10.Power Sources — The CA-570 Compact Power Adaptershould be operated only from the type ofpower source indicatedonthe marking label. If you are not sure ofthe typeof powersupply to your home,consult your product dealer or localpower company. Regarding other power sources such asbattery power, refer to instructions in this manual.
11.Polarization — The CA-570 Compact Power Adapteris equippedwith a polarized 2-prong plug(a plughaving one blade wider than the other).
The 2-prong polarized plugwill fitintothe power outlet only one way. This isa safetyfeature. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into theoutlet, try reversing the plug. Iftheplug still fails tofit, contact yourelectrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeatthesafety purpose ofthepolarized plug.
12.Power Cord Protection — Power cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon oragainstthem. Pay particularattention to plugs andthe point from which the cords exit the product.
13.Outdoor AntennaGrounding — If an outside antenna is connected to theproduct, be sure the antennais groundedso as toprovide some protection againstvoltage surges and built-up static charges.Section810 of the National ElectricalCode, ANSI / NFPA No. 70—1984, provides information with respect to proper grounding ofthe mast and supporting structure, grounding of the lead-in wireto an antenna discharge unit,size of grounding conductors,location ofantenna discharge unit, connectionto grounding electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode.See figure 1.

15.Overloading — Do not overload wall outletsand extension cords asthis can result in a risk of fire orelectric shock.
16.Objects and Liquid Entry — Never push objects ofany kind into this product through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock. Be careful not to spill liquid ofany kind onto the product.

18.Damage Requiring Service — Disconnect
this product from the wall outlet and all
power sources including battery, and referservicing toqualified service personnel under the following conditions:a.When the power-supply cord or plug is

Using a Household Power Source
Connect to a household powersourceto use thecamcorderwithout worryingaboutthe battery power. You can keep the battery pack attached; the battery power will not beconsumed.
1.Turn the POWER switch to OFF.
2.Connect the power cord to the power adapter.
3.Plug the power cord into a power outlet.
4.Connect the power adapter to the camcorder’sDC IN terminal.
Turn off thecamcorder before connectingor disconnecting thepoweradapter.Ifthe adapter is used close to a TV, it may cause picture interference. Move the
adapter awayfrom the TVor the antenna cable.
Donot connect any products that are not expressly recommended to the
camcorder’s DC IN terminal or to the power adapter.
Youmay hear some noise fromthe poweradapterduring use. Thisisnot a
malfunction.
Do not disconnect and reconnect the power cord while charging a battery pack.
Chargingmay stop.Thebattery packmay notbe charged correctlyeven if the CHARGE indicator glowssteady. Thebattery pack may also not be chargedcorrectly when a power outageoccurs during charging. Remove the batterypack and attach it backtothe camcorder.
When the power adapter or battery pack is defective, the CHARGE indicator
flashesrapidly (atabout2 flashes/second) and chargingstops.
The CHARGE indicatorinformsyouabout the chargestatus.

We recommend chargingthe battery pack in temperatures between 10°C and
30°C(50 °F and 86 °F). Outsidethetemperature range of0°C to 40 °C (32 °Fto 104 °F), theCHARGEindicator flashesrapidly and chargingstops.
A lithium ion battery pack can be charged at any charge state. Unlike
conventional batterypacks, you do not needtocompletely use ordischargeitbefore charging.
We recommend that you prepare batterypacks 2 to 3 times longer thanyou
think you mightneed.
To conserve battery power, turn off the camcorder instead of leaving it in record
pause mode.

Loading/Unloading a Cassette
Use only videocassettes marked with the logo.
1.Slide the OPEN/EJECT switch and open the cassettecompartment cover.
The cassettecompartment opens automatically.
2.Load/unload the cassette.
•Load the cassette withthe window
facingthe grip belt.
•Unload thecassette bypulling it straight
out.
3.Press the mark on the cassette compartment until it clicks.
4.Wait for the cassette compartment to retract automatically and close the cassette compartment cover.

Do not interfere with the cassette compartment while it is opening or closing
automatically, or attempt to close the cover before the cassette compartment has fully retracted.
Becareful not to get your fingers caught in the cassette compartment cover.
Ifthe camcorder is connected to a power source, cassettes can be loaded/unloaded even if the POWER switch is set to OFF.
Installing the Backup Battery
The backup battery (lithium button battery CR1616) allows the camcorder to retain date,time (
22) and othercamcorder settings while the power sourceisdisconnected.
Connecta powersource to the camcorderwhen replacing the backupbattery to retain thesettings.
1.Press the OPEN button to open the LCD panel.
2.Pull out the battery holder.
3.Place the lithium battery with the + side facing downward into the battery holder.
4.Insert the battery holder.
5.Close the LCDpanel.

The backupbattery has a lifespan of about a year. “” flashes in red to informyou that it needs tobereplaced.

Preparing the Camcorder
Adjusting the Viewfinder (Dioptric Adjustment)
1.Turnon the camcorder and keep the LCD panel closed.
2.Pull out the viewfinder.
3.Adjust the dioptricadjustmentlever.
4.Push the viewfinder back in.
Attaching the Lens Cap
1.Attach thecord to the lenscap.
2.Pass the grip beltthrough the loopon the cord.
Press the buttons on the lens cap when attaching/removing it.Hook the lens caponthe gripbeltwhile you are recording,and place it over the lens when you havefinished.
Fastening the Grip Belt
Hold the camcorder with your right hand and adjust the belt with your left.
Adjust the grip belt so that you can reach the zoom lever with yourindex finger,andthe start/stop button with yourthumb.

Pass the ends through the strap mount and adjust the lengthof the strap.

