This product bulletin describes the content and delivery information concerning Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.2(25)EZ. Cisco IOS Software
Release 12.2(25)EZ is a short-lived early-deployment release parented to Release 12.2(25)SEB and supporting the Cisco® 16-, 23-, 24-, and 48-Port
10/100 EtherSwitch service modules (part numbers NME-16ES-1G-P, NME-X-23ES-1G-P, NME-XD-24ES-1S-P, and NME-XD-48ES-2S-P,
respectively). These modules are used with the Cisco 2691, 2800, 3700, and 3800 series routers. This release contains all the new features delivered
in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(25)SEB.
The network module support delivered with this early-deployment release will be incorporated into Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(25)SEC
and subsequent Cisco IOS Software releases. It is important to note that no maintenance releases are planned for this early-deployment release. In addition, note the migration path to the latest SEB release shown in Figure 1. Customers should prepare to upgrade using this migration path.
NEW FEATURES IN CISCO IOS SOFTWARE RELEASE 12.2(25)EZ
Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(25)EZ delivers support for the new Cisco EtherSwitch® service modules. Cisco EtherSwitch service modules
are enhanced network modules that can be inserted into the Cisco 2691, 2800, 3700, or 3800 series routers (refer to Table 1).
Table 1. New Cisco EtherSwitch Service Module Supported in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(25)EZ*
* Each Cisco EtherSwitch service module runs a version of the Cisco Catalyst® 3750 with Cisco IOS Software separate from the host router Cisco IOS Software
image. It should be noted that Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(25)EZ will not run on the router itself but only on the Cisco EtherSwitch service module. The
minimum Cisco IOS Software image for the host Cisco 2600, 2800, 3700, or 3800 is Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3(14)T.
The next section lists documents that address details about these new features. Any early-deployment release of software should be used first
in a test network before being deployed in a production network.
DETAILED INFORMATION
Cisco EtherSwitch Service Modules
The new Cisco EtherSwitch service modules, greatly expand the capabilities of integrated switching within Cisco routers by providing support
for new features such as IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE), local Layer 3 switching, Cisco Network Administrator and Cisco Emergency
Responder, and Cisco StackWise interfaces (available on NME-XD-24ES-1S-P only), as well as software feature parity with Cisco Catalyst
3750 Series switches. Additionally, the new Cisco EtherSwitch service modules are the first modules that can take full advantage of the
increased performance capabilities and new form factors of the enhanced network module slot on Cisco integrated services routers. Four new
Cisco EtherSwitch service modules are being released in conjunction with Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(25)EZ; these new modules are
described in Table 2.
Table 2. Part Numbers and Descriptions of New Cisco EtherSwitch Service Modules
Part Number Product Name and Description
NME-16ES-1G-P
NME-X-23ES-1G-P
NME-XD-24ES-1S-P
One 16-port 10/100 Cisco EtherSwitch Service Module with 802.3af, 1 10/100/1000 port, and IP Base
One 23-port 10/100 Cisco EtherSwitch Service Module with 802.3af, 1 10/100/1000 port with 802.3af, and IP Base
One 24-port 10/100 Cisco EtherSwitch Service Module with 802.3af, 1 Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) interface,
Cisco StackWise connectors, and IP Base
NME-XD-48ES-2S-P
One 48-port 10/100 Cisco EtherSwitch Service Module with 802.3af, 2 SFPs, and IP Base
These new modules can be loaded with Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(25)EZ and used within a host router that is loaded with a minimum
of Release 12.3(14)T. Table 3 describes the platforms that these new Cisco EtherSwitch service modules can be used with. Because the Cisco
EtherSwitch Service Module operates independently of the host router, new versions of the Cisco Catalyst 3750 with Cisco IOS Software can be
loaded on the Cisco EtherSwitch Service Module independent of the host router Cisco IOS Software. This high degree of modularity of software
code helps enable the Cisco EtherSwitch Service Module to maintain feature parity with other Cisco Catalyst 3750 switches without impacting the
host router IOS code.

The Cisco EtherSwitch service modules use the same Cisco IOS Software images as the Cisco Catalyst 3750 Series switches in future Cisco
Catalyst 3750 releases with Cisco IOS Software. However, Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(25)EZ is for use only with the Cisco EtherSwitch
service modules. Table 4 describes the images and feature sets available with Release 12.2(25)EZ.
