temperature, press and hold this button for 1 full second.

Sensor

Measures temperature. It will move out when the start button
is pressed.

Washable ring

This is where the sensor is located. The soft washable ring gently
touches the skin behind the ear when measuring temperature.

Screen

The screen displays (green) if no fever, (yellow) when the
temperature is slightly elevated and a (red) alert for fever.

Low battery
indicator

Indicates when the battery needs to be replaced.

Memory

Pressing this button will recall the last 8 readings.

Braun behind ear thermometer instruction manual

The Braun behind ear thermometer has been carefully developed for
accurate, safe and fast temperature measurements.

However, as with any thermometer, proper technique is critical in obtaining
accurate temperatures. Therefore, read the use instructions carefully and
thoroughly.

Warnings and precautions

1. Do not use thermometer for 20 minutes on skin if exposed to hot
or cold temperatures such as direct sunlight, fireplace heat, cold
(compress), direct air conditioning air flow, swimming, bathing, etc.

2. Do not place the thermometer on scarred tissue or tissue
compromised by skin disorders.

3. Do not use on patients in trauma or patients treated with certain
drug therapies.

4. Do not take temperature from the side on which the patient was
laying on - use the opposite side.

5. Do not expose the thermometer to temperature extremes
below -20°C or over 50°C nor excessive humidity
(> 85% non-condensing relative humidity).

6. Do not use this thermometer if the operating ambient temperature
range is below 10C° or over 40C° .

7. Do not mount the battery with the positive sign facing down. The
thermometer will not work.

8. This thermometer is intended for household use only.

9. Use of this thermometer is not intended as a substitute for consultation
with your physician.

10. Readings from the right side of the patient’s head may differ from the

left - therefore it is preferable to take all temperatures on the same
side of the head.

How does Braun behind ear thermometer work?

Braun behind ear thermometer is a hand-held, battery powered device
designed to measure human body temperature with a special sensor that
accurately and gently detects heat flow through the skin directly behind
the ear lobe using the heat conduction effect and prediction techniques.
The thermometer calculates heat flow through the skin and by use of a
mathematical algorithm estimates the internal body temperature. The
temperature reading range of the thermometer is from 34°C to 42.2 °C and
the reading time is about 1 second.

Why measure behind the ear?

The skin area behind the earlobe is over the posterior auricular artery which
is a branch of the carotid artery. The carotid artery carries blood to the brain
and therefore the site is the best external place to measure temperature.

Body temperature

Normal body temperature is not a single number – it’s a range. Many people
incorrectly believe that 37°C is the only normal temperature. Yet, it’s just an
average number. Each person has their own normal range which fluctuates
throughout the day. It is, therefore, important to determine your normal
temperature range. A person’s normal (healthy) temperature range tends to
decrease with age.

The following table shows that this normal range also varies by the
measurement site. Therefore, readings from different sites should not be
directly compared.

Normal temperature ranges by site:

Axillary: 34.7 – 37.3 °C
Oral: 35.5 – 37.5 °C
Rectal: 36.6 – 38.0 °C
Ear: 35.8 – 38.0 °C
Behind ear: 35.0 – 37.6 °C

Practice taking temperatures on yourself and family members to determine
their normal temperature ranges.

First time use

1. Remove display plastic decal.

2. Pull out the plastic strip that is sticking out of the battery door on the

back side of the thermometer. No need to open the battery door. This will
activate the battery.

How to take a temperature

1. Press the power button.

2. Wait for OK.

3. Place the green ring of the product on the neck behind the ear lobe.

4. While holding thermometer in that spot, press and hold the start button.

When the unit beeps, release start button. (Takes about one second.)

5. Temperature displays.

6. Wait 10 seconds for the count-down to take additional temperatures.

7. Thermometer will shut off automatically after 60 seconds.

Temperature taking hints

• External factors may inuence accuracy, including when an individual has:

– been recently swimming or bathing.

– been lying on the side where the temperature is taken from. Never take

temperature from the side on which the patient was laying on. Use the
opposite side.

– been recently exposed to hot or cold air temperatures. Wait at least 20

minutes after the patient was moved to a room with normal operating
conditions.

• Readings from the right side of the patient’s head may differ from the

readings taken on the left side of the head. Therefore, preferably take all
temperatures on the same side of the head.

Memory mode

Braun behind ear thermometer stores the last 8 temperatures readings.
After turning power on, the last temperature is always briefly displayed.

• To retrieve the last 8 readings, press the “M” button when

the thermometer has <OK> shown on the display. The
display will show the most recent temperature with the

corresponding reading number. Pressing the “M” button

will show additional readings.

• The memory mode is exited either automatically if the “M” button is no

longer pushed or by pressing the power button.

