EchoNAV User Interface
Preface
PREFACE
INTRODUCTION
EchoNAV is a family of user interfaces which are dedicated for a specific range of digital
satellite receivers. Every digital satellite receiver is equipped with different options. Some
options are related to the EchoNAV User Interface, others are related to physical options as
Common Interface slots, Embedded reader, display or not, etc.
Please note that this user manual contains the information for the most comprehensive
model. Sometimes yo u find that an option is not available on you r receiver which means that
you can ignore the related descriptions and instructions. Please refer to the specifications of
your receiver to find the available options that are present in your model.
DOCUMENTATION
This user manual is part of the documentation set that comes with your EchoStar satellite
receiver. The documentation set contains the user manuals:
■ User Manual - Receiver Description;
■ User Manual - EchoNAV User Interface - Fixed.
Sometimes you can also find a Manual update which describes the last minute changes to
either the receiver itself or the EchoNAV User Interface which are not described in the user
manuals that come with your EchoStar satellite receiver.
INTENDEDUSE
This document ation s et is intend ed for a nyone who u ses a n EchoStar sa tellit e recei ver. It can
be used by both firs t-time and experienced users of s atellite re ceivers w ho want to in sta ll, use
and maintain their receiver.
This user manual gives an explanation and an instruction on the use of the EchoNAV user
interface and is divided into separate sections and chapters. For easy access to the
information, a clear table of content and an index are provided.
If your receiver has Conditional access capabilities:
For pay-service s, please on ly use Com mon Interf ace (CI) modu les and th e related Sm artcard
which are approved by the service provider of the encrypted program you want to receive.
Only this will enable the receiver to work properly.
Anomalies can occur when an unapproved CI-modules and/or Smartcard is used. EchoStar
can not and will not accept any responsibility for the performance of such CI-modules and/or
smartcards. If you use an unapproved CI-module and/or Smartcard, EchoStar is no longer

4.THE EPG MENU STRUCTURE
RedGreenYellowBlueWhite
The key gives access to the EchoNAV EPG menu, that helps you to control the
different timers and to view the information in the Electronic Program Guide (EPG).
NOTE
Most digital channels broadcast program data as an EPG. Digital channels that
broadcast EPG offer you program information in advance for a certain period of time.
The EPG information is not always available. Sometim es the se rvi ce provi der su pplies
only the progr am name , the now/ne xt in formation or s ometime s nothin g at a ll. EchoStar
has no influence on this matter.
The EchoNAV EPG makes use of the EPG, i-key and the color keys on your Remote Control
Unit (RCU) to allow for quick access to the different EPG and timer functions. W hen th e E PG
menu shows:
■ The (Red) key gives access to the different modes: TV, Radio, or Lists.
■ The (Green) key gives, depending on the selected m od e, access to the different lists:
All channels, Current SAT, (pre-named) Favorite lists or Timer list.
■ The (Yellow) key gives access to the different timers:
None (default), VCR (Video Cassette Recorder) or Reminder (wake up of the receiver)
CAUTION
Note that the VCR timer does not start or program your video recorder (VCR). You have
to set the timer of your VCR also to the same time as on the receiver. Please refer to
the user’s guide of your VCR how to record from a satellite receiver.
On quite a lot of VCRs you have to select the so called external channel (E1).
■ The (Blue) key gives you the possibility to zoom in or out on the program information
fields. You can set the zoom factor to: 5, 15, 30 minutes, 1 or 2 hours.
■ The (White) key gives you access to the calendar where you can directly jump to
another date. With this feature it is not necessary to scroll through the EPG window to
select a program in the future.
■ The key gives, if a vailable from the serv ice prov ider, access to the detailed pr ogram
information of the current selected program. Sometimes the information is not directly
available, if necessary allow the receiver to collect the detailed program information.
■ The key, when you scroll through the program information fields, brings you
immediately back to the current time as indicated by the red line in the EPG window.

EXPLANATIONOFTHE SEARCHMODE:
■ All; the built-in database is used to select the
available transponders. The digital channels that
belong to these transponders are searched for and
added to the end of the All channels list.
■ FTA; the built-in database is used to only search for
the available Free-To-Air channels which are then
added to the end of the All channels list. In the real
world it seems that the service providers do not
always accurately code their channels with a
scrambled or FTA code. For this reason you may
find that some searched channels are Scrambled.
Also there is a possibility that FTA channels are
coded as Scrambled These channels will then be
missed out because of the erroneous code.
■ Network; the built-in database or information from
the received stream is used to search for the
transponders that are included with the currently
received network. The digital channels tha t belong to
this network are searched for and added to the end
of the All channels list.
■ TP; the built-in database or information from the
received stream is used to search for or scan in the
selected transponder. The digital channels that
belong to this transponder only are searched for or
scanned in and added to the end of the All channels
list.
■ Digital IF; the currently received satellite is scanned
for digital channels. The digital channels, within the
tuner bandwidth and selected symbol rates are
scanned in and added to the end of the All channels
