using a shielded CAT 5 cable.
CAUTION: Shielded EIA/TIA 568B straight CAT 5 cable, or equivalent, is required for proper AmpLink operation.
Unshielded cable is not supported and may cause AmpLink audio to operate improperly.
The EX-1280C transmits on the first 8-channels of AmpLink. Select the corresponds channels on the amplifier
using the amplifier’s rear panel switch settings.
6. Make Remote Control Connections
The EX-1280C conferencing processor provides an RS-485 port (CC-16) for connecting compatible Bose®
controllers, and a RS-232 port (SERIAL) for connecting other industry-standard control systems.
CC-16 Port
Use the CC-16 port on the rear panel to connect a Bose ControlSpace CC-16 controller. Complete the RS-485
network connection using the included 3-pin Euroblock connector. For more information on how to wire these
connections, see the CC-16 installation guide available at pro.Bose.com.
You can network up to fifteen (15) CC-16 zone controllers to control the EX-1280C or any device on the Bose
ControlSpace control network. An external power supply is required. Note that in addition to wiring the A and
B terminals, it is highly recommended to connect the ground terminal from the EX-1280C to each CC-16 zone
controller. The maximum distance from the EX-1280C to any CC-16 is 610 m (2000 ft).
Serial Port
Connect industry-standard control systems to the EX-1280C using an RS-232 connection to the SERIAL port.
Complete the RS-232 connection using the included 3-pin Euroblock connector.
The 3-pin connector for the EX-1280C corresponds to the pinouts of a DE9 connector as follows:
Five control inputs (GPI) and five control outputs (GPO) are available on the rear panel of the EX-1280C. Use
these to interface the EX-1280C with external control hardware.
General Purpose Inputs
General-purpose control input ports are used to connect external hardware such as potentiometers (to control
levels or gains) and switches (to set logic states). Use ControlSpace Designer software to easily assign functions
to these external controls.
Using Switches
Both toggle switches and pushbuttons can be
used with control inputs. Each input terminal
is tied to an internal pull-up resistor (2k ohm)
so that external switches can be wired directly
from input to ground
General Purpose Outputs
Using Potentiometers
10k ohm potentiometers can be connected
and associated with control gain blocks in a
system design. Inputs are compatible (through
ControlSpace Designer software) with linear
taper potentiometers wired for minimum
resistance at the full-clockwise position or at
the full-counterclockwise position.
Current Source Devices
Some devices such as LEDs and low-current
relays can be powered directly from control
outputs. A maximum source current of 10 mA
is available.
Source Limits: 8 VDC, 10 mA (max.)
20 - Installation and Operation Guide
Current Sink Devices
Devices that require more current than is
available from a current-source configuration
can use control outputs to sink up to 100 mA
when used with external power supplies. Use
proper precautions when driving inductive
loads.
Sink Limits: 100 mA (max.). External supplies
must be ≤ 24 VDC.

indicators are green, verify that the loudspeakers are not being overdriven and are not
damaged.
• Verify that the EX-1280C processor is fully booted. The Power/Status indicator LED should
appear solid white.
• Verify that the LAN settings on the TCP/IP Ethernet device you are using on the PC are set
correctly:
• If not using a DHCP server, the IP address of the PC should be set manually to an unused
IP address (e.g. 192.168.0.10).
• The default IP Subnet mask is set to 255.255.255.0.
• Check firewall settings on the PC, unblock all ports.
• Verify that the proper Host Network Interface Card Name is selected in ControlSpace
Designer Hardware Manager.
• Verify that there is not another device connected to the network with the same IP address.
• Refer to ControlSpace Designer Help for detailed steps to ensure the EX-1280C is on the
same network as the PC running ControlSpace Designer.
• Most often the result of a design file/firmware mismatch.
• If necessary, retrieve saved design from the EX-1280C, then send a blank design to the EX1280C. The LED should change to white.
• Re-send the previous design after it has upgraded by importing the design into the latest
version of CSD.
• Ensure the EX-1280C is connected to the network using the RJ-45 jack labeled
ControlSpace.
• Check that the network activity LED built into the ControlSpace RJ-45 jack is illuminated or
blinking to confirm an active network connection.
• The EX-1280C will default to these ranges if set to DHCP while no DHCP server is present
on the network. Add a DHCP server to the network or change EX-1280C to a static IP
address.

• Ensure the EX-1280C’s Dante IP address is on the same network as the EX-1280C’s
ControlSpace control IP address. This can be checked on the EX-1280C Config > Dante Info
front panel menu (see page 25 for more information). To change the EX-1280C Dante IP,
use Audinate’s Dante Controller software. Sometimes it can be helpful to change the PC’s
network settings from static IP to DHCP to view and change the Dante IP address.

For United States Users
This equipment complies with Part 68 of the FCC rules and the requirements adopted by the ACTA. On the
bottom side of this equipment is a label that contains, among other information, a product identifier in the format
US:JUBBR01AEX-1280C. If requested, this number must be provided to the telephone company. The information
associated with the services the equipment is to be connected are REN: 0.1A, Jack type: RJ-11C.
The REN is useful to determine the number of devices that you may connect to your telephone line and still have
all of those devices ring when your telephone number is called. In most, but not all areas, the sum of RENs of all
devices connected to one line should not exceed five (5.0). To be certain of the number of devices that you may
connect to your line line, you may want to contact your local telephone company to determine the maximum
REN for your calling area. For products approved after July 23, 2001, the REN for this product is part of the
product identifier that has the format US:JUBBR01AEX-1280C. The digits represented by 01A are the REN without
a decimal point (e.g., 01A is a REN of 0.1A). For earlier products, the REN is separately shown on the label.
A plug and jack used to connect this equipment to the premises wiring and telephone network must comply
with the applicable FCC Part 68 rules and requirements adopted by the ACTA. A compliant telephone cord and
modular plug is provided with this product. It is designed to be connected to a compatible modular jack that is
also compliant. See installation instructions for details.

is subject to state taris.
Should this equipment cause harm to the telephone network, the telephone company may discontinue your
service temporarily. If possible they will notify you in advance that temporary discontinuance of service may be
required. But if advance notice isn’t practical, the telephone company will notify you as soon as possible. You
will be informed of your right to file a complaint with the FCC. The telephone company may make changes in its
facilities, equipment, operations or procedures that could aect the proper functioning of your equipment. If they
do, you will be notified in advance to give you an opportunity to maintain uninterrupted telephone service.
This product is not intended to be repaired. If you experience trouble with this equipment, please contact:
Name: Bose Corporation
The telephone company may ask that you disconnect this equipment from the network until the problem has
been corrected or until you are sure that the equipment is not malfunctioning.

the AC outlet to which this equipment is connected. Telephone companies report that electrical surges, typically
lighning transients, are very destructive to customer terminal equipment connected to AC power sources and
that this is a major nationwide problem.
If your home has specially wired alarm equipment connected to the telephone line, ensure the installation of this
equipment Model EX-1280C does not disable your alarm equipment. If you have questions about what will disable
alarm equipment, consult your telephone company or a qualified installer.
