1600/6400-N4X-RD
1.0 Description
The Detcon Model 1600-N4X-RD and the 6400-N4X-RD are remote displays for the host Model 1600 and 6400 Control Systems respectively. The 1600-RD is configurable for up to 16 channels and the 6400-RD is configurable for up to 64 channels. They are read only display devices, which show the visual status of the Model 1600 and 6400 Controllers (respectively).
The status of gas inputs are displayed on a backlit graphic LCD display that uses a touch-screen user interface. Typical input status indications include channel number, tag name, gas type, concentration, and alarm/fault status. Depending on the users preference, the Model 1600/6400-RD can also be programmed to display the alarm and relay status of the 1600/6400 Controller. The 1600/6400-RD also has onboard data logging to record all alarm, fault and maintenance incidents.
The remote display is powered by 110/220 VAC. The enclosure is rated for NEMA 4X locations.
A Remote Alarm Reset Switch is mounted on the left side of the enclosure that can be wired to the Model 1600/6400 Controller. This switch provides easy access to the controllers Alarm Reset without having to access the Model 1600/6400 Controller.
2.0 System Configuration
2.1 Hardware Configurations
The 1600/6400-RD is a “user configurable” read only remote display. Connection to the 1600/6400-RD is made via a three wire serial interconnect cable to the Model 1600/6400 Controller. The 1600/6400-RD is treated as another device on the addressable serial loop. See Figure 2 for interconnectivity.
2.2 Programming Configuration
The 1600/6400-RD is normally configured at Detcon based on the application specific information provided by the customer on the Model 1600/6400 Configuration Form (found in the 1600/6400 Controller Manual).
NOTE: The configuration of the 1600/6400-RD must duplicate that of the Model 1600/6400 Controller that it is connected to in order to operate properly. This includes all site-specific information pertaining to:
1) Number of gas channels
2) Range, units and gas type for each channel
3) Alarm level(s) for each gas channel
4) Tag Name for each channel
5) Assignment and set-up information for each relay contact (Optional only if user wants to track relay out status)
NOTE: the set-up configuration is fully field-programmable and can easily be entered or charged by the user in the field by following the instructions within this Operators Manual. Modifications to the set-up configuration are expected to take place at the customer site due to requirements changes and/or system expansions.

Before applying power, make sure that all wiring is terminated correctly.
NOTE: Applying power with devices hooked up incorrectly may cause damage.
Turn the AC Breaker switch to the ON position. Verify that the main touch-screen LCD comes up displaying gas readings on the display. You should also verify that the Controller module is being polled by observing a sequence of blinking LED’s on the backside of the remote display’s control module. Check to make sure these display readings are identical to those at the Model 1600/6400 Controller.

5.0 Operator Interface
5.1 Using the Touch-screen Display
The Operator Interface is conducted through a graphic touch-screen backlit display. A suitable small blunt device such as the Detcon stylus wand should be used to conduct touch-screen interaction.
NOTE: Sharp objects such as pens, pencils, screwdrivers…. etc. will permanently damage the display and void the warranty. The use of fingertips to activate keys is permissible, but is difficult due to the small press key areas in some cases. A pencil’s eraser tip is a suitable alternative.
In general, displayed items that are outlined with a box represent Press Keys. Press Keys should be firmly pressed down for about 0.5 seconds to engage properly. They will illuminate momentarily when activated properly.
The graphic display has backlighting that turns on after any touch-screen activity. It turns off automatically after 1 minute of touch-screen inactivity. Backlighting will automatically be maintained during any abnormal condition. The contrast and backlighting can be adjusted using the ‘Screen Utilities’ function described in section 5.4.
5.2 Main Display
The main display shows the status of the active gas channels. They are labeled by channel number, reading, units and gas type. Example: CH1 - 0ppm - H2S. Under non-alarm condition, if the line entry is pressed it will momentarily display the tag name for that channel. Example: CH1 Well Head #7.
When there is an active alarm or fault condition, the CH1 will be shown in reverse video. If this line entry is then pressed, the current alarm/fault status will alternately be displayed. A channel number in reverse video represents a channel that is actively in alarm/fault or has cleared alarm/fault but was set to lat ching mode for the relay output.

Figure 3 Main Display

Channels are displayed in user selectable groups of up to eight per screen, called ‘Zones’. The ‘Zones’ are represented by keys labeled across the bottom of the main display as Z1 and Z2 for the 1600 and Z1 through Z8 for the 6400. To view a particular ‘Zone’ press the appropriate key on the screen. During normal operation, the display will rotate between zones at 10-second intervals, displaying each zone for 10 seconds and moving on to the next zone.
1600/6400-N4X-RD- Instruction Manual Rev. 1.0 Page 4 of 16
1600/6400-N4X-RD
The controller may be configured to have less than eight channels per ‘Zone’. Only those ‘Zones’ with active channels will be displayed. When any channel in a ‘Zone’ has an alarm or fault condition, the ‘Zone’ key will begin to flash, and the controller will automatically display the channels in that ‘Zone”. When there are alarms or faults in multiple ‘Zones’, the controller will display each zone for 10 seconds and rotate to the next ‘Zone’. The display will continue to rotate through each ‘Zone’ until a ‘Zone’ key is selected by the user.
The main function keys reside across the bottom of the Main Display area. They are: Program Menu, Alarm Reset, Alarm Silence, and Cal Mode.
Program Menu takes the operator to the functions for configuration, set-up and data retrieval.
Alarm Reset Has no function in the Remote Display. A Remote Alarm Reset Switch is mounted on the left
side of the enclosure, that when properly wired to the Main Controller provides the Alarm Reset function.
Alarm Silence Has no function in the Remote Display.
Cal Mode Has no function in the Remote Display.
