the clamp or remove the
cartridge ex c ept to replac e it w ith a new one. Th e c artridge m ay
become unusable otherwise.
◗ Install the ink cartrid ge immediat ely after you remove it from its foil
package . Leaving the c art ridge unpac k ed for a long time before us e
may result in reduced p rint quality.
◗ Do not us e an ink cartrid ge beyond th e date printed on the ca rt ridge
package . Fo r best results , u s e up the ink car tri dges within six months
of installing them.
◗ Do not sh ak e an ink cartr idge; this can c ause leak age.

The type of paper you choose determines the print quality (res olution)
you can use. It’s very important to select the correct setting for your
paper. If you’re not sure which to choose, see Selecting Special Media
5 Choose Color or Black ink.
6 Now make sure the Mode option is set to Automatic. This is the
easiest way to get good printing results for all kinds of documents, on
all ty pes of pape r.
7 Set the slider to Qu ality or Speed. Some Media Types also have an
intermed iat e setting. T his lets you choose from t he fastest pr int ing,
high qual ity printing, or an intermediate se tting (if available) that
balances quality with s peed for the m edia you’re using.
To select 1440 dpi on plain paper or any other av ailable reso lut ion for
your media, you need to access the Advanced dialog box; see
Customizing Print Quality and Special Effects
8 Click the Paper tab and choose your Paper Size, number of Copies,
Orientat ion, and Prin ta ble Area sett ings; see Se lec t ing Paper Options
in Windows for instructions.

Reduce/Enlarge, Print Layout, and Watermark settings. See Choosing

Setting Default Printer Options
When you change printer settings through your software application, the
settings apply only to the application you’re us ing. To adju s t the default
settings for

reopen them to use the new default settings.

The Progress Meter shows the progress of your print job and the status of
your print er. You can use t he buttons to c ancel, paus e, or restart y our

printer. If you run out of paper while printing, for example, th e D espooler
warns you. You can use the buttons to cancel, pause, or restart your print

The Quality/Speed

8 Make sure the Mode option is set to Automatic. This is the easiest
way to get good printin g resul ts fo r all ki nds o f docu ments, o n all types
of paper.
9 Set the slider to Quality or Speed. Some Media Types also have an
intermed iat e setting. T his lets you choose from t he fastest pr int ing,
high qual ity printing, or an intermediate se tting (if available) that
balances quality with s peed for the m edia you’re using. To se lect
1440 dpi on plain pap er or any oth er av ailable res olution for y our
media, you need to access the Advanced dialog box; see Customizing
Print Qualit y and Specia l Ef f ec t s for instructions.
10 Click the Layout icon and check the Fit to Page, Watermark, Print
Layout, and Print Ord er settings. See Choosing Print La yo ut Options
on a Macintosh and Selectin g Print Order Options for details. Then
click OK to return to the printe r s et t ings dialog b ox .
11 Backgro und printing allows you to c ontinue work ing while y our
docume nt prints. To sel ec t bac k ground printing opt ions before y ou
print, click t he Bac k ground Printing icon. See Setting U p
Backgro und Printin g Options for details.
12 If you want t o preview yo ur printout to vie w how the curre nt lay out,
watermark, print ord er, and orien t at ion settings look, click the
Preview ico n, th en click the Pr eview button. See Using Print
Preview on t he Macinto sh fo r details.
13 Click Print when you’re finished checking your set t ings.
If you’ve turned on bac k ground print ing, you can continue working w hile
your docu m ent is printin g. W hile printing , a w indow appears show ing the
printer stat us and the pro gress of your print job. See Using Monitor3
for
details.

Checking Printer Status
If you turne d on background print ing, EPSON M onitor3 automatically
displays t his dialog box when you send a print job to the print er:

You can us e t he Monitor3 dialog box to ch ec k on your print jobs and
cancel, pause, or restart them. The progress bar tracks the status of the
current print job. To cancel, pause, or restart a print job (either the current
one or any job waiting t o print), click the docum ent’s name to highlight it.
Then click one of the follo w ing buttons :

Advanced Printing
When your presentation graphics, photographs, or other projects have
special printing requirements, you can use the advanced settings in your
EPSON Stylus COLOR 900 software. You can choose custom project
types or adjust individ ual setting s li ke brightness, contrast, sharpness,
and halfto ning. For prof essional-quality co lor accura cy, y ou can use a
color management system.
Your printer software’s print lay out options let yo u print almo s t any s iz e
image on y our printer, proof multip le pages on one sheet o f pa per, and
add wate rm arks (not available with W indows 3.1).
