This service letter is intended for anyone who uses an EchoStar satellite receiver with an
EchoNAv user interface. It can be used by both first-time and experienced users who want to
install, use and maintain their receiver.

This procedure supersedes the procedure as given in the user manual from step 15 onwards.
The main differences are:
■ Select Easy or Advanced installation,
Easy installation helps you to do the initial setup procedure where Advanced allows you to
program the receiver as required for non-standard installations.
■ Add a new satellite,
In a satellite field you can select any known satellite in range from the database or add
your own defined satellite with the use of the S00 satellite.
■ Add a new transponder,
In a transponder field you can select any known transponder from the database or add
your own defined transponder with the use of the TP00 transponder.
NOTE
From the next step onwards, the procedure is divided in different configurations. The
configurations are; Fixed, Motorized and SMATV.
■ Fixed means set up a single dish or multiple dishes with DiSEqC1..4 switch;
■ Motorized means set up a moveable dish (motor/actuator by positioner);
■ SMATV means set up for television distribution (cable network in buildings).

The software of the receiver contains the EchoNAV user interface with on-screen help, which
gives you easy control over the features of the receiver. The software contains also a large
database of pre-programmed satellites and transponders which are used for a quick
installation. For initial installation, the software guides you through the required setup menu to
allow for an easy and reliable installation setup of the receiver.
FEATURE HIGHLIGHTS
The highlights for this version are:
■ New menu languages added;
Portuguese, Dutch.
■ Revised help lines and related translations;
All menu texts are revised to give more support and information. All menu languages are
translated accordingly.
■ Several small menu changes incorporated:
- LNB power option in system setup menu for SMATV deleted,
- Time zone option in Local time menu deleted,
- Software identification in About EchoStar menu is changed to show EchoNAV version.
■ Revised subtitle behavior;
Greek and Russian subtitle support is added.
■ Multi-lingual language support for EPG added;
If available form the service provider, EPG language is shown in the language which is set
for the menu language (user preferences - Languages - Menu).
■ Revised conditional access to support smartcards type PC2.4;
The embedded Viaccess smartcard reader is revised to support the latest generation of
PC2.4 smartcards as used by several service providers who use Viaccess encryption.
■ Revised channel numbering for Current SAT list;
The Current SAT list is revised to have it’s own channel numbering. Therefore the channel
numbering (only for Current SAT) starts at 1 for each satellite. Note that also the satellite

■ New installation menus added for multiple LNB support;
The installation menu is revised to support Easy and Advanced installation. In the
advanced installation you can define user defined LNBs where the Easy installation allows
for the installation of pre-defined LNBs.

The Add SAT, Add TP, and Add PID are combined in one menu Add data.
■ New option to add satellite or transponder during initial installation setup added;
Add Data menu is accessible from the initial setup and after installation from the channel
list through the ‘white edit’ menu.

■ DVR timer modified to allow for recording a relative time block;
The DVR timer is directly accessible after a recording is started. You can set the stop time
either in absolute time (13:00 hr) or relative time (+ 00:15 min).
■ Updated satellite/transponder database,
You have to perform a factory reset to activate the database, failing to do so keeps the
previous database active.

A highlighted button shows you which (main/sub) menu is selected. The MENU key lets you
change between the main and sub-menu where thekeys let you make a selection in the
selected (main/sub) menu. The OK key brings you into the related page, where you can make
a choice from the available options.
NOTE
Once in a page, at any time:
■ you can use the MENU key to reverse from a menu page to the sub-menu bar;
■ you can easily leave with the EXIT key.
■ The button, that gives you access to the User Preferences menu;
■ The button, that gives you access to the installation setup menu;
■ The button, that gives you access to the Conditional Access menu.
2.1.THE USER PREFERENCES MENU
This main menu has different sub-menus that give
access to the pages where you can customize the
factory settings.
The user preferences menu always comes in view with
the User Profile sub-menu. In the menu bar the
sub menus are shown at the right side. The available
sub menus are shown as icons which become a
highlighted button after selection.

To tell the receiver that it is connected to a Dolby
Digital amplifier or not.
■ RGB-Sync
To switch the RGB-sync signal, which is required by
monitors only, to On (monitor) or Off (TV).

To select the standard or a personal background

This sub-menu allows you to customize the local time settings. For the correct operation of
the EPG and the timers, it is necessary to set the local time correctly. You can customize:

access to the pages where you can customize the
settings to match your personal requirements.
Note that the sub-menus are dynamic which means that
they change with the selections you make.
The installation setup menu always comes in view with
the system setup sub-menu. In the menu bar the
sub menus are shown at the right side. The available
sub menus are shown as icons which become a

This sub-menu allows you to customize the system setup to match your installation. Note that
the menu page is dynamic which means that it changes with the selections you make. You

2.2.5. ABOUT ECHOSTAR - INFORMATION PAGE
The About EchoStar information page gives all the where-to-contact-Information about
EchoStar and the status information about the receiver. You can view:
■ Company
This field shows the full name of EchoStar.
■ Address
This field shows the address of EchoStar.
■ EchoNAV
This field shows the current software version
loaded into the receiver.
■ Boot version
This field shows the current boot version loaded
into the receiver.
■ Internet site
This field shows the EchoStar web site where you
can find the latest user and software information.
2.2.6. SOFTWARE UPGRADE - SUB-MENU
This sub-menu allows you to upgrade the receiver’s software.
EchoStar provides free-of-charge software updates Over-The-Air (OTA) which means that
you can upgrade your system via the satellite.
If you are not able to receive the satellite/transponder, you always can free-of-charge,
upgrade the software through the SERIAL PORT (RS-232) at the rear of the receiver with use
of the dedicated EchoNAV Loader and the downloaded software from the EchoStar website.
Read the enclosed instructions of the downloaded file before you use the EchoNAVLoader.
■ OTA settings
To select a default (selection Factory1 for Hotbird or
Factory 2 for Astra1) or user defined satellite where
you want to download from.