Care and cleaning

• If the sensor needs to be cleaned or disinfected,

push and hold the start button to move the tip out of
the washable ring and gently wipe the sensor and
the washable ring with the Q-tip or piece of cotton
dampened with alcohol. Allow to dry for at least 5
minutes before measuring temperature.

• Use a soft cloth to clean the thermometer display and exterior. The cloth

can be slightly dampened with water or alcohol.

• Do not use abrasive cleaners. Never submerge this thermometer in water

or any other liquid.

• Store thermometer in a dry location at room temperature free from dust

and contamination and away from direct sunlight.

• Do not put it under running tap water or immerse it in the water.

Low battery indicator and replacing batteries

• If the low battery indicator appears on the display, it is

time to replace your battery. The thermometer takes one
3V lithium battery (CR2032).

• Open the battery door by lifting the battery door using

your finger .

• Use a pen tip or similarly sized item and press the tab upward toward the

head of the thermometer. The battery will pop up. Remove battery.

• Insert a new CR2032 battery with + sign facing out. Push the battery

down until snaps.

To protect the environment, dispose of empty batteries

at appropriate collection sites according to national or
local regulations.

사용 설명서

브라운 귀밑 체온계는 정확하고, 안전하며, 신속하게 체온을 측정할
수 있도록 개발되었습니다.

다만, 다른 체온계와 마찬가지로 올바른 방법에 따라 사용하셔야
체온을 정확하게 측정하실 수 있습니다. 그러기 위해서 이
사용설명서를 끝까지 주의깊게 읽은 다음에 사용해주시기 바랍니다.

경고 및 주의사항

1. 피부가 직사광선, 난로 열, 추위 (수축), 직접적인 에어컨 바람,

수영, 목욕 등과 같이 뜨겁거나 차가운 온도에 노출된 경우, 20분
동안 피부에 체온계를 사용하지 마십시오.

2. 흉터가 있는 조직이나 피부질환으로 손상된 조직에 체온계를

적용하지 마십시오.

3. 특정한 약물요법으로 치료를 받고 있는 환자나 외상이 있는

환자들에게는 사용하지 마십시오.

4. 환자가 누워있을 때에 바닥에 닿아있는 쪽의 귀밑에서는 체온을

측정하지 마십시오. 반대쪽의 귀밑에서 체온을 측정하십시오.

5. 영하

20°C미만 또는50°C를 초과하는 극한의 온도나 지나치게

높은 습도에 (> 85% 비응축 상대습도) 체온계를 노출시키지
마십시오.

6. 사용하는 주변의 대기온도의 범위가

10°C미만이거나40°C를

초과하는 경우에 이 체온계를 사용하지 마십시오.

7. + 표시가 있는 배터리의 면이 아래로 향하도록 넣지 마십시오.

이렇게 하면 체온계가 작동하지 않습니다.

8. 이 체온계는 가정용 제품입니다.

9. 의사의 진료를 대신할 목적으로 이 체온계를 사용하지 마십시오.

10. 환자의 오른편 귀밑에서 측정한 체온이 왼편 귀밑에서 측정한

체온과 다를 수 있습니다. 따라서, 동일한 방향의 귀밑에서 계속
측정하는 것을 권장합니다.

브라운 귀밑 체온계의 동작원리?

브라운 귀밑 체온계는 열전도 효과와 예측기술을 적용한 특수센서를
이용하여 귀불 아래의 피부에서 체열을 정확하고 부드럽게
감지하도록 개발된 휴대용 제품입니다. 이 체온계는 피부를 통해
전달되는 체열을 계산하고, 수학적 알고리즘을 사용하여 내부 체온을
추정합니다. 체온 측정범위는 34℃ ~ 42.2℃이며, 측정시간은 약 1
초 입니다.

왜 귀밑에서 측정하나요?

귀밑 피부는 경동맥 분지에 해당되는 후이개동맥 (posterior
auricular artery)의 위쪽에 해당됩니다. 경동맥은 뇌로 혈액을
전달하기 때문에 이 부위는 외부에서 체온을 측정하기에 가장 정확한
위치입니다.。

체온

정상 체온이란 특정한 체온을 말하는 것이 아니라, 일정한 범위의
체온를 말합니다. 대부분의 사람들은 37°C만 정상적인 체온이라고
잘못 알고 있습니다. 그러나, 이것은 단지 평균값입니다. 각각의
사람들은 자신의 고유한 정상 체온 범위가 있고, 이는 하루 중에도
수시로 변합니다. 그러므로, 귀하의 정상 체온 범위를 알고 있는
것이 중요합니다. 한 사람의 정상(건강한) 체온 범위는 연령에 따라
감소하는 경향이 있습니다.

