Indicator light
When first switched on:
Solid Red = The noise dose monitoring is not active.
To activate noise dose monitoring please refer to point 2 in
Setting up, page 5.
Flashing Red = fault, do not use. Call the Helpline.
During normal use
Flashing Green = secrecy on
Turning Green to Red = noise monitor. When the light is solid
red, it is recommended that the agent has an appropriate
break from taking calls.
This will start your noise dose
monitoring without the need to
connect to a computer or
alternatively visit the website
www.bt.com/defender for
instructions on how to download the
software and set the date and time.
If there is a power failure, the
BT Defender 100 will display a solid
RED. This is to inform the user that
noise dose monitoring needs to be
reactivated.

Using your BT Defender 100
BT Defender 100 – Edition 2 – 03.02.04 – 5655
10
The ‘Startle’ effect is when a loud
noise startles you, causing a sudden
contraction of the neck and shoulder
muscles. This can lead to neck and
back injuries.
Volume
1. Press to increase and to lower the earpiece
sound level.
Secrecy
1. Press once to switch off the microphone.
The indicator light flashes green and you can talk to someone
else without your caller hearing you.
2. Press again to resume your call. The indicator light
returns to its noise monitor setting.
Sudden loud noises
If your caller makes a sudden loud noise – shouting, blowing
a whistle, loud hailer etc – all of which have happened – your
BT Defender 100 instantly reduces the sound level to a safe
level. This helps protect your ears and prevent injuries caused
by the ‘Startle’ effect.
IMPORTANT
When the Secrecy function is
switched On with some call centre
systems, you can unplug your
headset while remaining on a call,
the caller will be kept on hold.
This could enable your system to
hold a call while you disconnect for
a minute to attend to other business.
Each time you disconnect your
headset, the volume returns to the
original setting. This ensures
different users will always find the
same volume setting when they
connect their headset.
