IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
The Connoisseur Series floorstanding models C-5, C-7 and C-9 are equipped with feet
for the speakers' bottom. It is important that these feet are installed properly as they
provide stability and also add to the cosmetic look of the speakers.
The C-5 and C-9 models also include a spacer that is placed between the two front feet.
The C-7 model DOES NOT require this spacer as the cabinet is narrower in width.
Contents:
2 - Front feet 2 - self adhesive rear feet
2 - Round head machine bolts 4 - 1" wood screws
4 - Silver Spikes 4 - Washers
4 - Nuts 4 - Rubber Bumpers
1 - Spacer (comes with Models C-5 and C-9 only)
To attach the feet follow these simple instructions:
1) Place the speaker upside down.
2) Place the front feet in place as per Diagram 2. If you have purchased the models
C5 or C-9, the spacer is to be placed between the two feet. (See the shaded area
in between the front feet on Diagram 2)
3) Insert the Round Head Machine bolts into the two lar ger holes.Tighten with a Philips
head screwdriver
4) Insert the four 1" wood screws into the four smaller holes.Tighten the screws until
they are flush, you may use a powered screwdriver to assist you
if necessary.
5) Decide if you wish to use the spikes (for carpeted floors) or the self adhesive rubber
bumpers (for hard wood or other easily damaged surfaces)
6) If you use the rubber bumpers place two of them on the ends of the front feet. The
rear feet also have a large insert, attach the remaining two rubber bumpers on the
rear feet. Then attach the two self adhesive rear feet to the rear of the cabinet.
7) If you use the spikes, first thread the nuts on to the spike, place the washer over
the end of the spike, and thread it into the insert on the front corners of the two
front feet.
8) To attach the rear feet - do not remove the adhesive backing yet.First, thread the
nuts onto the spikes, and inser t with the washer through the rear foot BEFORE you
remove the adhesive backing and attach to the cabinet.Once properly oriented into
the insert, remove the adhesive backing, and using the spike as a guide to ensure the
foot is properly placed, attach it to the speaker. This will ensure that spike can thread
into the insert without excessive force .
9) Invert the speaker and place upright - repeat for the second speaker.
Please see Diagram 2.
POSITIONING YOUR SPEAKERS
Left and Right Main Speakers (C-1,C-3, C-5, C-7, C-9)
The main speakers are usually placed in the front of the room, on either side of the TV
or video projector. They should be placed a minimum of 6 feet apart, and if the furniture
placement allows, keep them at least 12 inches from the rear wall. To calculate the best
placement, measure the distance between the speakers and the listening position. This
distance should be roughly 1.5 times the width.
For example: If the distance between the speakers and the listening position is 9 feet, then
the speakers should be 6 feet apar t.This will provide the best possible stereo separation
and imaging for music playback. This is also just a starting point, the room's acoustics and
furniture placement will var y the placement of the speaker.Use your best judgment and
don't be afraid to experiment with speaker placement. See Diagrams 3 and 4 for some
basic starting points.
NOTE: If you have the C-1 or C-3 bookshelf models, and wish to mount them on a
wall, there is an insert built into the back of the speaker, located on the top of the
Terminal cup.The little rubber grommet with the "C" needs to removed, and
underneath you will find a threaded insert which is designed specifically for the
MacromountTM available from your local authorized Energy retailer.
Center Channel Speakers (C-C1,C-C3)
The center speaker is ideally placed as close to the center of the TV or video projector as
possible. This is to ensure the voice comes from the performers placement on screen. This
may be on top, underneath, or on a shelf within a wall unit or other fur niture , Use the
position that provides the best sound quality, but keep in mind, safety and room décor as
well. The center channel wor ks best when the front of the cabinet is flush with the TV, or
shelf it rests on. If the center speaker is recessed in its placement, it will sound distant, and
undefined in character. See Diagrams 3 and 4 for some ideas.
Rear Channel Speakers (C-R1)
The rear speakers can var y greatly in position depending on the room layout, and the
furniture placement. The ideal position is either on the side walls, or rear walls.
Side Wall:This position utilizes the rear walls of the room to reflect sound and create the
"surround" effect.
Rear Wall:This is generally used when the rear wall position is not available to you, due
to furniture placement or room dimensions. Both mounting positions have their
advantages and disadvantages, the position offering the best coverage of the entire room
should be chosen.
Please refer to the separate manual included with the C-R1 speaker for details on
placement and mounting instructions.
CONNECTING YOUR SPEAKERS
All of the models in the Connoisseur Series have the same high quality gold plated binding
post connector, so connection to each channel offers the same options. You may utilize
high quality speaker cables,up to 12 gauge, as well as numerous types of connector types
including spade lugs, banana jacks, or pin type connectors. The best connector in our
opinion is the "Spade lug" as it provides more contact with the terminal and allows the
binding post to be tightened for a secure connection.Audiophiles and novices alike have
preferences as to which connector type is best, speak with your Authorized ENERGY
retailer as to which is the best for your Audio Video System. Rest assured, plain speaker
wire is more than acceptable, you can always upgrade your wires and/or connectors
later on.
To Connect your speaker system: Start at one speaker, and connect one channel at a time,
starting with the front speaker s. Always ensure that the entire A/V system is powered off
before performing any connections. The positive and negative (red and black) sides of the
speaker terminals MUST match the positive and negative (red and black) terminals of the
receiver or amplifier. If they do not match, abnor mal sound and a lack of bass response
will result. After connecting the front speakers, connect the rest of the speaker s to their
appropriate channels of the receiver or amplifier. See Diagram 1.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Amplifier Requirements:
All ENERGY Connoisseur Series Speakers are designed to operate on a wide r ange of
receivers and/or amplifiers. The impedance for all models is rated at 8 ohms, allowing
almost any amplifier to function well.Of course, the better the amplifier and the system
components, the better the overall system will sound.
Care of Finishes:
Your ENERGY Connoisseur Ser ies Speaker should be gently wiped clean with a warm, lint
free cloth. Do not use any type of cleaner,or abrasive as they can damage the finish.