Mounting the Wide Attachment
TheWA-34 Wide Attachment gives you a wide perspective for indoorshotsor panoramicviews (0.7x). The wide attachmentis for use atmaximum wide-angle.
Screw the wide attachment fully into the lens filter thread.
Donot lookdirectly atthe sun orother stronglight sources throughthe wide
attachment.It could damage youreyesight.
If you zoom to telephoto, the picture will not be in focus.The wide attachment may obstruct the remote sensor(the range of the wireless
controller narrows), or may cause a shadow to appear on the picture whenrecording with the assist lamp.
Filters cannotbe usedwith thewide attachment.If dust accumulates on thewide attachment oron the camcorder lens, clean
both lensesgentlywith a blower brush.
Donot touch the lens to avoid smudges and fingerprints.Do not store the wide attachment in a humid place as it may mold.

Using the Wireless Controller
Point it at the camcorder’s remotesensor when you press the buttons.
Inserting the Battery
The wireless controller operates with a lithium button battery CR2025.
1.Press thetab in the direction of the arrow andpullout the battery holder.
2.Place the lithium button battery with the + side facing up.
3.Insert the battery holder.

The wireless controller maynot work properly when the remotesensor is
subjected to strong light sources or direct sunlight.
If the wireless controller does not work, check if the remote sensor is set to
[OFF]( 77).
When the camcorder cannot be operatedwith the wireless controller, or when it
can only beoperated in veryclose range,replacethe battery.
Adjusting the LCD Screen

Press theOPEN button and open theLCD panel 90 degrees.
•You can rotatethe panel downward by 90
degrees.
•You can rotatethe panel by 180 degrees
toward the lens.
LCD Backlight
You can switch the brightness of the LCDscreen between normal and bright bypressing the LCD BACKLIGHT button. This is useful foroutdoor recordings.

Press the LCD BACKLIGHT button.
This setting does not affect the brightness of the recording or the viewfinder
screen.
When using a battery pack, the camcorder retains the setting even if you
changethe position ofthe POWERswitch.
The batteryusagetime shortenswhen the LCDscreen is set brighter ( 15).

Recording
Recording Movies on a Tape
Before YouBegin Recording
Make a test recording first to check if the camcorder operates correctly. If necessary,clean the video heads (142).

1.Remove the lenscap.
2.Set the camcorder to CAMERA mode.
Set the POWER switch to CAMERA and the TAPE/CARD switch to .
3.Push the OPEN button at the LCD panel and open the LCD panel.
4.Press the start/stop button to begin recording.
Press the start/stop button again to pause recording.
When You Have Finished Recording
1.Turn the POWER switch to OFF.
2.Close the LCDpanel.
3.Replace the lens cap.
4.Unload the cassette.
5.Disconnect the power source.

About the LCD and viewfinder screen: The screens are produced with
extremely high-precision manufacturing techniques, with more than
99.99% of the pixels operating to specification. Less than 0.01% ofthepixels may occasionally misfire orappearas blackor greendots. This hasno effecton the recorded image and does not constitute a malfunction.
The camcorder will shutoffafter5minutes when leftin recordpause
mode toprotecttapeand video heads. “AUTO POWEROFF”appears 20 seconds before shutoff. To continue recording, turn the POWER switch to OFF and then backto CAMERA.
Wait until the tape counter stopscompletely before you start recording.When you donot remove the cassette, you can record the next scene without
producing any noiseor blank sections between the recordings even if you turn the camcorder off.
Bright light may make it difficult to use the LCD screen. In such case, use the
viewfinder instead.
When recording near loudsounds (such asfireworks,drums or concerts),
sound maybecome distortedor maybe recorded notin the actual soundlevel.This is not a malfunction.
Allowing the Subject to Monitor the LCD Screen
You can rotate the LCD panel so that the screen faces in thesame direction as the lens. The viewfinder switches on allowingyou to use the viewfinder while the subjectcanmonitorthe screen.The image appearsmirrorreversed (LCD MIRROR ON).However, you can choose to displaythe imageas it is being recorded (LCD MIRROROFF).

When [LCD MIRROR] is set to [ON], only tape or card operation and self-timer
displays appearon the LCD screen (all displays appear onthe viewfinderscreen).

Screen Displays during Recording
Remaining battery charge
The battery symbol indicates the chargestatus of the batterypack.
•“” starts flashing in red whenthe battery packis empty.
Time Code
Indicates the recordingtime in hours,minutes and seconds.
Remaining tape
Indicates the remaining time of the tapeinminutes. “” moves duringrecording. “END” flashes whenthe tape reaches the end.
•When the time left is less than 15 seconds, the remaining tape time may not appear.
•Depending on the type of the tape, the indication may not be displayed correctly.
•When you attach an emptybattery pack, the power may turn off without displaying “”.
•The actual battery charge may not beindicated accurately depending on thecondition under which battery pack and camcorder are used.
When “” flashes
“”flashes in red when the lithiumbutton battery is not installed, orwhen itneeds replacing.
Recording reminder
The camcorder counts from 1 to 10seconds whenyoustart recording. This is helpfultoavoidscenes that are too short.

In record pause mode, this function allows you to review the last few seconds of your recording to check if it has beenrecorded properly.

The camcorder rewinds thetape, plays back the last few seconds,and returns to recordpause mode.

In record pause mode, this function allows you to play back the tape (forward orreverse)to locatethe point where you wishtobeginrecording.

Move the zoom lever towardWto zoom out (wide-angle). Move it toward Tto zoom in (telephoto).
Press the zoom lever slightly for a slow zoom. Press harder for a faster zoom.
You can also use theT and W buttons on the wireless controller. However, you
cannot control the zoom speed.
The zoom speed is slightly faster in recordpause mode.Keepat least 1 m (3.3ft.) to the subject.At wide-angle, you can focuson a
subject as close as 1 cm (0.39 in.).
