QUICK START GUIDE
Cisco Unity Express 8.6 Voice-Mail System
Set Up Your Voice Mailbox and Select the Language
If this is yo ur first time acc essing Cisco Unity Express and you do not h ave a PIN, you must call from your extension.
1. Dial the internal or external number to call Cisco U nity E xpress .
2. If asked for a PIN and you have one, enter it and press .
You are prompted to set up a recorded name and personal greet ing an d chan ge you r password. To exit , pre ss .
To create a recor ded na me tha t iden tifies you to cal lers:
1. The system states you have no recorded name. To record a name, press .
2. At the tone, say y our fi rst an d last name. When done, p ress .
3. Your newly recor ded name plays. Press to keep it, or to rerecord.

To record a personal greeting :
1. The st andard greeting (“ Sorry, <ext ension xxxx>/ <usern ame> is not available”) plays. To keep this greeting , pres s .
2. To record a new s tandar d gree ting, press . Speak your g reetin g. Whe n done , press .
3. Your newly rec orded gr eeting plays. To accep t this greeting and contin ue, pr ess . To rereco rd, pr ess .
To change y our pa ssword :
1. Enter your new pas sword, which must be at least 3 digi ts. Pr ess wh en don e.
2. Re-enter your new passwo rd, th en pre ss .
To change t o anot her av ailabl e lang uage:
1. Choose Setup Options, th en Language Option s.
Access Cisco Unity Express by Phone
Dial t he Cis co Uni ty Exp ress v oice-m ail sy stem phone number.
If asked for a PIN, enter it and press . Note: If you are c alling from someon e else ’s phone, you must press to enter your own ID (usually your exte nsion) and p ress . Then enter your P IN and press again.
If you are aske d for your I D (usu ally y our extension), enter it and press . Then enter your PIN and press again .
Access Cisco Unity Express by Computer
1. From Microsoft Internet Explorer or Firefox, enter
the hostname or IP address of your Cisco Unity Express server using the format http://<hostname>/user or https://<hostname>/user
2. Log in to the appl icatio n usin g your user ID and password .
You can change your mail box settings, change your password, create distribution l ists, modify your user profil e, and set up voice-m ail notifications (if enable d).

Listen to Messages

Pre ss to listen to new messages.
Pre ss to listen to old mess ages, then:
Press to list en to saved messages.
Press to list en to deleted mes sages.

Send a Message
1. Perform the steps in “Ac cess C isco U nity
Express by Phone”
to rea ch the main
voice-mail m enu.
2. Press to send a message.
3. Address message by name (defau lt), o r pres s
to switch from addressing by name t o addressing b y numb er (ex tensio ns or distri bution lists ). For exten sions at rem ote locati ons, e nter t he loc ation ID before the extens ion nu mber. Press
to co nfirm select ion. Pre ss to add another name, or go to next step .

If activated by your adm inistrator, you can search the g lobal direct ory for user names when ad dressing a me ssage by name . Press .
4. Press to start and to sto p reco rding.
Note: If you hang up at any po int af ter record ing yo ur mes sage, or before se lectin g a message option, and you have already addres sed th e mess age, y our me ssage is sti ll sent. To cancel sending , press
to return to
the previous menu, or go to St ep 6.
5. Press for additional mes sage opti ons and to addres s mess age (i f not done ea rlier) , or go to next step.
6. Press to send.
7. If activ ated by your ad minist rator, press to
leave another mess age fo r the same mailbox , or to leave a message for another mailbox.