2.2.7. FACTORY RESET - SUB-MENU
This sub-menu allows you to reset the receiver to the initial factory settings. The Memory User settings option restores the factory settings over your personal settings. All personal
settings like parental control and favorites will be replaced with the factory default settings.

To instruct the receiver to delete all personal
settings and restore the factory default settings.
■ Hard disk - Recordings
To instruct the receiver to delete (only) all TV and
Radio recordings from the hard disk.
■ Hard disk - MP3 Songs (DVR-7000 series only)
To instruct the receiver to delete (only) all
MP3 songs from the hard disk.
■ Hard disk - Backgrounds
To instruct the receiver to delete (only) all the
personal backgrounds from the hard disk.
■ Hard disk - EPG Data
To instruct the receiver to delete (only) all
scheduled EPG data from the hard disk.
■ Hard disk - Photos (DVR-7000 series only)
To instruct the receiver to delete (only) all photos
from the hard disk.
■ Confirm
With this field you can confirm the selection made
and execute the selected procedure. After the
erase procedure is finished, you are taken to the
initial setup procedure. (for detailed instructions,
please refer to section Installation).

The photo InfoBanner shows the information related to the actual image.

■ The i-button, to indicate that there is detailed information available;
■ The additional information bar, to show the additional service icons. The icons are:
- the icon, to show that the All Photo list is selected, not grouped, not sorted;

3.3.3. CHANNEL INFORMATION
With the InfoBanner shown, you can press the i-key once or twice to access extended
channel information, if available first you view the extended program information, secondly
you can view the technical channel information (transponder, polarity, symbol rate and PIDs).

3.4.1. SAT LIST
This pop-up menu gives you the possibility to choose
directly from the available satellites. You can call up the
pop-up menu with the satellite key on the remote control
unit.
4.THE INDEX MARKERS
4.1.INDEX MARKER SHOWS IN THE INFOBANNER
With the InfoBanner shown, you can see the set index
marker(s), at the marked position, in the progress bar of
the DVR recording.
The index markers are shown as vertical lines.
The (previous) and the (next) key are available
to jump from one index marker to another index marker.
For the MP3 and photo mode (DVR-7000 only):
The (previous) and the (next) key are available
to jump from one song or photo to another song or
photo within the selected list.
When you press the key during the playback of a
recording, the DVR stops and automatically adds the so
called ‘Last played’ index marker.
This index marker indicates the location where you
stopped to play back a recording (just like a video tape).
There is only one ‘Last played’ index marker which
shows in the DVR list.

5.THE TIMERS
5.1.DVR STOP TIMER
This pop-up menu gives you the possibility to choose
directly a stop time for the recording. You can call up the
pop-up menu with the record key (press twice) on the
remote control unit after a recording is started.
■ Set stop time
If available from the EPG, the program end time is
shown;
■ Duration
You can define a period for which the timer
continues to record.
The selection for Group (yellow key) and Sort (blue key) are kept until you change
the selection. The selection is made visible in the InfoBanner with icons.

You can only lock a channel if you have set the parental lock and the PIN-code

2.USE THE FAVORITE LISTS
Navigation and use of the favorite lists are the same as for the all channels and current
satellite list as described before. The main difference is that you can setup and organize the
favorite lists as required. EchoStar has already pre-named the favorite lists to help you getting
started. It is however possible to change the name of the favorite list to something that is
meaningful to you.
For adding channels quickly, you can use the group and sort option first to limit the amount of
channels where you want to choose from. As an example, now it is possible to add all sport
related channels in one step to the Sports TV favorite list.
Note that for each mode, a separate number of favorite lists is available.

2.1. USE THE INFOBANNER RELATED FUNCTIONS
2.1.1. DETAILED PROGRAM INFORMATION
1. On the RCU, press the i-key to get the
InfoBanner.
2. If available, allow the receiver to collect the EPG
information for the selected channel.
3. If the i-button in the InfoBanner is shown,
use the i-key on the RCU to shift between the
detailed program information and the InfoBanner.
4. On the RCU, press the EXIT key to remove the
InfoBanner from the screen (only in TV-mode).

1. On the RCU, press the i-key to get the

4. On the RCU, press the i-key to remove the
information from the screen.
3.TO SELECT ANOTHER SATELLITE
1. On the RCU, press the key.
2. In the Satellites List pop-up menu, select the
required satellite.

Note that the dish moves towards the selected

The use of the photo album is similar to the use of the MP3 player. You can select
a photo from a list and ‘play’ the photo to view it. If you press play key, the list starts
to behave as a ‘slide show’, all photos in the list will be shown with a selectable
time interval.
5.1.PLAY BACK A PHOTO
1. On the RCU, press the OK key.
2. Select the PHOTOS mode.
3. Read the available help text for information.
4. Select a photo, either:
a. use the arrow keys;
b. use the page + / - keys;
