4 Installing the mounting rails

Prerequisites:
The mounting rails are designed to fit into a standard 48.3-cm (19-in.) wide cabinet. – There must be a minimum depth of 76 cm (30 in.) between the front adjustable rail and
the rear adjustable rail.
Each tray requires two standard mounting rack units (2U) of vertical space in the cabinet.
Figure4.1: Mounting rails
1 Cabinet mounting holes 3 Mounting rail
2 Adjustment screws for locking the
length of the mounting rails
4 Clip for securing the rear of the
controller-drive tray
To install the mounting rails:
1. Position the mounting rails in the cabinet. – If you are installing the mounting rails above an existing tray, position the mounting
rails directly above the tray.
If you are installing the mounting rails below an existing tray, allow 8.9-cm (3.5-in.)
vertical clearance for the controller-drive tray.
2. Starting with the left mounting rail, use a flat-blade screwdriver to loosen the two flathead rail adjustment screws. Hold the front of the left mounting rail against the inside of the front cabinet-mounting flange, and then extend the rear of the mounting rail until it makes contact with the rear cabinet-mounting flange. The alignment pins at the rear of the mounting rail should slide into the holes at the rear of the cabinet.
3. From the front of the cabinet, with the mounting-rail flanges inside of the cabinet’s mounting rail assemblies, use the Phillips screwdriver to loosely tighten only the lower screw.
4. From the rear of the cabinet, use the Phillips screwdriver to loosely tighten the two screws. Do not completely tighten the screws until you have installed the controller-drive tray in the cabinet.
5. Repeat step 1 through step 4 for the right mounting rail.
6. Tighten the flat-head rail adjustment screws on both mounting rails.

5 Installing the controller-drive tray

Warning!
Risk of bodily injury
Two persons are required to safely lift the component.
Notice!
When installing tray hardware, load the cabinet so as not to make it top-heavy. One approach is to place the controller-drive tray in the middle portion of the cabinet while allowing room for expansion drive trays to be placed above and below the controller-drive tray.
To install the controller:
1. With the help of one other person, remove the controller-drive tray from the shipping box.
2. Using two people, lift and rest the tray on the bottom ledge of the left and right rails. Note: Each tray is installed in an empty 2U slot in the cabinet.
3. Carefully slide the tray into the cabinet until the front mounting flanges are flushed with the vertical face of the cabinet and the rear edges of the tray fit into the clips on the support rails.
4. Secure the front of the tray by inserting a screw through the center hole in each front mounting flange.
5. Secure the rear of the tray by inserting a screw through the hole in each rear mounting flange and into each support rail.
6. Verify that the controller power switches and cabinet circuit breakers are turned off. Then, connect each tray power supply to separate cabinet power sources.
7. Install the end caps that cover the mounting flanges on the front of the storage array tray: – Place the end cap over the tab so the tab can go into the slot. – Snap the bottom of the end cap into place.