아래 표는 한 사람의 정상 체온의 범위도 측정 부위에 따라
달라진다는 사실을 보여줍니다. 그러므로, 다른 부위에서 측정하여
얻은 체온을 직접 비교해서는 안 됩니다.

측정 부위별 정상 체온 범위:

겨드랑이: 34.7 – 37.3 °C
구강: 35.5 – 37.5 °C
직장: 36.6 – 38.0 °C
귀: 35.8 – 38.0 °C

귀밑: 35.0 – 37.6 °C
개인별 정상체온의 범위를 알기 위해서는 본인과 가족의 체온을
지속적으로 측정하십시오.

처음 사용할 때

1. 화면 보호 필름을 제거합니다.

2. 체온계 뒷면의 배터리 뚜껑 사이로 튀어나온 플라스틱 스트립을
제거합니다.

체온 측정방법

1. 전원 버튼(Power Button)를 누릅니다.

2. 화면에 OK가 표시될 때까지 기다립니다.

3. 귀밑에 제품의 녹색 링을 댑니다.

4. 측정지점에 체온계를 댄 상태에서 시작버튼을 누릅니다.
체온계에서 ‘삐’하는 소리가 나면, 시작버튼에서 손을 뗍니다.
(약 1초 정도 소요됩니다.)

5. 체온이 화면에 표시됩니다.

6. 추가로 체온을 측정하려면 10초를 기다립니다.

7. 체온계는 60초 후에 자동으로 꺼집니다.

체온 측정 요령

• 다음의 상태에서 측정하였을 때에는 외부 요인에 의하여 체온의
정확성에 영향을 미칠 수 있습니다:

수영이나 목욕을 한 직후

–

높거나 낮은 기온에 노출되었을 때에는 이 체온계가 정상적으로

작동할 수 있는 방으로 환자를 옮긴 후 최소한 20분이 경과한
다음에 측정하십시오.

• 환자의 오른편 귀밑에서 측정한 체온과 왼편 귀밑에서 측정한
체온이 다를 수 있습니다. 따라서 동일한 쪽의 귀밑에서 계속
측정하실 것을 권합니다.

메모리 모드

이 체온계는 가장 최근에 측정한 8회의 체온측정값을 저장합니다.
전원을 켜면 가장 최근에 측정한 체온이 잠깐 표시됩니다.

• 가장 최근에 측정한 8회의 체온측정값을 검색하려면 체온계의
표시화면에 <OK>가 표시된 상태에서 “M”
버튼을 누릅니다. 화면에 가장 최근에 측정한
체온이 표시됩니다. “M” 버튼을 누르면 추가적인
측정값이 표시됩니다.

• 메모리 모드는 “M” 버튼을 누르지 않거나 전원
버튼을 누르면 자동으로 종료됩니다.

관리 및 청소

• 센서가 청소나 소독이 필요한 경우, 시작버튼을
눌러 온도센서 팁이 링의 바깥으로 나온 상태에서
온도센서 팁과 링을 알코올에 적신 면봉 또는
탈지면으로 부드럽게 닦아줍니다. 세척한
다음에는 최소한 5분 동안 말린 다음에 체온을
측정하십시오.

• 체온계 표시 화면과 외부 표면을 닦으려면 물이나 알코올에 살짝
적신 부드러운 천을 사용합니다.

• 마모성 세정제를 사용하지 마십시오. 이 체온계를 물이나 다른
액체에 절대 담그지 마십시오.

• 먼지와 오염물질이 없는 실온의 건조한 장소에 직사광선을 피하여
보관하십시오.

• 흐르는 수돗물 아래에 제품을 놓아두거나 물속에 제품을 담그지
않습니다.

배터리 부족 표시등 및 배터리 교체하기

• 화면에 배터리 부족표시 표시등 (Low Battery)
표시가 나타나면 배터리를 교체할 시기가 되었음을
말해줍니다. 이 체온계에는 3V 리튬 배터리 1개
(CR2032)가 사용됩니다.

• 손끝으로 배터리 도어를 들어올려서 엽니다.

• 배터리 가장자리에 나와 있는 작은 금속 클립을 바깥쪽으로 살짝

밀면 배터리가 위로 올라옵니다. 펜의 팁이나 유사한 크기의
기구를 이용해서 체온계의 위쪽방향으로 탭을 눌러주면, 배터리가
튀어나옵니다. 그런 다음 배터리를 제거하십시오.

• + 표시가 보이는 면이 위에서 보이도록 새 배터리(CR2032)를
삽입합니다.

환경을 보호하기 위해서 사용한 배터리는 해당 국가 또는

해당 지역 규정에 따라 적절한 수거 장소에 폐기하십시오.
