Installation Precautions
This equipment is not designed for making emergency telephony calls when the power fails. Alternative
arrangements should be made for access to emergency services. Access to emergency services can be
affected by any call-barring function of this equipment.
ISDN-BRI Interface
A Cisco one-port ISDN-BRI WAN interface card with an S/T interface can be installed in any interface
card slot in a Cisco 2600 series, Cisco 3600 series, or Cisco 3700 series router, where it provides one
ISDN-BRI connection at the S-reference point. A WIC of this type supports S-bus sharing, and does not
require a dedicated S-bus connection for each ISDN port. The ISDN usage is restricted to point-to-point
mode only.
To ensure that common network timing exists between the ISDN ports, the ISDN network connection
must be provided by a single network vendor or public telecom operator (PTO). Connection to multiple
vendors or operators may result in lost (nonrecoverable) data packets because of timing slips.
A WIC of this type can be installed in any compatible host chassis with no impact on the capabilities,
functionality, or performance of the BRI WAN interface card.

FCC Part 15 Notice
Cisco 2600, 3600, and 3700 series routers comply with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject
to the following two conditions:
1. This device may not cause harmful interference.
2. This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired
operation.
Modifying this equipment without Cisco’s authorization may result in the equipment no longer
complying with FCC requirements for Class A or Class B digital devices. In that event, your right to use
the equipment may be limited by FCC regulations, and you may be required to correct any interference
to radio or television communications at your own expense.
NOTE: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device,
pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against
harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This equipment
generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with
the instruction manual, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. Operation of this
equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference in which case the user will be
required to correct the interference at his own expense.
Compliance with FCC Part 68 Requirements
This equipment complies with Part 68 of the FCC rules. On the bottom of the chassis is a label that
contains, among other information, the FCC registration number and ringer equivalence number (REN)
for this equipment. If requested, this information must be provided to the telephone company.

Agency Compliance
If this equipment causes harm to the telephone network, the telephone company will notify you in
advance that temporary discontinuance of service may be required. If advance notice is not practical, the
telephone company will notify the customer as soon as possible. Also, you will be advised of your right
to file a complaint with the FCC if you believe it is necessary.
The telephone company may make changes in its facilities, equipment, operation, or procedures that
could affect the operation of this equipment. If this happens, the telephone company will provide
advance notice in order for you to make the necessary modifications to maintain uninterrupted service.
Normally, this equipment will be used in conjunction with FCC registered equipment that limits the
Encoded Analog Content that provides the required Billing Protection. If the connected equipment is not
of this type, an affidavit must be supplied to the telephone company where the network connection is to
be made. The affidavit is to be notarized, and is to be filed at least ten days before the initial connection.
The facility interface and service order codes are shown in Ta b le 2.
Cisco 2600 series, 3600 series, and 3700 series routers bearing labeling identification number
5B1USA-27857-MF-E comply with the following requirements:
• FCC Rules and Regulations 47 CFR Part 68
• TIA/EIA/IS-968, Technical Criteria for Terminal Equipment to Prevent Harms to the Telephone
Network, July 2001, as adopted by the Administrative Council on Terminal Attachments (ACTA)

This Class A digital apparatus complies with Canadian ICES-003.
Cet appareil numèrique de la classe A est conforme á la norme NMB-003 du Canada.
Equipment Attachment Limitations
The Industry Canada label identifies certified equipment. This certification means that the equipment
meets certain telecommunications network protective, operational, and safety requirements as
prescribed in the appropriate Terminal Equipment Technical Requirement Documents. The Department
does not guarantee the equipment will operate to the user’s satisfaction.
NOTICE: This equipment meets the applicable Industry Canada Terminal Equipment Technical
Specifications. This is confirmed by the registration number. The abbreviation, IC, before the
registration number signifies that registration was performed based on a Declaration of Conformity
indicating that Industry Canada technical specifications were met. It does not imply that Industry Canada
approved the equipment.
Before installing this equipment, users should ensure that it is permissible to be connected to the
facilities of the local Telecommunications Company. The equipment must also be installed using an
acceptable method of connection. In some cases, the companies inside wiring associated with a single
line individual service may be extended by means of a certified connector assembly (telephone extension
cord). The customer should be aware that compliance with the above conditions might not prevent
degradation of service in some situations.
Agency Compliance
OL-10259-02
Repairs to certified equipment should be made by an authorised Canadian maintenance facility
designated by the supplier. Any repairs or alterations made by the user to this equipment, or equipment
malfunctions, may give the telecommunications company cause to request the user to disconnect the
equipment.
Users should ensure for their own protection that the electrical ground connections of the power utility,
telephone lines, and internal metallic water pipe system, if present, are connected together. This
precaution may be particularly important in rural areas.
CautionUsers should not attempt to make such connections themselves, but should contact the appropriate
electrical inspection authority, or electrician, as appropriate.
NoteThe Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) for this terminal equipment is 1. The REN assigned to each
terminal equipment provides an indication of the maximum number of terminals allowed to be connected
to a telephone interface. The termination on an interface may consist of any combination of devices
subject only to the requirement that the sum of the Ringer Equivalence Numbers of all the devices does
not exceed five.
