Taking care of your camera
• The camera operating temperature is between 0 and 40 degrees Celsius. It is normal for the operating time to be shortened when the temperature is low.
• Do not use or store your camera in the environments listed below:
• Direct sunlight
• Highly humid or dusty places
• Next to an air conditioner, electric heater or other heat sources
• In a closed car that is in direct sunlight
•Unstable locations
• If your camera becomes wet, wipe it with a dry cloth as soon as possible.
• Salt or seawater may cause severe camera damage.
• Do not use solvents, such as alcohol, to clean your camera.
• If the lens is dirty, use a lens brush or soft cloth to clean the lens. Do not touch the lens with your fingers.
• To prevent electric shock, do not attempt to disassemble or repair your camera by yourself.
• Water may cause a fire or electric shock. Therefore, store your camera in a dry place.
• Do not use your camera outdoors when it is raining or snowing.
• Do not use your camera in or near water.
• If a foreign substance or water gets in your camera, please turn the power off immediately and disconnect the battery. Next, remove the foreign substance or water, and send it to the maintenance center.
• Transfer the data to the computer as soon as possible to avoid losing your images or video clips.
• If the lens cannot retract into the camera, please replace the battery first (usually this is because of a drained battery). Then the lens should retract automatically. If the lens still cannot retract, please contact your dealer.
• Under no circumstances should you push the lens back manually as this may damage the camera.

• It is normal for the camera to become warm during operation, because metal camera casing can conduct heat.
• The LCD display on this camera is manufactured with sophisticated technology, and more than 99.99% of the pixels on the LCD display meet standard specifications. Yet, it is possible that less than 0.01% of the pixels on the LCD display may have some light spots or show unusual colors. This is normal and does not indicate display malfunction, nor will this affect the pictures you take with the camera.

Preparing the camera for use

Use only the specified battery for the camera, and always turn off the camera before removing the battery.

To install the battery:
1. Open the battery/SD card cover (A).
2. Insert the battery in the correct direction (B).
3. Push the battery all the way down, until the battery lock lever clicks into place (C).
4. Close the battery/SD card cover (D).

To remove the battery:
1. Open the battery/SD card cover.
2. Release the battery lock lever.
3. When the battery has come out a little, gently pull it out the rest of the way.
4. Close the battery/SD card cover.

Charging the battery

The battery charge status affects the camera performance. To maximize the performance and the battery life, fully charge the battery using the specified charger and adapter, and then fully discharge it through normal use at least once.
To charge the battery:
1. Insert the battery into the charger.
2. Connect one end of the adapter to the charger.
3. Connect the other end of the adapter to a wall outlet.
4. When the battery is being charged, the charger LED indicator lights up in red. When the battery is fully charged, it turns into green.

• Damage caused by the use of an incorrect charger set is not covered under the

warranty.
• The battery may be warm after being charged or used. This is normal and not a malfunction.
• When using the camera in a cold environment, keep the camera and its battery warm by holding it inside your jacket or another warm protective environment.
• Remove the battery from the camera if you do not intend to use the camera for a long time.

Using touch screen and buttons

You can use the stylus or your finger (may leave fingerprints on the screen) to select options available from the touch screen. Some operations must work with buttons (such as
DISPLAY and Play ). This user manual uses “tap”, “circle”, or “swipe” when referring to touch screen actions and “press” when referring to button actions.

Using an SD card

The camera comes with internal memory for storing captured images, video clips, or audio files. You can also use an SD (Secure Digital) card to store more files.
To install an SD card:
1. Make sure the camera is turned off.
2. Open the battery/SD card cover.
3. Insert an SD card in the correct direction.
4. Close the battery/SD card cover.
To remove an SD card:
1. Make sure the camera is turned off.
2. Open the battery/SD card cover.
3. Lightly press the edge of the SD card to eject.
4. Close the battery/SD card cover.
• Before initial use of an SD card, tap > > > Manage Memory > Format to format the card first. Remember to slide the write-protect tab (on the side of the SD
card) to the unlock position. Otherwise, all data (if any) on the SD card is protected and the card cannot be formatted.

Setting language

This is to select the language version to show on the screen.
To select a language:
Tap > > > Language, and tap a language (tap / to find more
languages as needed).

Setting date and time

You need to set the date and time the first time you use the camera, or when the camera battery has been removed for a long time.
To set date and time:
1. Tap > > > Date Format, and tap the screen to select preferred formats.
2. Tap Date/Time, and then tap / to select the correct date and time.
3. Tap .
4. Tap to exit.

Operating the camera

The procedure below is a general guideline for basic operation. It is particularly useful if you are new to the camera.
1. Press .
2. Tap for desired options; tap for more options.
3. Follow the on-screen display (and instructions wherever available) and tap the corresponding icon to access and set more options. At any time, you can cancel the current
operation by tapping to return to your previous step.
4. Press T to zoom-in or W to zoom-out.
5. Press the shutter halfway to set automatic focus and exposure.
6. Press the shutter down fully to capture.
7. Release the shutter.
8. In the Movie Record mode, press the shutter to stop video recording.
• If you press the shutter halfway to set automatic focus, the camera is ready to capture when the auto focus frame is yellow. If there is no auto focus frame or the frame is red and you press the shutter down, it might result in blurred photos.
• During zoom-in/out, there is a separator in the zoom bar between W and T. For best image quality, it is recommended to use optical zoom only by keeping the magnification within W and the separator.
• Flash is automatically turned off in the Movie Record mode.
• The Movie Record mode records both sound and video. Yet, sound is not recorded during zoom-in/out.
• At any time, you can press to turn off the camera.
• In the capture or playback mode, press repeatedly to show different information on the screen.

6 Viewing captured images and videos

Viewing captured images and videos

To enter the playback mode, press to view the image or video just captured.

• To view the previous image/video, swipe and slide the screen (at least 1/3 of the width; see the illustrations below from A to C) to the right, or tap on the Control Panel.
• To view the next image/video, swipe and slide the screen (at least 1/3 of the width) to the left, or tap on the Control Panel.
• Press W and you can still use the Swipe-to-Slide feature to view captured images and recorded videos in a loop.
• Press W again to view 12 thumbnails on the screen.

• You can toggle between the above two playback modes by pressing T and W.
• To zoom-in/out an image, press T or W, or you can use the stylus or your fingertip to circle the area you want to zoom in directly on the screen. You can also drag the image to see a certain area or tap to crop the image.
• If a photo was captured in the portrait orientation and then you saved it into the landscape orientation, the photo will still rotate back into the portrait orientation temporarily when you enlarge it on your camera.
• For a video file, tap to start playback.
• Tap to start the slideshow playback.
• Tap for more options.
• Anytime in the playback mode, you can press or the shutter to switch to the capture mode.
• For image/audio/video files captured by other devices, your camera may not be able to show the detailed file information (such as resolution) or to edit them (using My Drawings or Add Memo, for example).
