BRAKELOCK II

is a mechanically energized pneumatic device that stores air pressure from the
coach’s brake system and releases it to the air cylinder in the towed vehicle when a break-away occurs.
Installation
1. Mount the break-away switch to a central location on the towed vehicle’s metal frame structure
(do not install to the baseplate or any additionally installed item), using a 1/4” bolt and jam
nut (not included). Make sure it is in the center of the towed vehicle. Also, the break-away
switch should be able to pivot from side to side.
2. Mount the solenoid assembly and reservoir assembly in a convenient location under the hood
of the towed vehicle within a foot of each other with the wire ties provided.
3. With the two assemblies mounted, cut the 1/4” tubing to the appropriate lengths, depending on
the distance between them. Cut the 1/4” tubing coming from the coach. Push the end coming
from the coach into #3 port of the solenoid valve. Push the other end, which is coming from
the brake cylinder, into #2 port of the solenoid valve. Look at Figure 1 for a detailed schematic. Cut two pieces of tubing from the tubing supplied. Install one from port #1 to the elbow
tting of the reservoir. Then install the other piece between the T- tting of the solenoid valve
to the check valve of the reservoir. Make sure the hoses are bottomed into the ttings.
4. Connect one wire of the solenoid valve to one wire of the break-away switch, (it doesn’t matter which one). Then connect the other wire of the solenoid valve to 12 volt DC of the towed
vehicle. Connect the other wire of the break-away switch to ground of the towed vehicle.
Look at Figure 1 for a detailed schematic.
5. Connect the towed vehicle to the coach in the normal way. Run the lanyard from the breakaway switch attached to the front of the towed vehicle and attach it to the receiver hitch on
the rear of the coach near the center. Adjust the length of the lanyard about 4 inches shorter
than the safety cables stretched out. Loosen the adjustable clip, and adjust to this length. Cut
off the excess cable. Hook the lanyard to the coach. Your BrakeLock II is now ready for use.
NOTE: If a break-away occurs the towed vehicle will remain on the safety cables.
